MODS: can we post a "rules" thread regarding thread starting?

For example,

If it is a TIpton link, let me it be known.

Also, if you post a thread and give a link, maybe can the poster copy and paste the article of some of it? I hate clicking a link and it's random BS.

Other suggestions?

My biggest beef is during games, people start a new thread for every thought that comes into their heads instead of putting it in the game thread. On that same topic, has anyone looked into the issue of why game threads tend to start screwing up once it reaches 5 pages? I've heard it is a rivals-wide problem and it's been happening for many years. Why can't/won't they fix it?

Good discussions/threads are always lost on game days because so many goofs need to start their own thread for every damn play. Other boards are strict about this but for some reason we allow it.

Game comments should be in game threads the same way political stories should be in the political thread on the Paddock.

I'm learning the landscape myself as I just came here

Always hated Tipton, no issues. The rest I would think would be common sense. How about a "Tips for Success in Posting" sticky and then long term build it into the sign up process? It's hard to make some of this stuff "rules"

Maybe more mods for thread merging or deletion? I have no idea how many there are here

I'm not sure why everyone is so bothered by duplicate threads. You don't have to read every freakin' thread on this board. If you see a duplicate, there's a very simple thing you can do: don't open it. You're not missing anything and somehow life will go on without reading it. I would rather have multiple threads on a topic than having to sift through a 100 page thread. JMO.

Yeah, you're right, no one has to read every freaking thread and we can just skip the duplicates, but people can just as easily not start a new freaking thread every time they have something to say, when a thread on that same exact topic already exists.

That's how message boards work. If there's already a topic of discussion, opinions on that topic should be posted in that thread. That was the whole point of starting said thread to begin with.

Not to mention, as someone pointed out already, there's only so many threads on the first page, and when half of them are all discussing the same three - four topics, then other good threads get pushed off of the first page, and missed and/or forgotten about

Come here on gameday and you'll see exactly that. One minute there's a few decent threads on the front page, then the next minute there all gone because there are 10 different threads bitching about the refs, six more bitching about the twins, four more bitching about bitching about the refs, and then eight more bitching about the announcers.

We need a new thread all on its own about duplicate threads.I hate those.

Bodvar - I hope you saw my apology in the thread regarding BBM. I was wrong to deem you a UL fan. After reading your "sturdy mount" post, I feel you are one of us.

Also - a rule for the board - when someone posts venomous rants about Cal and/or our players on a UL board (I'm talking to you petjurino), then tries to post here, BAN. I mean damn, you get banned anywhere else for that stuff.

Wait - scratch that - it would cut down on the fun on here. Nevermind; how about duplicate threads? Anyone else have issues with that?

Calm down Dawaine. We get the point.

I don't have a problem with starting some threads during games. You can't get a decent discussion about something that happened in the game when there are like 20 posts about random stuff every minute. Everything gets lost to fast. I mostly read the board with my phone or tablet and it can be hard to keep up with game threads. Now I can see a problem if 10 people start a thread about a horrible call by the ref, but maybe one thread about the overall officiating in the game should be fine.

I hate how someone will make a joke in a thread but then others pile on and keep doing it until it's not even funny anymore. I don't think they should be allowed to do that.

Also I think there's too many duplicate threads.
I agree, in triplicate

Man, you are just policing all over the place. First, you're the grammar police telling people to use paragraphs on their posts and now youre policing threads and telling mods what to do. Geez, you need a badge!

Idc what you to do the layout of topics.. Just, for once, start kicking some of the trolls out.

The first reply after the OP is almost always a wise ass reply. That must be a rule somewhere.

Oooooo I got it. lets have the mods make a rule of not taking suggestions from posters.

Rule number 1 SHOULD be: Don't start a stupid thread!
I disagree , where are we going to learn language from an ancient tongue if you take stupid out of the equation ? There's also nothing better than watching someone get taken by the pride .

The stupid provide vital nutrients and minerals to a message board. We must carefully nurture them like a fine crop of well ripened tomatoes.
