Mullen to UNLV

Odd place for him to land, but I guess he still wants to show somebody that he can still coach.

Mullen's firing at Florida is kind of like when Nebraska was firing Frank Solich and Bo Pelini only to end up with Mike Riley, Scott Frost and Matt Rhule. Mullen still has some good results in him imo.

This is what I think happened at UF. Mullen never had the roster UF and several other teams had and he did enough to keep State fans happy with kids that just wanted to go to State, winning 7-10 most years. At UF that isn't the expected or accepted results. When he didnt spend every minute recruiting, the UF crowd turned on him and he just thought f it, you thought I was lazy before, watch this. He and the team quit on each other and that was the end.

He and his system will crush it out there.

Still a great coach in his prime. Only 52 years old.

Would not surprise me one bit if he sniffs around playoffs immediately.

Coaching is a great line of work to get into. In just about any other line of work, getting fired will dang near black list you from that field. But coaches can get fired multiple times and still always land on their feet at another high paying gig.

I LOVE this: "He and his system..."

And what system does he possess or use that is unique? Can UK adopt it? Just what is "the system"?

Not insulting the poster...Ive heard this phrase thrown around numerous times to describe a potential HC

I suppose system could just be another way of saying culture/philosophy/way of doing things.

What someone does over the course of time.

He did it at Utah and Florida as OC under Meyer to great success. He did it on his own to moderate success at UF post Meyer, but he was replacing a GOAT and incredible level of achievement so not sustaining that got him. A victim of his own success as OC/right hand man.

But then he did it again at State to great degree of success for that program.

His ability to evaluate, recruit, then develop them to produce at high level. Specifically, passing game skill talent and QB.

Then why do people diss on him so bad as a replacement for Stoops?

Yeah, a lot of people on here also snubbed their nose at Kiffen, Sark…

Not saying they were ever looking to coach here. Just in general when discussing coaching carousels over the years. Folks would laugh at the mere mention of Kif here Sark there…

Agree with others that he’ll likely do very well there. I’m so tunnel visioned about College FB I didn’t realize he’s replacing Barry Odom, who left UNLV to go to Purdue.
