MLB Draft

Dustin Beggs went in the 32nd round to the Mets. I have to imagine that he will be back. Unfortunately, I am not really sure how much better he can pitch. I thought he had a very solid year and would have been around the 15-20 range.

Riley Thompson was the first Kentucky high school baseball player to go in the draft and he went in the 37th round to the Reds. He should be going to Louisville.

I think that is pretty much going to wrap things up for the draft. Now it is a waiting game to see who signs.

I would imagine Beggs would return. Stranger things have happened though. It seems to be a below average year for in state prospects. Riley Thompson would have been drafted higher if not for a late season injury. I really wish UK could have kept Daniel Neal from Tennessee. He's going to be a good one.

Shumpert had some weird stats....600 ba (wow) .722 obp (wow) 5 HRs (meh) 14 RBIs (weird)...I understand he was likely the leadoff hitter which lowers the RBI total, but his teammates mustve been awful. 14 RBI and we know at least 5 were from dingers...maybe his walk totals would shed more light

KY Mr Baseball signed with TN (great!).....532 avg, 15 dingers and 55 RBIs...also pitched for a 2.0 ERA and 6-3 record

He had been committed to UT for quite a while !

Neal has potential but UT was the only high level school to recruit him. I played against him in high school and he was certainly a good player. However, I don't think UK will pay down the road for not recruiting him.

UT hasn't exactly been tearing it up on the baseball diamond. They were supposed to be a top 25 team this year and they ended up finishing 12th in the league (barely). Their coach was supposed to be a savior for their program, but he has been a pretty huge bust. I imagine they will try to replace him soon.
