NASCAR thread

If Logano ends up winning the championship after being out of the top 8 and only getting in by Bowman being DQ'ed he is the luckiest man alive.

I mean, he officially finished 8th in the standings once they DQ’d Bowman for cheating. He was never really in 9th because Bowman didn’t technically even show up for that race, in retrospect at least.

He still had to go out and have a perfect run on mileage to punch his ticket. 8 other teams could have done the same but the 22 just outsmarted them all.

ETA - I’m a Logano fan but have nothing against Hendrick guys (except Byron - he can DIAF for all I care.)

I heard on one of the podcast I listen to that Joey has won 3 races this year and the most laps he has led in the 3 was 10 laps. Maybe he has taken over Kevin Harvick's The Closer nickname.

I won't sit here and claim to be the biggest fan of Kyle Busch, Logano, Keselowski and Denny Hamlin, but I find NASCAR more fun when there are polarizing figures like them in the sport. Too many drivers have vanilla personalities.

Sounds like both manufacturers tried to throw the finish.

In any case, like Funky said, Bell pretty clearly rode the wall. Byron should be in.

The Reddit idiots are screaming because 3 and 1 didn’t pass Byron. Way different than 23 backing all the way up over 2 laps then Bell riding the wall.

Sucks it’s this way but absolutely the correct call

Byron kept racing and did nothing wrong.

Bell kept racing and rode the wall.

The 23, 3, and 1 drivers and chiefs should be penalized.

No Larson and no Elliott in the final four….

The hit wasn't that hard to the wall on Bell, therefore no reason for him to overdrive after barely getting loose. No flat tire for Bell or any excuse that would have prevented him from being able to steer off the wall. You can definitely see Bell not letting off the throttle all the way through the corner. He pushed the boundaries and found out how serious NASCAR takes the rule after the Hail Melon move by Chastain.

While waiting for the decision on Byron and Bell (which was a tough call), my wife asked me how it would go, I replied whoever has the most yank. It is nascar we're talking about afterall, now we know which owner is tighter.

The 1 & 3 were clearly not going to pass the 24 and created a rolling road block to ensure that. Went on for the last 40 laps of the race.

I would like to see when the 23 started backing up. If I’m JGR and I see what is going on with the 24 then hell yes I’m going to play the game too.

I don’t think for one second that what the 20 did is remotely comparable to what the 1 did last year. Looking at the incident at face value, he over drives the entry and gets loose, chasing the car up into the wall. And coming to the checkered, of course he is going to gas it up.

With all that said, I think the 1, 3, and 23 should be parked next race. Also the 20 & 24 should be disqualified and the final race should be a 3 car championship.

If NASCAR is going to keep this shitty ass format that encourages this type of shit, then they need to drop the hammer so hard that teams would rather face backlash from the manufacturers that are giving these orders. A monetary fine is not going to be enough.

NASCAR wanted drama and excitement with this format and then complain when they get it like with stuff like the Hail Melon, Hail Melon 2.0 and manufacturers calling out team orders. I know it was a split second decision but all Bell had to do was back out of the throttle, steer off the wall and get going again and all is well. It was obvious that Bubba was letting Bell pass and nobody else was around to pass him so he would have tied and been in.

I would not park Chastain, Dillon and Bubba for following team orders. There are no incentives for the individual drivers out of the playoffs. This is clearly coming from the manufactuers and owners who are benefiting unlike those 3 individually. The bigger message you can send would be punishing the owners/manufacturers. If you are going to park anyone, the ones who benefited (Byron/Bell) should be subject to being parked if that is how you go about punishing teams such as Truex getting booted from the Chase during the MWR shit in 2013. Parking a team with nothing to race for isn't going to accomplish anything. Bell knew what he did, the look was all over his face and why the team looked so subdued after the race knowing all along they could subject to this Hail Melon ruling. He did not hit the wall hard enough that would have prevented him from correcting his steering, back off the wall and chose to keep riding the wall. Like it or not, this is the rule. Someone tested how far they could go and found out NASCAR isn't going to tolerate it. Like funKYcat said, can't blame him for going all in but don't be surprised when NASCAR rules against you when breaking their rules.
