For general interest, reference, comments and discussion, here are the average minutes and other per game statistics for the prior season. We certainly have quite a bit of experience coming in next year.
With the possibility of additional portal signees, minutes will be at a premium, as the seven (7) veterans signed so far totaled 193.0 per game last year, while combining for 76.0 points and 32.6 rebounds.

You are amazing.

You are amazing.
Thanks for the kind words, but what will be amazing to me is how Pope and staff will distribute 200 minutes of playing time each game. Veteran players, used to playing, will simply have to play less than they are accustomed to, sacrificing for the good of the team. Scarcity of minutes will increase with the addition of portal signees that are still being sought. Chaz Lanier and Jaxson Robinson played 33 and 26 minutes per game last year, respectively … for example.,

With the serious competition for minutes, I predict the energy level on the floor will be extremely high at all times. The intensity, especially on defense, should be phenomenal.

I suspect Pope will play a lot more players than Cal did especially. I would be surprised to see anyone over 25 min a game unless there was foul trouble, injury, matchup issues or just lack of depth at a key position. I figure he will probably sell most of these guys on 20ish minutes of playing time per game, but at a very high level of intensity. If they are pressing hard on defense and running a very complex motion offense most players will need to rest anyways to keep it at peek execution.

Nice work, ppg are a lot higher though. Total comes out to 76ppg.

Very promising considering many in this group are known for defensive prowess.

I hope your prediction becomes reality!

I think we will add one more high level guy (Robinson?) and play 8 guys most of the minutes this season.

Perry and Chandler will be brought along slowly and I think he will bring in one more deep bench guy (Lohner?) and call it a roster.

200 minutes divided by 8 is 25 minutes each. A couple of those guys may play closer to 30 and a couple may play closer to 20, of course. Guys 9-11 rarely see the floor.

That’s the only way to keep everyone invested. As we saw with Williams last week, guys want minutes and the more guys we add, the more they know they have to share.

We have room for one more impact guy, IMHO. After that guys will start to question how they can get their minutes. Some will say that is being selfish and petty, but anyone who has played sports knows you want your playing time. Especially if you are an upperclassman and use to starting and playing tons of minutes.

8 high quality guys and 3-4 bench warmers who are happy with mop up minutes and ready to go in case of injuries. That’s the right ratio, IMHO.

This my simple mind comprehends more than the other complicated numerical stats. We need PF and maybe a combo 2-3 guy that can give us productive minutes

If Pope does what he has been doing we will play a total of 10 or 11 guys every game (unless injury). I think if you look he has 2 or 3 with 10 or less minutes and the rest getting the other minutes.

That's pretty good and impressive on paper.

IMO,,,,,

Krissa- starting point

2 of these 3 at the next 2 positions....Butler, Oweh, Brea That's tough, but I'd go with Butler & Brea. What if Robinson signs?

2 of these 3 at the forward/center positions....Williams, Carr, Garrison. I think Williams and Carr would fit best in Pope's system.

So,

Krissa
Butler
Brea
Carr
Williams

I believe that's the older guys too. But, as others have stated Pope will use his bench more. Heck we may even get to see the walkons more than a handful of times this year.

If we don’t add anyone else of significance, I think this is the rotation we will see (with estimated minutes):

G Butler(25)/Kriisa(15)
G Kriisa(10)Chandler(15)/Perry(10)/Brea(5)
G Brea(20)/Oweh(20)
F Carr(25)/Garrison(10)/Oweh(5)
F Williams(25)/Garrison(15)

Not a bad squad, but adding a guy like Robinson would really help. And we could use another body inside. Three guys at the 4 and 5 probably won’t cut it. If there’s a significant injury we are really short handed inside and would have to go significantly smaller than we would normally want to.

You are correct. 76.0 is the total. I had a programming error in my spreadsheet. I edited the original post.
THANK YOU for the correction. GO CATS !!

Add Achor Achor and we are set.

Extremely efficient stretch 4 that is used to playing under 30 minutes a game

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 16.1 PPG (59% FG & 34% 3PT), 6.1 RPG, 1.8 BPG in only 22.7 minutes per game! (Samford subs frequently)
Sounds perfect for us if we can get him.

I’d love to have Achor, if he is willing to split minutes with Carr and Carr is okay with sharing the spot with him. If they are both good with going from 30 minutes a game to 20 minutes a piece, then that’s the perfect scenario. It’s hard to imagine both of them accepting less minutes in their final year of eligibility. But if they are, then that’s a great scenario for us.
