MJ On Post Game: Kerr May Not Be Back Next Year

Kerr better learn to play defense if this is true. I can't see Pitino playing him if he isn't going to play defense.
I wonder why he wants to go THERE. Because they have the better record? Is it Rick's pre-game and halftime speeches? Was Rick back-channeling him? Just VERY ODD (to me) that this conversation is taking place when the Cats are supposedly fighting for their tourney lives, and it was THAT TEAM. Something seems off.

Why are the players talking about stuff like this at this point? Their focus should be on what they need to win the game at hand, and games going forward. The media wouldn't be talking about it if the players weren't.
The media does not have to talk about everything the players talk about. But integrity in the media has been absent for years. So, anything and everything an 18 to 22 year old says is up for passing along, I suppose. Maybe the leaks are financially motivated, I'm not sure, but goodness knows if all the crap I said at 20 that I didn't mean was published, that would have been interesting. Nobody cared what I thought though, for good reason.

You missed the point of my post. The ISSUE is that we have players whose focus is NOT on the current season and what they can be doing to help the team get into and go deep into the tournaments, but instead these players are looking at other teams they want to play for, and they just happened to reveal this to the media.

I totally agree and understand your point. Players have responsibilities in this arena as well especially since NIL. That's why I would hope (not convinced for sure) this is an external issue from the team focus. But I guess it is the time we live in.

Why does he think this? Did he mention any reasoning?

Has Kerr said anything?
Matt is a good “confirming” source. He doesn’t always get out ahead of other news sources. He makes sure it’s legit before saying it.

Usually if he’s willing to put it out there, it’s been vetted.

I think, as others have said, Kerr won’t start next year. May not even win our backup PG spot. He probably knows it.

Well in Kerr case he might not even play again the rest of the year . It would make sense that he is already looking at other options .

In general a player could not day anything and someone call always start a rumor in this era of sports .

So for me, the elephant in the room is could Kerr have come back quicker and helped us or did the NIL for next year keep him from coming back. I choose to believe his injury is truly that serious and he could not get back. But the portal and NIL has jaded me. I like the kid and really want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Which is why people should grow to LOVE Perry, Noah and Chandler. The three that are NOT going anywhere. For the good or bad.
Not so sure about Chandler. If is bride to be doesn't want to move to ky, then I could see him leaving

I would rather have a 2nd year Perry than Kerr. I love his energy, but he is very limited on the floor. Perry just needed experience and pace to become the backup next year. He Lewis and Jasper will be a very nice rotation. Not saying we couldn’t use a portal PG/combo guard.

The future looks bright. We just have to find a way to stay healthy.
Like the ky kids, but Perry will never be more than a role player, spot up shooter. He is too limited athletically. Same for Noah. Must have speed and quickness to survive in the SEC

She better get used to not being in one place too long if he's going to stick with basketball for the foreseeable future.
I don't know why everyone assumes she's calling the shots.

I’ll take it a step further and I don’t care which gullible snowflakes it rubs the wrong way…

I don’t believe Kerr had the injury he claimed he had! Go back and watch it! At NO POINT is he favoring a broken left foot!

Dude got his NIL deposited, and he probably wasn’t happy about the playing arrangements, why else would he be thinking about transferring!

Agreed. This NIL deal is starting to make some waves.
I hope Pope weighs in.
To me the schools need some assurance these should stay longer. At least 2 years. In exchange they get good contracts in the millions. What could go wrong!?

That is all Kerr is on a top 15 team. I said he would be a back up. If he can work on pushing the offense and defending(Kerr wasn’t that good either), he can be a rotation player. He definitely needs to work on his body, not all defense is about quickness. Yes, if everything else is equal, the athletic player is going to be a better defender. Reed was pretty athletic based on his draft stats. Yet, he was a terrible on ball defender, in my view, even worse than Perry is now. What we need as a backup PG is someone who can hold his own, usually against the opponents 2nd string, while the starter can get a breather. He is likely going to be limited to 10-15 min.

If I was that big of a paranoid conspiracy theorist id step away from the game.

Wow! Some people need to come out from under their aluminum foil hats.

This is a full on business now. Nothing to do with college. He will make his best business decision for himself after the year. Every guy on every college team, as soon as their seasons are over will now have to make the same decision. Yeah, the guy at High Point that played 10 minutes a game and averaged 1.1 points decision has way less money than say Brandon Garrison or Kerr but he will have a decision to make. Before all this open market money stuff, each years guys had to make a decision to stay, transfer and sit a year. Guys like Macy, Anderson, Pope all made that decision. Now these guys do not have anything to hold them besides their talks with the coaching staffs. If a coach puts out a plan that makes sense for the guy, the money will work itself out. If not then you see guys leave or you have a guy that will promise the moon, promise money they do not have (happening all the time now) and do just about anything to get guys to their team or away from another team for whatever reason. If Garrison goes in portal, Cal will be the first on him along with the light blue boys (unc). If they want to leave all I say is announce on day one. Do not drag it out and leave one of the teams hanging.

I will say this, when I had the same fracture, I could not put weight on it. I played one season of high school football with a fractured ankle, stayed black and blue for the entire season. After the season the xray looked alike a map of lexington roads with fractures. But that Jones fracture with my weight 260+ at the time of the fracture, I could not put weight on the foot.

That being said, Kerr is smaller guy, not as much weight to put on that fracture. If a guy is injured he is injured. I do not try to start rumors of he aint hurt. No reason for that crap. We saw it with the other freshman that got to live rent free for 8 months at UK.

I don't fault him for this, and I think we'd all do the same in his shoes.

It's different if you hear "Oweh looking at transferring."

But a guy with a broken foot that probably isn't playing again this season--what do you expect him to do? NOT think about his future? That's unreasonable.

Kerr isn't going to the NBA. He has an entire life ahead of him. He'll have a family to take care of one day. The smart move for his life and his future family is to get as much money as he can while he can. I can't fault him for that.

I've had the Jones and could put weight on it directly after the break but the next morning no way in hell.
Bottom line Kerr is not faking a broken foot.
Pope spoke on Kerr's injury when he probably should not have and gave fans a very unrealistic time line for his return.
If the "I haven't seen him" line was ever appropriate it was probably here.
