This guy was quoted extensively in the LHL this AM. Nothing new but confirms what many have said on this site - 2015 is a critical year to maintain momentum to build Kentucky's program.

Flippers

To be fair, Farrell, pointed to UK's losing streak as the main factor and the Alabama commit as a secondary influence.

I pretty much agree with the assessment made by Farrell especially the part about UK going to a bowl next year being a must for the program to continue to have upward mobility. The time for talk is over the time for action has begun. One can speculate about what effect the Harris fiasco had on UK recruiting but it no doubt had some effect. There is no doubt that there would be a better situation if he had signed with UK.

Count me among them. There is no evidence Harris influenced any of them. We lost 7 so far and 5 of them were in the process of decommitting before Harris' decision. The other 2 flipped to a Big 10 title contender. The article by the way doesn't really state that Harris influenced the decisions of other recruits. It just states that if he came here it would have prevented some of them which is a different thing. The article also mentions the 6 straight losses which I believe is a much bigger issue.

As far as I recall, and I admit I have a fuzzy memory, I don't remember a non-probationary time when so many guys flipped on UK. I think it's unprecedented. Do know it'll be interesting to get Stoops take. To me it's pretty simple....win some freakin' games.

I think its a multitude of things, including the losing skid, Harris spurning us, Big 10 resurgence, no longer have the selling point of immediate playing time; and maybe a few others.

We do it too. Eli Brown and Chris Westry flipped to Kentucky after being committed to other schools. Last year, Ware, Tubman, and Krok flipped to us and no one complained. Stoops is still recruiting Josh Smith, who is committed to Vandy, and AD Miller, who de-committed from Illinois the day after Shannon Dawson visited him. Some people might feel better if we blame Harris for the Kennedy assassination. But Harris can only sign 1 scholarship. His own. When you recruit at this competitive level, there will be good weeks and bad weeks. Just have to hang tough and move ahead.

Do you remember a time when UK recruited so many high profile players?

Never in my lifetime. This staff is killing it even with the flips. When all is said and done this class is going to be in good shape. It illustrates how poorly previous staffs recruited.

The reason you don't recall that many guys flipping on UK, is because we haven't been recruiting these high caliber recruits at UK, so we were most likely their best offer. It's a whole lot different when you are competing with OSU, Bama, Mich. State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and the rest of the SEC for recruits, that it is when you're competing for players with MAC and SunBelt teams.

Most of these recruits de-committing has no ties to Ky except through the coaches. I'm sure it has ran through some of their minds that if we can't get the best recruit in the state that is only 25 miles down the road, then why should they commit.

That being said, losing your last six games in a row when you knew you had a bowl game on the line also comes into play.

It's like UK in basketball. Very few recruits stay home when they can come to a program like UK's.

I still think UK has enough talent to win more games this coming year. Maybe this class will not be as strong from a star ranking view, but a lot of last years class redshirted so they will essentially be in their first year playing wise but a little stronger and adapted to college life.

Brooks never recruited that many highly ranked kids but still got UK to bowl games. I think Stoops will too. The difference is that Stoops and his staff are going after the higher ranked kids and getting some. I think this continues and they will be able to get over the hump eventually and become able to go toe to toe with the traditional powers.

Despite what some may think about my POV on UK football, I think that Stoops has the opportunity to be really special here. He has proven he can recruit, but now he has to prove he can coach as well, so that his ability to recruit can be maximized. If he starts winning on the field, then you will see Kentucky's recruiting really take off.

The flips are a product of recruiting good players. UGA has now had 5 flips in their class. The key is getting the next best guy.

I think Harris choosing UK would've helped with Dowell's but Hamilton was going to OSU regardless and Dinson is probably at AU regardless.

What Farrell said is pretty much what I said in the thread yesterday.

What Harris could have done is committed to UK in the early fall and helped recruit other top players in the country. When he never committed and was waiting forever I knew that it wasn't good. I don't think he was ever coming here btw if he was he would of come early and we would have been able to get on many other good recruits because good players want to play with other good players. If your a top notch recruit you go ahead and commit and do your best to drag others with you to UK.

This, I really agree with every thing I have seen you post on here about this issue. Most people forget how Barker really helped us out last year by getting kids to commit and helping to hold the class together. Not a fan of the whole BB gun charade or beating the piss out of people but he's a Kentucky kid who stayed home when he didn't have to and is trying to change the perception of the program, and well he is a kid, most people forget these players are kids.

BTW watched Harris play a few times and while I was impressed I still think there's the potential he could be a wash. 1. He never played against the talent in state that he will play against in the SEC week to week, 2. He seemed to get hurt a lot when teams really started to hit him, 3. He will be playing against lineman at the college level who can and will catch him.
