Missouri

I know literally nothing about them except they apparently can score a ton and aren't as good on the road.

If they are guard heavy, we may have a problem. My guess is that they drive a lot, and that has been our Achilles heel this year. I also don't believe they are fantastic defensively as has been shown by some of the shootout scores I've seen them involved in. If we could play at least halfway decent defense and hit 10+ threes, I think we could outshoot them and win. Or trade a 2 for 3.

I won't look at their stats, though, until around Friday. Or if someone here posts a preview and does the work for me, I'll definitely read up.

That always seems to be a trait of Missouri, guard heavy. 4 or 5 out. They did this with Phil Pressey 10 or so years ago when they were last pretty good.

Hope we get the W. Would be nice to finish above 500 in the SEC. Also always like to be a few teams in the SEC not Kentucky, check that, all teams in the SEC not Kentucky. lol

Biggest problem with UMO is playing them at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. They play so darn good at home.
There's no way we beat them if they lose tonight. That would be 2 straight losses and they'd be salivating to play us at home coming off a 2 game skid. That would be the 3rd time this year we went on the road and played a team that had lost 2 in a row.

Missouri needs to win tonight.

5th best offensive efficiency
59th best defensive efficiency

That's not a whole lot different than our 6th/57th

They do practically everything well on offense but extremely good shooting team (which could be a nightmare given our D) and they get to the line.........like a lot. 10th in effective FG % and 2nd in Free Throw Rate.

We cannot have the fouls accumulate in this one. If we do there's no shot here. The free throw difference in this one could be massive and I already see posts about the refs incoming lol.

Also very good with turnover % on both sides. Offense they don't turn it over much (15.3%) and on Defense they force quite a bit (20.7%).

The one negative on defense for them is they stink at rebounding on defense. 299th. Sadly that's not really something we do all that well on offense.

Watched them when they played Tennessee. Unless they just have a bad game, I think this is a 7-15 point loss. Their guards are legit and they are very quick. They’ll hang 100 on us. I’ve dreaded this game since I saw them.

Here’s is an interesting sidenote with Kentucky flavor: Marques Warrick, a grad transfer for Missouri, is from Lexington, a graduate of NKU and Henry Clay High School’s all-time leading scorer. He entered the 2024-25 season with 2,246 career points in collegiate competition – the most among active players in the nation. He's a left-handed shooter, averaging 13.5 mpg.

They are REALLY good at home and a matchup nightmare. They're good at home because the shoot a ton of 3s and like most teams that do, they make a lot more in friendly surroundings. They're pretty much like Bama, shoot 3s and drive it straight down your throat to get to the rim. We will really struggle to defend them. If we beat them, it'll be a game with 190+ combined points.

The only thing they do well defensively is try to turn you over. Could be a big problem for us as well.

Butler and Owen must stay out of foul trouble in this one. Next to Bama this will be our toughest road game of year. Can we win sure, would I bet on it no
Good luck with that. The game that meant nothing we had three officials I’ve never heard of a called and great game. Under 2 hrs.
We will get Shows, Adam’s and Ayers for a 63 foul three hour game with 10 monitor trips. Bank it.

They average 82 ppg give up 76.

6 players who play between 23-26 minutes, few others high teens low 20s per game Fairly good depth.

Grill 14 ppg / 43% 3Fg
Mitchell 14 ppg
Bates 13.1 ppg / 41% 3FG
Robinson 9.1 ppg
Perkins 8.1 ppg
Pierce 7.1 ppg.

Have shot 815 free throws, opponents have shot 588.
Average 10.7 turnovers per game, opponents 14.3

Yeah you don’t want to zone Missouri unless you want to lose by 30-35 points. Not only can they shoot at every single position they also are physical and will destroy you in the boards.
I'm with ya. What do we do to slow them down?
Mix up defenses? Attack down low with Williams?
Rebound for limiting their 2nd chances.
Gonna be a tough game.

Run them off the line and hope to make their attempts at the rim tough, but we aren't great at that either. Honestly, the best chance is we just absolutely shoot the lights out of it or hope they don't. They're 18-1 at home for a reason.

I don’t think you can take away everything from them. Their offense is too dynamic like ours. You might see us play the percentages and try to bait their bigs into taking deep shots. You don’t want them working the ball around for the guards to get hot. You really hope you can make Mitchell beat you with jumpers but that’s easier said than done. I don’t love the idea of trying to beat Missouri by going inside for postups on a regular basis either. That lowers your PPP unless you are unbelievably efficient and we won’t be able to keep pace. We have to make threes in this game.

These are the type of underdog games where UK usually steps up. I’m now on the side that UK leaves with W.
