MKG nears 4 yr/$52 million deal

I think he would have gotten more next year. Anyone who calls him a bust doesn't pay attention. He's not a star but he's pretty good and is a top notch wing defender, not as good as Kawhi at it but close. Plus he's only 21, great deal for Charlotte.

Yep.

Great news. One of the most likeable kids to ever play at UK. Good for him

Mo Money Mo money, good for him, always like to see a UK basketball player do well for himself, congrats MKG[thumb2]

Perhaps he could have made more by waiting, but he also could have torn his achilles and made significantly less. Smart move was to take the 13 million a year contract. Love MKG, very happy for him. And this is only the start. He will make much more in his next contract!

If MKG would have kept growing as projected years ago, he'd be top 5 in the league.

Anyone who calls him a bust watches zero NBA, and that's coming from someone who watches little.

I believe we are approaching 1 billion.

Entirely possible, especially with the cap rising and the improvement you'd expect in a player who will only turn 22 next month. Certainly can't blame him for cashing in with a nice deal now due to the possibility of injury as IowaUKFan pointed out.
Reminds me kind of a Tony Allen/Gerald Wallace mix. Definitely better than Allen offensively, but tough to say if he'll be an 18 point per game scorer Wallace was during his best seasons.

Why wouldn't any young Basketball player not want to play for Kentucky.

I'm obviously a homer but I always wonder this. Best fans, best facilities, best tradition and best training for the league. You look at sure fire top picks like Okafor (who drops to third), top 5 talent like Winslow (who drops to 10) and you scratch your head. Whether the development is real or perceived, there's no denying a Kentucky Effect under Cal. What's the downside?

Great kid. Really happy for him. Re-watched the HBO special on his high school team called Prayer for a Perfect Season. Made me like him even more. I forgot the day he signed with UK that his uncle/mentor passed away earlier in that day. Hence the "Kidd" in his name.

Good call by MKG when you factor in his age. He'll be 25 at the end of this deal and already have 52 million earned (let's call it's $22 million after taxes). That's still "live more than comfortably the rest of your life if you don't do anything stupid" money. Then, he'll be in his athletic prime angling for a 4-5 year deal... Worst case scenario (barring injury) he gets roughly the same deal, that's $52 more million ($22 after taxes). Best case, he could be in the 80-90 million range ($40 mil after taxes). Then his last contact at age 30 or 31, could be anywhere between the mid level exception and another 50 or so million, depending on level of play.

So barring catastrophe, he's now primed to make $110 or so million on the low side of things, and around 200 million on the high side. (Roughly half those totals in actual cash).

Man, sucks being a bust, doesn't it? LOL, can I be a bust that way???
