MLB Top 150 Draft Prospects

This draft will be interesting. It might be just 5 rounds. After that it will be a free agency with guaranteed money. Later round picks might be very tempted to take that money.

Tonight at 7pm.

Do we think anyone else will be drafted?

From UK? Not a chance in hell.

What UK fans have to watch for is next week when they begin to open up the free agency market. Will guys like TJ Collett and others be tempted by free agency money to go ahead and go pro, or will they be back?

I think if TJ does not get drafted he would wait until next year when he would and get more than the 20K. I understand being a Senior with no leverage at that point but there has to be a better slot value in the 8-10th rounds next year vs a free agent this year.

I am not convinced that he'd be an 8-10th round pick. I mean, I guess it is certainly possible, but the fact that he went entirely undrafted in 2019 makes me skeptical that he would make such a large jump in 2021. Of course, it would all depend on how he does. I think the big thing turning people off of him is the injuries, and that he is fairly limited in where he can play. So, I think he'd really have to mash and have epic numbers to make a huge jump.

We're going to see a whole lot of SEC guys tonight. One already off the board at 2 with Heston Kjerstad from Arkansas.

Tim Corbin on the MLB.tv broadcast. Dude isn't the most charismatic person, and he looks a bit goofy, but he really knows his stuff. Just speaks intelligently about the game. It's nothing like listening to Mingione.

Bryce Jarvis played high school ball in Lexington and left the state to go to Duke. Winds up 18th overall tonight. He's a guy UK could have desperately used the past two years.

I was watching as well and totally agree. Corbin was excellent.

I was just shocked with his breakdowns. It was so technical and you could really tell that the guy knew what to look for in a player and why. Which, to me, makes it clear that he will also know how to teach that player to be better because he can then fix the issues that they might be having.

When Mingione speaks you just get that 'Aww shucks,' type of attitude and he speaks in generalities about how someone put in the time in the weight room or, 'Oh man, he's just worked so hard to get better.'

So impressed with Corbin.

Ya Corbin was great last night.

We’ll see if Hagenow goes today. I feel everyone who gets drafted will sign as teams won’t want to lost 20% of a draft class due to not signing. Hopefully he put a # on himself higher than teams are comfortable with.

Yea, if I had to guess they are likely making very sure that the players they draft will be ones that stick with them.

Won’t see the end but so far so good. Also no Mitchell Parker which is also big imo. Think in a normal draft he’d also for sure be taken. Already drafted out of high school and after one year of juco. His teammate just got drafted only throwing nine innings (he’s also 6-8 and throws over 100). But Parker dominate at the juco level and is left handed. Him and Hagenow could be two instant impact arms.

edit. I’ll probably jinx it.

Mitchell Parker drafted (#153 overall) in the 5th round by the Nationals.

He went 153 out of 160.

Damn it was Washington too. Believe they took the juco pitcher signed with UK last year in like the ~12th round and got him to sign.

I believe this is the third pitcher from that same JUCO that we've now missed on. Or maybe just the second.

Maybe he won’t sign? Maybe he thinks if he comes to Kentucky and has success in the SEC he can improve his stock. With that said, it’s hard for me to believe with only 5 rounds that teams didn’t already have a commitment from players to sign for a certain amount of money before drafting them. I’d gladly be wrong!

Yea, I highly doubt that any team, just needing to know about 160 players, drafted anyone without basically the guarantee that they'd sign. I suppose it is possible, but I highly doubt it.

It is even less likely, IMO, because the draft only being 5 rounds this year may very well mean that the 20 round draft next year will be extremely crowded, being that it will technically feature 3 college classes (senior extra year, senior, and juniors). So, if you were drafted this year you likely want to avoid more competition.

See where U6 has three high draft choices...in McDonnell's 14 years at U6 he has had at least 3 players drafted ever season

Seems like good news from Ryan Hagenow. Sorry guys - couldn’t link the Tweet.

Had an amazing birthday with my family, friends, and coaches. Excited to start the next chapter! Go cats :) @AdmiralGameday

Parker signed with the Nats which is no surprise. However he supposedly signed for 100k which was about 250k below his slot value.

Not sure why you'd take less money in 2020. You have that org between a rock and a hard space given they only have 5 people to sign and shouldn't want to waste any picks.
