Monday games on tv. Two good ones: Dook at VT and Houston at Texas

Two things:
1) I will be scared of Houston if we play them. They are just really good.

2) Can someone please tell me why the ACC is so fawned over by people (including refs), and specifically Duke!! I thought maybe it would die down a little with K being gone, but...what the heck? I'm serious with this question. If anyone has any ideas, please enlighten me!! Thanks.

GO BIG BLUE!!!💙💙💙

Is that three in a row that Texas has dropped now? Ouch.

Edit: it is. It. But they have lost 3 of their last five. And barely beat Baylor. WOOF.

More alarming is that they have already lost three of these games @ home. They still have to go on the road to Houston, Kansas, Baylor and Texas Tech.

Texas isn't a bad team but the record could get quite ugly in that conference.

Already projected to go 8-10 in conference. Yikes.

I guess one of the perks to playing a bit slower tempo is that Houston can be as aggressive as they want on defense. They foul a ton but in a low possession game, it doesn't seem to hurt them all that much.

It’s funny seeing all the Houston worry after last night. I would love for them to be our 1 seed. Should’ve lost last night. Their stats are inflated due to overwhelming poor non conference teams like 75-35 with low possessions for crazy high efficiency. They aren’t particularly big, they aren’t a great shooting team, and they’re not particularly deep.

Here’s their performances in games against actual competition:

-they played Dayton in Charleston and won by 14
-won by 6 at a bad Xavier team
-won by 4 at home vs A&M. Was tied with a min and a half left so a real tossup.
-loss at ISU only scored 53
-loss at TCU
-won at BYU. Tie game with 2 minutes left.
-they did beat Tech like a drum
-should’ve lost last night at UT

Low possession games invite themselves for upsets in the tournament in my opinion.

During conference play in one of the best conferences (many would say best) this is what they have done:
Gone 6-2.

Allowed teams to shoot just 42.5% from 2
Allowed teams to shoot just 30.0% from 3
Forced turnovers on 1 out of every 5 of their opponents possessions
Rebounded nearly 73% of their opponents misses.
Has a block % of 17.6%
Posted a defensive efficiency of 91.4. Not only is that first in the Big 12 but the next team down is Cincy at 97.8.

Furthermore offensively
They only turned it over on 13.5% of their own possessions.
Rebounded nearly 36% of their misses.
Posted an offensive efficiency of 110.9. That's 3rd best in the conference.

So yeah they don't shoot well but given the fact they rebound so well and they don't turn it over and then combine that with the fact they force a ton of turnovers and rebound well defensively, they are also taking a massive amount more shots then their opponents.

There is no planet where this is not a good team.

Your last point does ring true, but IMO it's a bit overblown. After all we did have UVA win a title playing at this pace not too long ago. Plus in a one and done tournament, everyone is susceptible to being upset.
