My limit, when it comes to cheering for the SEC

I know it's in our best interests for the SEC to perform well. Up until this point, I've cheered for that to happen (not that my silent hopes make any difference).

But I also have to admit...now that South Carolina has made it this far, I would rather they NOT win the whole thing (unless it comes down to them and UNC-CHeat - the worst of the blue bloods).

I'd rather have Gonzaga or Oregon win. South Carolina just doesn't seem legitimate enough to me, for one thing, and it would be pretty annoying to go to Columbia and face...the defending champions? Weird. Florida is bad enough to deal with. Imagine a national champion version of the Gamecocks.

Does anyone else share this opinion? Being a deranged fan gets complicated. And tiring.

No but I like Frank Martin and the money that spreads to Kentucky through the sec.It isn't like South Carolina is going to catch up.They win it's finally a conference without just Kentucky and Florida.

I can totally see that point of view.

But...

Last year, not only was I happy that Villanova ended the potential UNC nightmare, but it was nice that they're not a team we have to deal with.

South Carolina has been annoying enough to deal with in Columbia some years, without a championship under their belt.

Clearly they're not a threat to our conference or national supremacy. But neither are Oregon or Gonzaga, so that's not really a consideration here.

Nope, dont want to see a west team win. Keep the 20 year drought going. That leaves only usc to root for.

I'll root for USC. I like Frank Martin.

Most of the SEC roots against us like crazy in basketball though.

But I think it's that way in all conferences. The rest of the big 12 roots against Kansas. ACC root against Duke and UNC.

I live in SC and I've caught a few of those thoughts slipping into my mind also. However, I will root for them because... 1)They're in the SEC...I know some SC fans that watched the UNC game and were rooting for us....most of them can't stand the Tar Heels as well. I want to see the SEC become a better, more respected league...that's good for UK ultimately....2) I like Frank Martin....think he's a terrific coach and a stand up guy....3) Most SC fans know they've caught lightning in a bottle this year..I think they're just as shocked as anyone they made it this far.

I was all in on SC until the SC fan came over here seconds after we lost and revelled in it. He was banned it was so bad. I hope Gonzaga beats them by 50.

You guys must not remember how mean, arrogant, and low-down many gamecock fans have been to BBN over the years. Football season is a great example of this along with some of our past basketball mid-season conference games. They're just about the most intolerable fan base out there. So, yeah, screw it all and I won't be rooting for them. LOL, SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC.....yeah right.

Yeah I dont get the taunting either way really. A little ribbing is fun now and then but why does it have to get insulting and escalate to something worse? Not tryna deny anyone's fun but don't insult players and their families. Do t insult people or where they live. It's a game. It's runs through me like fire when we lose and had acid in my mouth last Sunday. But my little boy and girls were watching my every move and repeating A LOT of what I was saying (had to go down to the basement a couple times lol). I work with fans from all over and when we Win I take it with class. Same as when we lose. I have no effect on the outcome of the game (even though I wear and drink every lucky piece of swag I have) so I can't take ownership either way. Therefore I'm not out to hurt anyone either way. It's meant to be fun for all. It hurts me when UK loses and I don't want to hurt someone else if their team loses. Now if you wanna talk some ish though, you better bring your A game. I'll send you packin with the best supported, well thought out, witty, PG-13 rated argument that'll make all your buddies bow down. But won't insult you, your family, home state, or livelihood. Keep it real y'all. Root for whoever.

South Carolina or Oregon are the only ones I'd want to win. So I'm sure UNC and Gonzaga make it to the finals and UNC wins.

That's how it usually works.

Great post, fortunately I didn't have kids in close proximity to me last Sunday, I was at game..but still didn't and not going to cuss them. I did seriously think about going after Higgins but knew that the end result would be bad for Kentucky so I just sat back down and let the steam blow out my ears. No matter what rival fans say I am going to pull for any SEC team competing provided they arent playing us.

If all it takes is one obnoxious fan not to pull for a certain team you have issues. Hell how can you even pull for UK. I don't care if the whole entire South Carolina fan base hates UK with a passion, I'm pulling for SC first. It's good for the conference and UK. Sometimes you have to be the bigger better man and put pettiness aside.

No, I want any SEC school to win it if we can't. It keeps UK at the top of its game having a strong conference. Plus it gives ammo to our critics who say UK is the only SEC school that can win it all if no other SEC school can.

Anybody But UNC is my battle cry this weekend. Go Cocks

I'm good with USC winning it. Makes the SEC look better. Plus, I like Frank Martin.

I will root for any SEC team to win a title except UF and maybe UT. UF fans went too far when Donovan was there. They acted like they were our equal. They learned the hard way that they are not UK, but as soon as they make another FF or win another title they will be back mouthing. I live too close to Tennessee to have to deal with them winning a title.

I won't watch the FF, though, as long as UNC is still playing. They should not be there. They should be on probation.

I don't have any issues at all. 2:40 tee time today and BBQ tonight. I want them to lose as I used to know a ton of SC fans when I lived in Florida. They always said UK cheated, Cal was dirty etc. I hope Ganzaga takes the life out of them, early. Do you seriously think the SEC will get a friendly whistle in the final game against the ACC? Won't happen. Oregon and Ganzaga are the only chance for UNC to go down. You're the one that seems to have issues since you have no tolerance for an opinion other than your own. Are you a Liberal?

I'll be watching the game. Hope South Carolina can win today. Sec conference is tougher than people believe, especially the national media.

Sorry but you clearly stated you were not going to root for SC because of one idiot who came over here and reveled in our loss. Don't root for SC, I don't care, it won't effect me one way or the other. Enjoy your golf (I know I enjoy mine). And no I am a not a liberal. About as conservative as they come.

As long as it isn't Florida I can pull for most of the other teams.

I lived amongst the gators during the Spurrier years. All of a sudden gator fans thought winning was a birthrite they'd always enjoyed. That was also when Florida made their first FF run. Annoying all.

I wish well for SEC with exception of Fla and Arky. I was at F4's in 06 & 07 and Gator fans were just more than I can bear but what's new with that? That being said I wish Coach Martin well and hope the bounces and rolls go their way in Phoenix

Nah, not at all. I think South Carolina fanbase (of the internet variety) got to be pretty obnoxious during the spurrier years, but overall, they're not bad people and they are just enjoying their moment. They truly are "long suffering" in both major sports, and I'm happy for them and hope they win the whole thing.

Seems to be a common link with Spurrier!

Unc - do I need to explain?

Oregon - with Nike money could turn into a national power house. Could potentially be a recruiting threat down through road.

Gonzaga already gets crazy preferential treatment, but they're not really a threat.

SC has a great man and great coach at the helm. Will never contend with recruits or prestige.
