Ellen and Cal are empty nesters at the moment with Brad at prep school. Ellen wants Brad back close to home. Look for Brad to walk on next season.

I really don't see Cal going anywhere in the next few years and if Cal's son decides to come here then he will be here for at least 4 more years. With next years class at #1 and the players he has coming and still might get Bolden to add to this unbelievable class Cal isn't going anywhere next year with this huge class and a National Championship with this class coming in next year.

So he will go back to the team that fired him? Makes perfect sense to me.

I agree. Cal has a monster recruiting class next year. It is likely that the next class will be Cal's best ever, which makes it one of the best recruiting classes in all of college basketball. No way Cal leaves the opportunity to coach such an extraordinary class.

We already made him King, and in Kentucky, that actually matters.

How much more money will Brooklyn offer him?

Better question, will it even be worth it to leave for the extra money given that Cal WILL be fired within three years because that roster won't be competitive and management won't be patient enough to wait until competitive comes?

While I totally agree with all the arguments about Brad, and next years recruits, you guys are forgetting the biggest reason Cal doesn't leave. He could not beat Rick and get under his skin, like he does now, if he left for the league. As long as Rick is at UL, Cal stays.

Only way I see Cal leaving would be for a Phil Jackson type job. Basketball of Operations or something like that. I don't think he leaves to coach in the NBA. I also don't see it happening, if at all, till at least the end of next season. Not with that recruiting class

Everyone talks about the huge deal Cleveland Cavs was offering Coach Cal for 10 years at $80million to be Head Coach and President. That deal is 8million a year and Coach Cal is near the $8 mil deal with his last extension and raise at Kentucky. The big difference from College to NBA is that in College Coach Cal coaches around 35-40 games a year and in the NBA with the Pre-Season, Regular Season, and Playoffs would be around around 120 games a year in the NBA. His average per game in the NCAA at 40 games for approx. 8mil. = $200,000 per game and in the NBA 8Mil. at 120 games is $67,000 per game. So, Coach Cal would still make alot more with staying in NCAA at UK. There is more traveling in the NBA with the amount of away games and also the pressure if not making it deep in the playoffs NBA Head Coaches are just fired now after a couple of seasons and especially at Cleveland with Lebron, Love, and Irving on that team. Coach Cal is making more now than most of the Head Coaches in the NBA right now at UK and will be hard for a team to offer Coach Cal a Contract with what he is now making at UK at approx.$8 mil annually.

Never understand how this stuff is posted on UK board....UL board maybe but not here...why draw attn to it???

Cals wife will make that call. After the interview i watched from last week she is not Interested in being a nba wife again.

Cals family has sacrificed a lot for him to chase his dream. As much as it may be eating at cal to go back, its not his choice anymore.

Honestly i think we will have to run cal off lol. Best description i have ever heard of cal was that he enjoys and succeeds in chaos. Cal at his best in the middle of the tornado. So how can he get his fix and keep his family happy? Stay at uk.

Im just not worried about it anymore like maybe 3 years ago or something.

I'm not saying Cal will or won't leave at some point, but there is a 100% chance he doesn't go to the Nets. The Nets blew through all their assets for years when they acquired KG, Pierce, Deron Williams and Gerarld Wallace

Just peeped their roster and wow is that a lot of suck.

Love Cal. Absolutely love Cal. He's a great basketball coach. And I wouldn't want anyone else leading our program.

But I just don't think his style or his temperament translates well at the NBA level. Too much in-your-face. Too much yelling. At players. At refs. Every game. That just doesn't fly in the league.

So, Cal to the NBA? Don't think so. JMHO.

Wishful thinking on the part of these UK Haters,John Calipari and his wife have made it perfectly clear they are happy here and not going anywhere. While stranger things have happened and some people are Liars, example Pitino right before he bolted to the Celtics,I can't see why Calipari would quit being the Big Fish in the pond to be a regular fish in the ocean. How much money does one family need anyway?

I saw an interview last week with Cal and his wife and my impression was that she definitely loves the college atmosphere and does not want him to go back to the NBA. There will always be rumors though. Doubt he leaves, he's got it rolling at UK.

Cal left the nets and never looked back. He hates that franchise.

Good luck Brooklyn it ain't happenin.

He hiring and firing processes of the NBA and NFL are insane. Especially the NFL. Cal would be an idiot to go back.

I now think there's no way. He's got it made. The NBA doesn't have anything to offer. Even if he won an NBA championship......

So?

It's not a big deal anymore. Winning here matters more than winning there.

Agree overall, but winning a NBA title is a big damn deal. Cal would join only Larry Brown as the two coaches to win at both levels at the highest point.

Yea, probably the wrong choice of words. It's just that the NBA today isn't some juggarnaut league that people are fascinated with. It's not like it used to be.

NBA title < blue blood title.

The people that really care, care more at this level.

IMO.

I can't see Cal ever leaving UK for the NBA. When teams do good in the NBA its the players who get all the credit, never the coach. College basketball is completely different. College basketball coaches are in the bright lights more than NBA coaches and Cal realizes that.

Why would a man who is making millions leave a program where an entire Big Blue Nation loves you with all their heart.
Where gymnasiums fill with blue fans as far away as California. To go to a crap NBA team where the players make millions and Know it all. thats not gonna happen

For: it'd be pretty cool to win both an NCAA and NBA title, just like his mentor Larry brown.

Against: monster recruiting class coming in, best chance since 2012 to win with new guys. Ellen sounded dead ice cold when the NBA was brought up in an interview. The nets are horrible and no amount of finagling can help that due to awful trades. They have nothing to work with. UK will match whatever financial package comes up and college will always be a reduced game load.

Bottom line: won't happen unless Cal wins two more titles in a row and really needs that NBA challenge and begs Ellen. But you can bet it'll never be the nets.

There is about 5/6 players worth leaving to the NBA for. LeBron, Curry, KD, AD if they improve the team, and CP3/Griffin and none of those jobs are open. He'll be here

Edit: Add Timberwolves to the list if they can add a legit wing player this year
