Mychal Mulder needs some minutes

Maybe Cal just needs to get one of those crowd polling devices. Take a vote every 2 minutes on who to play.

Naw, that's a really dumb idea.

I think we can all agree that Mulder is better than some high school kid in the mountains? He is 6"4 he's a decent athlete, he looks the part, he can shoot the ball fairly well, he has an aesthetically pleasing shooting motion, I just wanna see him get a little time with the starters... If he is that bad on defense, it will show and then he can get taken back out...
The coaches don't feel like they have to prove to you Mulder shouldn't play. They already know, and that's all that matters.

He doesn't shoot well enought o make up for his complete ineptitude on defense

Why are people so hard on new guys this early? He's 8 games in to his first season in D-1 and he hasn't played in many of those games. Skal is just as lost on defense, but is better so he still gets to play. If we can just accept that he isn't some great player that somehow fell thru the cracks and went JUCO, we'll have a better perspective on him. He's having normal transitional difficulties.

This team has to find some more 3 point shooting... It's not coming from Matthews or Briscoe, and right not Murray and Ulis are not hitting either.

Now you can say Mulder is a defensive liability all you want too, but we haven't seen a large enough sample size to know if that's true yet, and frankly most of our guys are liabilities right now besides Ulis, Briscoe and possibly Matthews...

Here is a guy that shot 45% from 3 last season and he's getting no love from the staff... I trust Cal and I'm not trying to say I know better, but logic would dictate to at least give the guy a chance?
Because you haven't seen him play much doesn't mean he needs more time. If Mulder was the answer, then he would be on the floor. Coach Cal plays whom ever gives the team the best chance to win the game.

Before the season started, I said that I didn't trust a JUCO, especially in his first year of D-1.

It's a tough adjustment. For whatever reason, it usually takes them more time than Freshmen to acclimate.

Many on here, though, kept hyping him up all summer. So much so that I started to believe that Mulder might contribute. I drank the kool-aid (just a sip, though- in the back of my mind I remained skeptical).

It seems pretty obvious at this moment that my initial thoughts on Mulder (and JUCO's in general) were correct.

So, I will go back to my original stance: never trust a JUCO, especially in their first year of D-1 play.

Practice players arent going to get it done against NBA caliber players. Brian Long isnt going to do anything against Devin Booker

Terrible statement. You don't think Hawkins and Willis has made our team better the last 2 years by pushing them in practice? You don't think Marcus Lee pushed WCS and Randle a couple of years ago?

Hell, Ryan Harrow sucked in games but Cal has talked at length about how much better Marques Teague got in 2012 by going against Harrow every day, we might not win the title without Teague's late season improvement that year.

Just because a guy doesn't play, does not mean he "isn't going to do anything against so-and-so NBA Player"

I have a feeling he'll get some minutes today. Wait and see. I could be wrong but usually I can predict the future.

I think you took his point wrong. Ulis was saying Cal should use walkons for practice players insinuating Mulder should have never come. catsareback stated we need quality players on the bench and in practice to make our rotations players better.

At least that is how I took it.

Usually - Cal has said that he played the twins down the stretch against Wisky in last years FF out of loyalty. Might have cost us NC #9! Just saying!!!

I think Mulder gets more minutes later in the season. Right now the core players are learning to gel and find their rhythm playing @ this level (so is Mulder). But as the season progresses he will see more minutes as Cal looks for offense schemes to put him in.

You didn't understand what he said. He was implying to leave the Willis' and Hawkins' of the world off the team because they won't play significant mins and fill the rest of the spots with walkons. I'm in agreement with you.

Didn't I tell y'all he'd get some minutes today? Now I want to see him jack up a bunch of 3's in the 2nd half. That's what we need from Mulder. Around 15mins per game and shoot over 40% from 3.

Mulder played well, didn't really give up anything on offense, got an offensive board, was responsible for another, caused a steal and had a nice dish to Lee on the break! If only he would have drained that 3! Oh well, can't hit them all

Ah! My mistake then. I figured by "practice players", that meant just anyone who doesn't really get time during the game.

That's what I get for making assumptions I suppose

Yeah, he should have benched the twins for two freshmen who could not guard a shadow against Wisky, the best offensive team of all time according to Kenpom. He also should have benched the two guys most responsible for bringing UK back from a 9 point deficit and then leading them to a 4 point lead....again, yeah right. Everytime I see this I am just going to roll my eyes when people act like Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker would have magically stopped sucking on D (and neither did much on offense either) and beat mighty Wisconsin. Just another Rafter's myth that will grow as the years pass. I'll give the best case for those two in the game, we score 70+ but Wisconsin gets to 80. We still lose.
