Might be easier to keep track of

it is happening at almost every school
wait until teams lose in the playoffs and watch what happens
Wow, wouldn’t it be great to have a team in the playoffs, then worry about attrition? Instead, the shit sandwich delivered here is 4-8 - I’m so excited I shall’nt sleep tonight!

One part of me hates the portal. HATES IT! But another part of me loves it. LOVES IT! I love following recruiting and the portal basically gives us a whole other recruiting class to follow each year. This portal class for us will have to be as big as most normal signing classes of high school prospects. And these guys will fill more immediate needs, making them a higher priority in many regards. It is going to be chaotic to track, but interesting.

The problem I have with the portal is the question of who’s doing the evaluation and then determining if that guys a good fit. We saw it with BV who was a huge miss and a couple of our offensive linemen. It’s also hard to tell if they’re going to be a locker room problem which we apparently had a lot of this year. I see some people bitching about recruiting the OT from WNC but how did the guys from bigger schools work out? Seems like our D guys have worked out though so it seems White has a handle on that side of the ball. Just saying overall there’s a lot more that goes into bringing guys in and getting excited over them based on their hs evaluation or what school they’re coming from.

The system is stupid but for a player it is great. How many 4-5 stars will get paid an inflated number that have done nothing to date? They just bounce around getting paid to do nothing. Avoid those guys the risk far outweighs the reward.

Can’t fall for the eye candy. The evaluation has to start with production. Did they produce at their current school? For example there is a kid for USC that was a 5 star DT that did nothing at USC. He will get paid by someone but his actual production doesn’t justify it. He is one example but it also shows how challenging this evaluation process is for coaches. You really need a department to build a list of players at each position that fits your scheme. Then work behind the scenes if there is common interest. If there is then as soon as they hit the portal be aggressive. Bottom line you better have your list before the portal opens.

This. Bowl season isnt even done yet.

Something needs to be done. If im a coach with nice earnings and smart investment, no way in hell i deal with this. I get out or take a job at a small school. I don't know how they do it.

It's crazy. Much worse than the NFL at this point in terms of free agency. No one's keeping track of who was contacted before they put their names in the portal, or before it opened.

I have no idea how they do it, either.

Tennessee has a LB who is starting now because of injuries who is going into the transfer portal once they are out of the playoffs. He will still start for the Vols next game.

Many of these "transfers" are using the portal to renegotiate their NIL deals. We are in the wild west of NIL right now. TPTB will reign in the madness as time progresses.

Here are the kids I hope we keep at UK

Offense:
RB...Wilcox,Patterson
QB..Boley, Stone Saunders
TE: I'd love to get Anderson back, Rodriguez....never got the Kattus hype and with his brother bailing...get Anderson back in fold
WR: Gilmore for sure, Maclin, I'd like Dane back but if he's a jerk teammate....then so be it.
OL: Malachi Wood, Aba Selm for sure.
Koby Keenum....coach the kid up for pete sake
Jaylen Farmer
Marc Nave
Austin Ramsey
Johnson Hayes
To be honest......we are lacking in Oline bodies for some reason. So keep the Oline recruits in place

Defense:
Dline: Saunders, Kendrick Gilbert, Brian Robinson, Jerod Smith, Gadsen are huge to keep in the fold
Keeping the HS recruits like Works, Campbell and Kalen Edwards, etc in the fold
LB: I'd love to get Fearby back....he's a talnted young edge rusher IMO.
Steve Soles, Godfrey, Javont Brown, Alex Afari, etc...
DB: Nichols is huge to keep, Nassir Addison, JQ Hardaway, Waller, Ty Bryant, Cam Dooley, etc...

I feel UK has a good young base of talent to build (but we have to keep these kids and get back to developing much better). I always thought 2025 was going to dip a bit and we'd build back from there.

But I'd be very wary of grabbing up just any old guys from portal that will piss off these aforementioned kids to leave. We did this same thing and ran off good players like Deondre Buford in addition to we've just did a crap job of player development. You go grab a QB that may not be here for more than 1 year....then Boley and Saunders start to look to go elsewhere. Same at the Oline spots, WR, etc... So it's a mess to keep on track.

So the root of UK future is getting back to developing players in all spots of the team and for once...find a way to develop a HS QB into a collegiate QB (which Stoops has never done).

Pretty much where I'm at right now, with maybe a few players missing off of your list.
