Nate Ament latest news "rumors are swirling he will be in lexington tuesday night for the Tennessee game " last visit

Based upon the fact he is a high school kid and is an unknown at this point I say spend $500,000 on Max Green and start there first. Get Max and then see if Nate wants to join for 1 Million to 1.5 Million but dont drop a bag as some have suggested and put all your NIL in on one unproven player. We still have to put together a whole team who will also need to be paid.

They should pay Green $1M and Ament $4M, then pay a Portal PF $2M and a portal PG $2M. That is as realistic as the numbers you are throwing around.

Agreed.

Who does Green play for? Why would we pay him $500k-$1m? Let’s slow down please. Just because he is from Ky doesn’ mean he is worth that. I doubt the 2 current Ky kids will get anywhere near that and they are proving they can play at this level right now. With a 15 man roster, there will probably be room for him. But that doesn’t mean we throw tons of cash at him when we have way more pressing needs.

Wish Pope would have offered Green. A big guard that is said to have a very high basketball IQ and can play the one, two and three. He hit 23-31 shots against the Indiana all stars. Another high level fundamentally skilled player that is also a team player. Dribbling, shooting, handle and passing, he would be excellent in Pope's system. Grandfather played football at UK.
I have watched max several times this year for holy cross . Real good player and is up for freshman of the year in the patiot league . Very team oriented plays all phases of the game well I think he needs to shoot more . Great addition if he decides to enter the portal

Has he gained some muscle? When I saw some of his HS vids, his strength and defense, especially against college level players, were his weakness.

Would green cost that much? I don’t think he would even cost that much.

I'm supportive of whatever Pope does regarding building teams. He's clearly not going to sell out college basketball or UK just to get a top recruiting class ranking, and he wants kids that aren't going to have one foot out the door.
He’s recruiting these one and dones pretty hard. So he clearly wants them. Look, if we aren’t willing to pay a couple milly then I know that Duke and UL are. It’s an arms race. Don’t get stuck in the past

May not. But I would a lot rather we pay him what he is worth over a high school kid who supposedly is asking anywhere from 2 million to 5 million depending upon who you listen too. There is nothing to indicate with Ament that he would be anymore effective at the college level than a Green would. Nothing. Some people just get caught up in star rankings and Pope proving he can recruit with the big dawgs.

I’ll take a Kentucky boy that has averaged double digits at the D1 level (even low major). He will at the very least be a nice rotation player for us. Someone mentioned him being a perfect replacement for Almonor. I tend to agree. He’s 6’7 and probably 200 right now. A little more college level weight training this offseason and he could be pushing a respectable 210. And he has three more years of eligibility after this year. What’s not to like about this kid?

If he is a 6’7” guard, we want him to be strong, but also quick and fast. 200 might not be too bad, as long as it is lean muscle and he plays with a low center of gravity when penetrating and cutting. Michael Jordan weighed just under 200lbs when he was drafted.

I feel like he would have if he had more time. Taking the Job and putting a team together in a few weeks was wild.

Good thing is with the portal now you can farm guys out if you don't have a ton of room, and then get them back with a better idea of if they have what it takes a level up a year or two later.

Guaranteed 3 years ago you would’ve been on here whining and complaining and telling other posters how clueless they are because they wanted to pay more for Antonio Reeves or Sheppard over super freshman Wagner, Bradshaw, or the absolute jewel of the class Edwards. How many shitty highly ranked freshmen do we have to have seen before fans are allowed to say they’d prefer a good portal player like LaMont Butler or Oweh for half the price and 1/10 the drama?
It’s definitely a risk, basically I think the higher regarded classes will probably be safer on top 10 guys. You just don’t know but we should strive to get the best freshman talent year in and out. I bet Edwards would have looked a lot better under Pope. Perfect type player Cal never could extract good play from but he was definitely over rated. We have to have great talent evaluators too.

The problem here, no matter how good he is, you really can't justify giving him 4 or 5 mil. For a guy like Cooper Flagg or John Wall or a Kevin Durant, sure. But 4 mil for a one year rental mesns you're almost for sure not getting back that ROI. And there's only so much money to go around.

Ill trust the staff on this one.
He'll for sure have one foot out the door the entire time, and will be worried about getting hurt.

Edwards has been better than a lot of first rounders this year in Philadelphia.

I’ve watched 3 of his games now since Kentucky has ramped up the interest. Very good offensive player, can score at all 3 levels. He is rail thin though, and will have to add on weight for sure
And he absolutely will not add weight for his first year. That's a problem with freshmen.

So are we back to one and done “must haves”??? The last i read, we were done with that and would rather “lose with upperclassman”.

Please advise.
I have little to no preferences on how to lose, losing is bad, m'kay.

I don't care how we win much either, winning cures everything.

NIL doesn’t work at all like it’s described here.

But no reason to revisit that.

If the guy, any guy, wants to play here and the coaching staff wants him then the money will never be an issue.

If the guy, any guy, doesn’t really want to be here but would play here because it’s best financially then any amount is too much.

So now you are comparing him to Jordan.

Just kidding, I had to do it. Don't shoot me. 😀
