Monk Announcing Final List TUESDAY NIGHT

Where is Ullis and Briscoe and Matthews in those rotations? Bridges doesn't want to play the 4. You can label it whatever you like, it's still the 4.

Ulis and Briscoe will be in the pros in that scenario. If one or both are back, then we don't get all those freshmen.

Matthews is probably odd man out if we get all four of Fox, Monk, Simmons, and Bridges unless he beats Mulder out for the top backcourt reserve spot. Cal isn't playing 9-10 guys again. 8-man rotation max.

As for Bridges playing the 4, well, if he chooses UK he will play wherever Coach Cal wants him to play. If he goes to MSU, he'll play wherever Izzo wants him to play. Once you get them signed, they are at the coaches' mercy.

IMO, Cal will do whatever he needs to do with the players on his roster.

I don't expect him to recruit and plan for a team where 9-10 guys play big minutes. But if he finds himself in a situation like 2015 again, don't be surprised to see him do something similar. He just may not call it platooning.

It's not like 2015 was all bad. 38 straight wins and 6 draft picks. I'm sure Cal would figure out some way to live with himself.

This is silly

Do you think this kid would rather play back up pg or start at sf? I bet he would go with starting at sf over coming off the bench. I bet you thought it was silly when we recruited Liggins at pg and he ended up playing and playing his best at sf. I don't know what is going to happen, but if we land Fox, he will be our starting pg. With or without Simmons on the roster. It's not like you see 6'5 point guards in college everyday. When you're 6'5, you can play 3 spots on the floor. Pay attention to our starting sf this coming season. Murray will play pg in the nba and sf here at Kentucky.

Honestly, (knowing Cal) I expect to sign another big like Adebayo, Maker, Allen, etc., so it's probably a moot point.

I think we end up looking something like this next season:

Starters
G Fox
G Monk
F Bridges
F Killeya-Jones
F Adebayo (I can't help but dream of getting this kid)

Key Reserves
G Mulder
G Matthews
F Humphries

Bench
F Wynyard (bring him along slowly)
G Hawkins
F Willis
G Floreal

If we get Simmons on top of that, he probably battles Mulder and Matthews for the top reserve spot on the perimeter. Cal almost always starts top 10 guys, but I don't see Simmons being at that level anymore and with Booker going lottery after being a reserve, I don't think starting is an issue when you play for Cal.

So I really don't see a Simmons commit meaning we won't get Fox, Monk, and Bridges. Simmons could back those guys up and still get plenty of minutes as sixth man.

He won't go that deep again. It hurt in recruiting (though it kind of paid off in the end) because teams used the platoon against Cal and it worked. Some recruits said they were scared off by the platoon system. I don't see Cal using it again.

That's why I am saying Mulder OR Matthews by the end of the season. I don't think he'll play both. One will emerge as the top backcourt reserve.

Just my opinion, though. I could be wrong.

Exactly. If Simmons was going to cost us Fox, i don't think we would be pushing for a commitment. If the kid had a problem with this, i'm pretty sure he would be going elsewhere. This kid knows there will be plenty of minutes to go around and at Kentucky, it's proven time after time you don't have to start nor be the man to be drafted high in the lottery. When we land Fox and Simmons, rival fans will be going through the roof.

I get what you are saying, but I don't believe it's true. Cal is pragmatic. He will do what he needs to do.

He is never going to tell recruits, "Hey, I'm going to recruit 10-11 elite players so get ready to split minutes."

But if he ends up in a situation again where a couple of unexpected guys stick around, he will deal with it. He isn't going to bench guys who deserve to be on the floor.

Point blank, you can't argue with the results. Historic season last year. Another top rated class. Now he's in on half the top guys next year.

Sure he had to scramble a bit, but so what? Cal thrives on scrambling.

Just imagine a year that Cal has to scamble, he still lands a guy like Murray late. I'll take his recruiting down years and be top 10 in recruiting every year.

Good point. Cal will do whatever he thinks will win him games and will get the most guys the best opportunities.

But, Cal has always believed in Wooden's philosophy of playing your best guys the most minutes. He went against this philosophy last year. I don't think he will again, but that is just my opinion.

Unless he has 10 5-stars I don't see him platooning again.

Now he might play Matthews and Mulder equal minutes (giving them 8-10 minutes each instead of giving one 15-20 minutes), but 10 guys playing nearly even minutes isn't happening again, IMHO.
