Nate Ament will visit Arkansas

I would be shocked if he goes there. Still think Louisville and Duke are way out in front, UK a distant third.

Why anyone would want to play for UofL's cringe inducing coach I'll never understand. Dood is beyond a dweeb.
I am just preparing myself for disappointment. Lots of connections with Louisville, even more so than Duke. Either one would suck.

With 3 freshmen already on board, I'd rather Cal suffer Freshman follies with Ament and us stretch our funds to add players in the mold of FSU 4/5 Malique Ewin (if he enters the portal) and UAB 4 Yaxel Lendenborg (if he gets that year of eligibility and hops into the portal).

If Ament wants to be a Cat, so be it. I'd welcome him. I just prefer we not get strung along and into a bidding war over a kid who wants to be 1 and done, but who you would hope would be a backup as a freshman.

I guess if CCC offers 5 million and guaranteed playing time for as long as he stays, no matter how badly he plays, well ....

Otherwise, all this looks like it's window dressing to drive bids up. If he's smart, he will play at Kentucky in Coach Pope's system and not let his talent get wasted with CCC and the Hogs.

I like the 3 freshman we have signed. Go get some good portal guys and it’s a better balance. Hard pass for the money this kid wants.
I see a big opportunity here. Raise it to $4M for the kid. Arkansas will be so desperate to beat our offer they may offer $5M. Then drop out and send Calipari laugh emojis lol

Honestly, I just don’t care what any of these guys do anymore. We will have the team we will have. No interest in the drama of children.

I heard UK offered around $3 million.

If that's true, let Arkansas have him. I think anything higher than $1.5 million for this kid is too much.

For $3 million, we can add 6 or 7 Lamont Butler-level players.
I don’t disagree, but I’m going be very curious what portal players will ask for this off-season. I’d imagine those prices will be much higher than last go-around.

They might ask for more, but I also think it's entirely possible, if not probable, that the majority of NIL donors will start to scale back from the sheer lack of economic reciprocity in their investment.

Think about it. Let's say a program like Baylor loses in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. VJ Edgecombe walks away with $1 million in the bank from NIL. What has Edgecombe netted the NIL donating brass? What did they get from their investment? They didn't win anything of significance. So do those same NIL donors run it back because they paid $1 million dollars for two dozen cool slam dunks during a season where Baylor did squat in the NCAA tourney?

I imagine that those will be the types of thoughts that will plague many NIL donors across the country, particularly in respect to those programs that didn't win much of anything this year.

The dude is not worth 1/4th of what he’s asking for! This current or the next recruiting cycle will be the last time these freshmen will get away with asking for the current amounts they are hoping to get!

That’s why there’s a mad dash to cash before the cat is out of the bag on these prospects!

I think we’re in agreement on it, but on the flip side Ohio State spent a boatload of NIL and walked away with a football title. I think those donors will very much run it back.

It’s not a sustainable model, but I think we got a few more years of it before any type of real change. We had an extreme shift from schools holding the power to players holding the power. Neither is good long term.

3 mill for a guy that hasn't shot one single college hoop?
I HOPE we drop out. That's really...wacky.
Does anyone really know what offers are on the table? I think not. And to say we can get “three portal players for the same price” is only an uninformed guess.
And Ament is projected #4 in next year’s draft. Of course you grab that talent if you can.
