More excited about UK basketball or football?

I'm excited for both. I think given recent events threads like this are unnecessary.
Football. It's been that way for the last four or five years.

Yeah, that coach is only in serious contention for six of the top ten recruits next year. What the hell is wrong with him, aren't there 13 slots on the team?
Oh, I forgot, 9 out of 10 of our posters would be better coaches than him, wonder why they aren't in coaching, guess they have a better job now. No need to worry about inflation.

UK Basketball has been on a downward death spiral for a few years. And Cal's latest comments were the last straw for me. As a (mostly) life long fan for almost 40 years, UK basketball is dead to me until the current coach leaves.
UK football has never been better during those same 40 years. I can't wait until next Saturday.

Who hasn't won a NCAA game since 2019, been to the FF since '15 and lost to a high school team with the NPOY. All while making damn near Nick Saban money. (since you brought up inflation)

Bye. I'm sure some BB fans will be crying if you leave, I know you will leave a big hole. If you think UK BB or Cal are on a big downward spiral then I have some advice, pay attention to what Cal is doihg in recruiting. Football is my first love but we are a long way from being a football school now and with recruiting being mostly about money now I think Stoops is too late to beat Bama or Georgia. and maybe even A&M and Thug U.
I am very impressed with the roster he has gotten together this year and maybe even more impressed about next year. I love football FIRST but when is the last time UK has had a top ten recruiting class?
But that new $80,000,000 football center is going to help a whole lot.
Oh wait, that was Florida, our latest big improvement is coming up on ten years, and then it was entirely due to the generosity of one of our biggest fans (and heroes) and we don't have too many of those. And we certainly don't have an AD that is going to do a lot to help either sport, maybe the rifle team..
But maybe you are impressed with his first ten years on the jpb, when the FOOTBALL money was poured into his pursuit of the Director's Cup. How did you like the football results he got with that brilliant move, how much money does the rifle team pour into our athletic budget now compared to football? Or even BB.
Best AD we have ever had at UK, maybe for the non-revenue sports, but I don't think so, he would have had a lot more money for them if he hadn't starved football to death. And he did starve it to death, witness the two two win seasons and the five years in a row we missed a gimme bowl game.
But now he is a football hero, go figure. Thank you Stoops, hope you don't give up.

Jauk, we led the nation in basketball recruiting before CCC, and we will lead the nation in basketball recruiting after CCC, but will likely avoid his attitude and embarrassing missteps in the future.
It's the football forum so I would expect a heavy lean towards football but I but I like football better and that's where I'm leaning. The football is more exciting to me right now. Stoops has pushed the program up the hill so to speak. This is fun stuff.
One thing at a time, about 98 percent of the major college BB teams. And that high school beat a couple more teams in the tourney, do you remember when the NUMBER ONE team lost to a 16 seed? Coulda shoulda beat that team 99 times out of a hundred. Missed five out of six FTS at a crucial point in the game and our NPOTY missed two of them. Dumb coach should haven't have had him in the game (LOVE Oscar), but blame Cal for that too. I think UK only pays about 10% of Cal's salary. Maybe our illustrious AD could get Billy G again, is he still around?
How do you like our team for the next two years? Better stay away, he might ruin your day.

I usually like your posts but this is a dumb one. And I think UK had about as good a chance as anyone and I am not sure he wasn't in contention for six of the last ten years, certainly injuries killed last years team. How many teams win one every ten years------without cheating. I think he has his mojo back and will win one in the next two years, tell me who we could get that would do better. Without cheating.
Winning a NC in BB without cheating is a tall order.

We got two of the nations best in UK's home town and added some other great players and it still took UK until their senior year to win a title.
He's always done pretty good with recruiting, so there's nothing new there. But he can't coach and he runs them all off.
But this is the football board and my last comment on basketball. I'm also far from the only one who is done with Cal.
Glad it's your last post on BB. we already have enough dumb posters. But enjoy the football season, hope it is a memorable one, and I think it could be. I'm glad he didn't try to run our NPOTY off, aren't you.
Excited for both but more excited about football. Have seen basketball success in my lifetime but football success has been limited. The last few years have been awesome as a UK fan. Fun watching the rise of a program.

If they handed out NCs for #1 ranked recruiting classes that might mean something. We’ve had top 2 classes every year Cal has been at UK, with one title to show for it. And, zero FFs going on 8 years, including a 9-16 season & a first round loss to St Freaking Peter’s the past 2 seasons. Fact is, Cal is on the short list of coaches to accomplish the least with the most talent. He’s discount Dean Smith til he wins another one. I’m not saying he’s not a very good coach, or, that I can do better, lol. But, he has underachieved, here, IMO.
I love UK basketball & hope we win it all every season. But, Cal has had superior talent most every year, here, only to see our season end at the hands of inferior teams, with far less talent, each time, with the exception of one season, thanks to a generational talent in the middle. Having said that, I love our roster this season & I think it should be a FF team. Maybe, even our best team since 2015. If everyone stays healthy we go a solid 11 deep. But, I’ll have to see it before I believe Cal can avoid choking, yet again, & get the job done.
I hope I’m wrong & I will happily admit I’m an idiot & eat crow all year if he wins another championship. I don’t particularly like Cal. But I’ll never root against him while he’s at UK & I hope we go 40-0 every season until he retires. But, I’m not holding my breath waiting on #9. I’ve seen this movie several times, now, & until he proves otherwise, I can’t imagine a different ending than the one I’ve seen 12/13 times.
Football. It is the only college sport that matters to me in all honesty. Basketball is just a passing thought.

Football always, it's probably been over 5 years since I've watched basketball.
So it seems like most here are holding it against Cal that he brings in great recruiting classes. Weird, considering that most here are excited about the football team that hasn't won anything of note; Admittedly they are much improved, but the fact remains they haven't won anything of note.
My excitement is the sport of college football. Basketball is dull and only a few universities care anything about it. Cal or no Cal.
No - we're not holding that against him. Everyone agrees he is a great recruiter. He just can't coach.
I'm always more excited for football but I'm pretty damn excited for basketball too this year. We looked great in the Bahamas, and this football team looks poised to have a Big year. It's a great time to be a Cayts fan. Just wish we could get baseball rolling

Based on what? Cal's HOF induction? His winning percentage? His national championship? I think he has certainly under achieved at times, but to say "he can't coach" is disingenuous. But the funny part is, the same dudes will talk about what a great coach Stoops is. Granted the programs were in different places. But in my opinion Stoops record is a bit deceiving. Beats 3 FCS schools per year. Beats Vandy. Beats UL who is on the decline. Florida hasn't been the Florida of old. And for the "St. Peters" and "Robert Morris crowd", football lost to WKU and Southern Miss. So there are plenty of bad losses to go around. I don't want another football coach but to say "Cal can't coach" while propping Stoops up doesn't really make sense. The primary difference is expectation; Cal coaches with a ton of expectation while Stoops doesn't really have any.
Both to be honest as well as vollyball, track, softball and baseball.
But to answer the question between basketball or football I will give it to football.
Reason is just basketball has been kind of a draining emotional disappointment for us at my house.
Not saying we did not have some awesome games and awesome players come through. Its just been kind of a roller coaster.
I do feel like this year is going to be special for both football and basketball.
