Miles Bridges to MSU

How on earth would you know who Cal liked better, or who Izzo liked better for that matter?

You guys got a good player from Flint. We got Wenyen. The difference is that we aren't so insecure that we need to go to an MSU board seeking validation.

They are both talented. At this point, how can anyone really know which one is better? And why does it matter?
Everyone wants UK's attention...

This is MSU fans' chance to get some attention from UK/UK fans and they're not gonna pass it up.

Question for the MSU fans in this thread. When Gabriel committed to UK, how many UK fans were on an MSU board thumping their chest like some of you are doing here?

Kentucky got a decent fallback player, but he's nowhere near Bridges' level.
Why can't you be a good sport like your buddy? Even if they weren't comparably ranked on the big lists (which they are), what makes you want to come over here and be childish about it?
We're not rivals. Our coaches are friends. We have no animosity towards you.

We needed Bridges to win a natty. You guys are a recruiting juggernaut and will land another 5 star.

Hopefully we meet up next year...UK hoops fans I've met in person are great.

If you need to him to win a title, then you've got a small window, since he is expected to be OAD. I am curious to see if the rest of your great recruiting class will be ready to win it all next season.

Congrats to MSU. Bridges is an awesome pick up.

I will say that I'm interested in how his development will turn out. Last time a 6'6, top 10 SF prospect from Flint had to choose between UK and Michigan State, he chose UK, played in the national championship game, and got drafted just outside the lottery, all in one year.

Best of luck to Miles.

Wenyen will be the higher rated player when all said and done. When UK and Duke goes all out for a player you know that player is special. In my opinion you don't pick a school because of your best friend he cost himself several millions of dollars .

This.

Was Gabriel considering MSU?

I thought he was a UK and Duke battle. Why would UK posters thump their chests on a program's board that wasn't involved in a player's recruitment? That just seems strange.

it'll be fun to watch UK and MSU play next season! They do play next year right? Champions Classic?

News flash. We weren't on the Duke board either.

I have a TON of respect for Izzo he is my favorite non UK coach. But let's keep it real I fully anticipate him struggling to manage a lot of freshmen talent. Cal's singular greatest ability is his management of elite talent and getting them to sacrifice and fully buy into the team concept. Izzo is going to need more patience then at any point in his coaching career. I expect him to figure it out but don't act like it's easy to manage a lot of talented freshmen.

Well that's a big ol false.

Cal didn't really even ramp up the Gabriel recruitment until Bridges started looking like someone that may end up turning UK down. Cal thought he had Bridges for months, Bridges goes on MSU official and word leaks that MSU may have taken over UK, Cal goes to see Gabriel a couple times within a few days, Gabriel has official UK visit, Cal decided Gabriel is a pretty good "fallback" and accepts that Bridges is likely choosing MSU and that's how the Gabriel recruitment ended so quickly.

Not saying Cal didn't want or covet Gabriel. He clearly did. But he was on Bridges longer and harder (haha) back when he was barely recruiting Gabriel.
Respectfully disagree with parts of this. If cal just went hard after Wenyen after the MsU official then why would Wenyen know he was going to Kentucky for the past month? Now for the first part I can agree Bridges was obviously his first target until Wenyen blew up.

Hey kufan, u know anything about what bam adebayo might do?

Somebody said in another thread he might commit to nc state soon, and if not uk may have a chance.

Also, any info on Kobi Simmons?

Appreciate u sharing ur knowledge.

Spears is a good poster but he is also guilty of believing all the stuff on the boards and buying it as gospel. Idk, who Cal coveted the most a month ago so I won't even dare a guess much less make a proclaimation like Spears did. However, Gabriel blew up this summer so I don't think the who he was on the longest matters if one explodes after the other was already on the radar. It is sort of funny that Spears always advises others to temper their excitement based on what DaveKersey posts because in his(Spears)words Kersey's posts are just his opinion from reading tea leaves rather than insider info but then Spears turns around and posts in absolutes like it is known fact when it is just his(Spears)perception.I think both coaches are happy. However, if MSU fans want to come over here and have a dick measuring contest with UKwhen it comes to recruiting then they will find themselves much like the Spartan ladies disappointed and unfulfilled.

I love Izzo, Cal and him are buds. Find it funny that Izzo said he could not coach the one and dones last year and he did not like that. He changed his tune real quick, pretty eye brow raising comments last year that Izzo had to call Cal and apologize. Funny how one talks out of both sides. I bet Cal was first with a text to Izzo saying congrats etc.. or when he signed Ulis he probably texted Izzo saying he was sorry. He probably told Bridges that if he did not go to UK than Izzo would be great coach. I really believe Cal would have.

If UK gets Marcus Monk and Fox than all will be forgotten, Bridges is not as good as Monk, Monk is on a different plane and level.

I think Izzo is like the Nick Nolte character in Blue Chips, he wanted to do his way but finally relented and got with program even though publically Nolte and Izzo said they did not like the one and dones and would not coach them or could not see him coaching the 1 and dones.

