My vote is for Travis Perry

Ya, he is not ready. But if we are being honest this season is gonna most likely be a punt, why not get him the most experience we can and let him take the point 30 plus mins. If something clicks and he becomes a mini Travis Ford or a version of him then we steal a win or 2 and make some noise.

Doing whatever it takes to win aka - starting Robinson at point but still taking a L feels like a wasted opportunity to grow other people.

Ok this is probably not happening, but realistically is this not an option we could consider?
Sorry but you lost me at "this season is gonna most likely be a punt". Last I looked we are still ranked in the top 15 in the country and there is still a month before tournament season kicks off so we still have a chance. Nobody expected UConn to win the title 2 years ago when they were 17-6 on Feb 1st. Nobody expected UNC to be in the championship game 3 years ago when they were 16-7 on Feb 1st. Nobody expected UK to be in the title game in 2014 when they were 16-5 on Feb 1st and went on to lose 4 more games in the regular season. There are still a lot of games to be played so let's play them out before we "punt".

Pope gets the choice. He’s the coach so there isnt a vote, but if there was a vote I’d still go with Chandler. He at least has the athleticism to potentially guard PGs.

But I wonder why people are saying the season is a wash…Didn’t we beat Gonzaga and Tennessee in hostile environments without Butler? Or does only the Arkansas game matter?
Agree . Chandler does better than most of our team on defense . If he ever gets over nervousness and starts to hit offensely we will have something . That’s why coach is playing him. He takes up lots of space and usually stays in front of his man.

Anyone saying he's trash is a moron. Dude has insane lateral quickness. That can't be taught. That's all genetic. And that means he can be a good defender. The dude can be All-SEC defense. He just needs time. He's your average freshman. But fans are used to Cal's system of one year or bust. He came up big against UT. Deflections, a steal.

And TBH, I could say the same for most of Cal's players from 2020-2024. But I knew they only had one year. So it was fair to call those guys busts. Because they were out after 1 year, no matter what. Chandler has time to improve on offense. And build on his solid defense.

He needs to put in the work during the offseason. His current limitations should be apparent to him in a way they probably weren’t before the season began. He will know what he needs to work on.
The problem is Perry's current limitations which are he is too short and too slow can't be improved in the off season.

Assuming Butler & Kerr stay out for awhile, but that Carr is fully ready to go, I would expect to see something like this:
5- Williams 25, Garrison 15
4- Carr 30, Almonor 10
3- Brea 30, Noah 5, Almonor 5
2- Oweh 35, Chandler 5
1- Robinson 35, Perry 5

Doesn't mean there won't be games where one of the 3 FR is playing well and gets 10 or so.

You won’t be seeing anyone play 35mpg in this offense imo. Pope acknowledged our guys were absolutely fatigued at the end of the game versus Arkansas. We don’t have the athletes to exert as much energy as it takes to do what we have to do on both ends for 35 minutes. Setting yourself up for failure there

I’m not sure how much he should play, but I’d like to see him taking more shots. I can be wrong, of course, but I don’t see teammates returning the ball to him in wide-open, spot-up opportunities, especially in the corner. He’s playing PG by necessity, but he is primarily a shooter.

So you think it is a good idea to give Carr 30 minutes ? LOL, and Oweh 35 ? I see you have Almonor with only 15, Brea with 30. I can't take this post serious, makes no sense.

Almonor's last 4 games :

Arkansas - 25 minutes - 12 points - 4/6 FG / 3/5 3FG (60% 3FG) 1-1 2FG (100%) / 1/1 FT / 3 reb. / 2 assist / ZERO TO's
@ UT - 30 minutes - 12 points - 4/7 3FG (57%) - 2 reb. / 3 assist / 1 TO
@ Vandy - 24 minutes - 12 points / 4/5 3 FG (80%) / 4 rebounds / 1 TO
@ Bama - 19 minutes (LOL) - 10 points / 2/4 3 FG (50%) / 4/4 FT's (100 %) / 3 reb. / 1 TO.

4 game averages : 24.5 minutes - 11.5 PPG / 14/22 3FG (67%) / 1/1 2FG / 5/5 FT's / ONLY 2 TO's combined in 98 minutes played.

And you want to reduce his minutes ? Not to mention he is the most physical player we have available. You go ahead and give Brea 30 minutes and Oweh 35, you did not put much thought into this..

Depends on the quickness of the Ole Miss guards .. Haven't seen them so don't how he could handle it ,, plays decent defense only against average quickness as could be said about a few others.

The problem with Jax at the point is he gets worn out trying to set the offense .. at least he did against Hogs

It's a problem .. Hope to see Noah get some run tonight .. Chandler plays good D but is offensively challenged

Judging by the way other teams go immediately at Travis as soon as he enters the game, I don’t like this idea.

As of now, Perry is a capable shooter who is an extreme defensive liability on a bad defensive

The problem is Perry's current limitations which are he is too short and too slow can't be improved in the off season.
Obviously he isn't a big guard but I think he can improve his skills. Especially his quickness.
I'm sure Pope sees this weakness and it will be a focal point during the off season. That's just my opinion.

That's probably right! He's like Jon Hood in my mind. Everyone wanted to be as good in games and in practice but he just wasn't. I hope Perry can gain quickness in the offseason.
And also confidence to take more shots. He is a skilled shooter by all accounts.
Just help us by giving good minutes this year and he will be a valuable piece in years to come.

I remember people said Tyler Ulis was too short, and Reed Sheppard was too slow...
Any game now Travis is going to break out offensively. He has played nervous basketball and said as much. The nerves are gone and now he just needs to get stronger.
