He extended the date out further than the 2-3 weeks that was originally reported last week.

Makes sense, he should know by April if Isaiah Evans is going pro or not.

I think it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I just feel it won’t be UK because I can’t see UK ever paying out that kind of money for just one player. I wish they would try to get one of these high profile recruits from out of state though to blend in with older players

If the prices for these top10 guys really is upwards of 3mil.. it just doesn't make sense. They're being overvalued in this early wild-wild-west era of NIL. And I think teams will realize that the hard way. It's not going to sit well with Duke boosters if they paid $4mil for a freshman who just left for the NBA after putting up 8pts and 4 rebounds a night on the way to a loss in the Sweet16..

And it's further not going to sit well when you know that you could find a transfer portal who gives you more productivity for 1/4th the cost.

I agree with that generally except the very top of the top. The Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson types are game changers. There is nothing in the portal to match those.

Louisville isn't going to be irrelevant for too much longer. Kelsey is doing a good job there as much as I hate to say it.
Funny we know Kelsey is going a good job more so than it seems their own students do. Having to walk campus and beg students to show up for games is embarrassing. Kelsey deserves better support tbh!

Louisville, as a program, has two national titles and a third if you count squirt-gate. I don’t care how good Kelsey is unless he wins about 4 titles with them.

I'd be fine giving those three $5mil.. but that's about the only 3 guys over the last 15 years who are true sure-fire talents, ones that you can't miss on. I'm sure there's some others who you could put one tier below them.. but it quickly goes from that tier, down to a level of HS recruit that you just don't know what you're going to get from their freshman year. And I think someone like Nate Ament falls into that range. Who knows how well he's going to do in just his one year.. but one things is for certain, it's going to cost you $3mil minimum to find out.

And of course, this money you cite is completely made up too, as well as a portal player being 1/4 the price.

The numbers aren't accurate. Everyone involved has an incentive to lie upwards.

I mean, we've heard from pretty reputable sources on what some of these kids cost. It's estimated that AJ Dybantsa was asking for $5 million, reported by Matt Norlander. And I think BYU got him close to $8mil. Im not sure what of that isn't accurate.

Sue, but you can get elite players in the portal. Not generational. But elite. Tyler Kolek, Mark Sears, Johni Broome.

You look at the top teams right now.
Auburn: Broome and Chad Baker Mazara transferred from non Power programs.
Alabama: Sears and Nelson transferred from smaller schools
Duke: best players are freshmen
Houston: LJ Cryer transferred from Baylor
UT: Lanier transferred from UNF, Milicic played for UVA and then Charolette, Gainey was at South Carolina Upsate
Florida: Clayton was at Iona.

The generational guys are few and far between. You can still get All-American level guys in the portal.

Recruiting under Pope is one of the main questions I have going forward. Schools are hiring GM’s to take some of the load of of the coaches, I wish UK would do the same.

I’m still hoping Cal flames out at Arkansas and wants to retire. He could be a big benefit to Popr as a recruiting coordinator in the future

We need an all-American level player to make deep run in march

This year we have a ton of A-B level players, but no S level (likes of Flagg, Clayton, Sears, Broome...)

When we are healthy as a team we can beat anyone, but we are inconsistent with our injuries, we lack S level players who can get things done in hard situations.

lol . As long as Barnhart is here Cal won’t be anywhere near our program. And thank god for that . I don’t want him around it either.
And that’s fair too. I just want UK to be the best in every area, no matter who or what is involved

Is Ament more of an impact player than say a Jasper Johnson? Not sure what kind of NIL deal we worked out with him, but from an incoming freshman perspective I could see players of similar impact getting far different deals being something of an issue. not sure why all of these recruits don't just wait until the last minute of the latest signing date to make their decisions and go to the highest bidder. If Jasper Johnson had drug out his recruitment like this could he be sitting on a bigger warchest of offers right now?

It's a mess for sure. And you're right, maybe it would have went that way. Which is why I've really changed my stance on wanting too freshman. At this point, they're just asking for too big of a pay day. Too risky, for just one year of basketball.
