Minnesota 5-7 bowl bid

I don’t think there is any correlation between getting extra practices and number of transfers.

You misunderstand. Not making bowl games and not making specific games both cause more transfers. People want to meet goals. Players want more exposure. Your team not being bowl eligible reduces your exposure.

That’s just isn’tcorrect. It shows the popularity of college football. Online sports gambling became legal in 2018. I looked up the TV ratings for the 2015 college bowl season. There were 39 bowl games on national TV.

All 39 had over 1 million viewers
35 had over 1.5 million viewers
29 had over 2 million viewers
22 had over 3 million viewers

I watch any game that’s on TV. I don’t bet. It’s just a fact that college football is insanely popular and people will watch even the worst of the bowl games.

It's just bad take after bad take for people that don't really like college football. I don't know why they even post in the football threads. It's pretty clear that many have zero attention span unless someone scores every 30 seconds.

One bowl that actually bit the dust was the Bluebonnet Bowl which I believe was played in Houston. Back then there maybe 14-15 bowl games; now I believe it’s 41 (?) (!).
Yep. I forgot about Bluebonnet Bowl. Back then we would have one Bowl game in the evening the week leading up to New Years and then it was like a New Years feast on New Years Day. I remember setting one TV on top of another because Orange Bowl and Sugar were at same time. Cotton was always first Bowl and Rose was always in the afternoon.

Way too many. It’s ridiculous honestly. Nobody watches these crap bowls.
Watch the ratings if you don’t watch the bowl lol . A crappy bowl or a game between 2 7/7 NFL teams will be double the viewership of anything else on tv that day .

When half of America is on social media all day, I guess it makes sense that they will also watch crappy football games. These people need to get a hobby…I hear pickleball is fun.

-I watch nearly every UK men's basketball game... had season tix for years, traveled to NYC and such to support the team.

^this doesn't change the fact that CBB is a niche sport that only thrives outside of March/April in a handful of markets.

^doesn't change my Fandom. I still love uk bball.

The other Saturday more watched UCLA-Boise mediocre bowl than top 10 CBB historic North Carolina-Kentucky matchup

If they didn't get good ratings ESPN would kill some. Because they own and show virtually all bowl games. But they are watched, even replays, so they ain't going away.
I surprised so many people wanna watch 2 terrible teams play so bad.

Yeah, I don’t get the. “Too many” bowl crap. There are only 3 games that mean anything really. Do you all want to cancel all the other bowls? The lessor bowls are a reward for teams and fans. No one is forced to watch them. Plus, you get the extra practice. It means something!
Hold it right their my friend.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ It does mean something.

Not enough 6-6 or better teams field bowl slots.

Minn's PJ Fleck was a red hot coach a few years ago but he's struggled of late. Have to think '24 has to be better for him to survive.
They were 9-4 the previous two seasons. Good grief, we’re talking about Minnesota. What do they expect?

I will have a lot of the lower ones on at least for background noise.
V-Tech vs Tulane is a helluva lot better then watching Judge Judy reruns.
The all star games was the same way. The North vs South and the East-West Shrine game was the only 2 games. Now, several, everybody is a all star lol.

I can remember where there was like 12 bowl games. You had to have a pretty darn good season to get an invite.

If sponsors are willing to foot the bill it’s not changing any time soon.

Yep 8 wins most likely got you a bowl but 7 wasn't sure, and we only played 10 games. After last game fans, coaches, players, everyone with 7 wins would be sweating it out. The 4 big bowls and a handful of minor bowls.

We will disagree on the extra 10ish days of practice. Between guys leaving (Leary, Davis, Phillips, Wallace, etc.) getting a lot of reps to prepare for the game and a lot of guys not here yet (Dumas-Johnson, Trayanum, Vandagriff, Cottrell, etc), I just believe it’s an often overstated importance of playing in a bowl game.

Because football doesn't mean much to you. We get it. You don't have to tell us over and over again. You're a checkers man.
👌 sure buddy, enjoy that USC Louisville game without Caleb Williams. I’m sure that’s gonna be a barn burner. I’m not even sure what you’re taking about, I’ve never said one thing about not liking football and I’ve heard you use that phrase about 10 times now. Get some new material.

Which is the way it should be honestly. 8 wins in a major conference should be the barometer for a bowl game. Especially with how many gimme games teams play outside conference.

So many states having legalized betting is one of the only reasons these game have “good” ratings, IMO. No normal human being turns on Miami(OH) and App State, etc. just to watch.
That and people will just have it turned on in the background because they’d rather have that than regular tv, but they aren’t really paying attention to it either. Part of the holidays thing. I’ve had may of these games on the screen without really knowing what’s going on and I check the score 3x a game

LOL

Yes I'm having a very fun night! OJ Simpson ain't enjoying what the Trojans are doing to Louisville more than me!!

Imagine someone choosing to not watch this or any other bowl game. Obv not a CFB fan, at all.

On to the 2nd half of my happy entertaining evening!!

42-28 Trojans in the 4th! What a fun entertaining night! Sure glad I've got this to watch instead of crap basketball!

Yet you have a Rick Pitino profile picture. I’m calling BS. I like college football, but I don’t call watching half the team sit out a good game. It’s not good for the game at all. USC had 25 guys opt out and still beat UofL. That’s insane.