I like Tom but these back handed comments he made last year to Cal are not truthful.
I would root for Izzo and MIch. St over just about any team out there.
You beat me to it.
I'm now going to have to check Michigan State fans off the list of fans that will continue to hate UK because of the one and done players we bring in. I live and work amongst MSU fans in Lansing/East Lansing and Flint, they all have been telling me ever since our 2010 team that Cal is poisoning CBB and Izzo would never take one year kids. Well the problem with that is Izzo HAS been recruiting them, he just wasn't getting them.

I just don't think this is a good fit, I don't think Izzo has the style or the mindset to give a 1 and done what the kid is expecting.

Doesn't matter. My point still remains the same. Let's pretend for a minute it does matter. How many UK fans do you think went to a Duke message board to thump their chest about Gabriel?

So you guys landed a recruit, congrats. By the way MSU fans are acting, though, you'd think this is the first 5* recruit to ever choose MSU.

And to be completely honest, although I don't speak for everyone here, but I'm sure most would agree to some extent, once Gabriel committed and whores for scorers broke, Bridges was somewhat of an afterthought.

UK did not start recruiting Gabriel for any other reason than he blew up May-July. And that is when they offered.

You could argue they like MB a little more, but even that is not known.

Almost every outlet has been documenting how hard Cal's been working for the Bridges commitment. Don't underplay it just because he snubbed us.

Always hilarious to see the different reactions from fans when a player commits to a different school. Tones change QUICK.
I agree had he commited to kentucky some wouldn't be commenting like that.

Not calling you out, I am just curious, what did your sources say about Gabriel to UK, since they said Gabriel to Maryland?

Are they still feeling good about Jackson?

Like I said, not calling you out, just curious about your sources and their reaction to all this.

Bridges has been better longer.

Gabriel is coming on now.

I contend that both programs got a helluva player, however. That said, MSU got their guy for completely different reasons than UK. If MSU fans are seeking some type of written equivalency from UK fans as far as program levels go, they've ignoring the obvious reasons they finally landed a five star. Program pedigree (including NBA reputation) was more likely the case with Gabriel than it was with Bridges.

That's not snide. That's just reality. UK and MSU are exponentially different programs.

At the end of the day we are Kentucky and they are MSU , getting a single player from their own state won't change that . Lose a 5* , sign a 5* .

Wenyen could've picked UK whenever he wanted once the offer was there. UK would've taken him. It doesn't mean they wanted him more. Bridges was Cal's primary wing target since at least late winter. That doesn't prove anything. Shit, Cal basically threw a token offer at Kyle Wiltjer 4 years ago and dude committed without ever even visiting. I'd venture a guess he never talked to Cal personally more than 3-4 times before that.

Pretty obvious that Cal has been after Bridges longer. Still, impossible to say who Cal wanted the most as of a month ago.

Who cares. At some point UK wanted Mudiay more than Ulis. UK was better off not getting the guy they wanted more. You can have Bridges and our team will take it's chances next year with Gabriel. Kudos to Izzo on the commitment.

while true at face value, I think one could also make an educated guess based on the amount of time spent watching/stalking Miles Bridges this past summer vs. Gabriel. Cal didn't miss a Bridges game during the live period.

Fair enough. But that could also be spun that he already felt better about landing Wenyen and felt like he had more work to put in on Bridges.

Ultimately, only Cal knows. Gun to my head, I would say he really wanted both.

I think as fans, we covet that prototype 3 because they have been few and far between. Maybe Cal feels exactly the same, but maybe it's us reading the tea leaves and projecting.

pretty funny looking back huh?
Sadly funny when I think back of preferring Chain. Felt much better when I saw the flyer for his signing party doh.

I always think of Cal when William Munny says "when it comes to killing, I've always been lucky"

Gabriel is a prototype Cal recruit. Rim protecting and putbacks. Better version of the Dozier kid at Memphis.

Gabriel is our guy, Bridges is better right now but Wenyen has much more upside and may even surpass Bridges in the rankings before next year.

Cal may very well have favored Gabriel in the last couple of months, we really don't know for sure. Its also hard to call a 5 star player a backup plan, both are really good prospects.

In the end, we will never really know how it really played out.

And it doesn't matter, both programs get a great player.

We already did, Gabriel will play some 3 and we will have Matthews. What we need now is guards, we are looking pretty good in the front court.

Gabriel is expected to play the 3 for us. He has the skills to play the 3, even though he is 6'10. He has a nice jumper with 3 point range.

Its impossible to know which player Cal wanted more. Cal recruited Bridges the hardest, but that was before Gabriel blew up and has become a much better player over the summer than last summer. When we say this, it doesn't mean Cal wouldnt have still liked Bridges to Kentucky. Of course he would. These 2 kids could have switched from 3 to 4 everytime down the court. That would have been a coach's dream lineup. I still feel Bridges is the better player at this moment, but with Gabriel being 6'10, he has so much more upside to the NBA long term. Some will think well Cal recruited Bridges harder so that has to mean he wants him more. No, not really. That means Bridges has been the better player the longest but with Gabriel getting so much bettter over the summer, that might not be the case today.
