U-M warns Big Ten about punishment precedent
Michigan has responded to the Big Ten's notice of disciplinary action, and a source told ESPN that likely penalties would focus on coach Jim Harbaugh.

A couple of takeaways that showed me just how desperate Michigan is to defer punishment to a later date.
They used the tired old excuse that UL and UT always use when they get caught doing wrong. "Everyone is doing it, it's not that serious"
The school solicited the help/support of their local politicians to wait and not ruin their perfect little season. Why are politicians even involved? Don't they have plenty to worry about up there without jumping in to the sports arena?
This one doesn't bother me personally but comes off as tone deaf in today's environment. Michigan in response to the Big 10 said they intend to fight if the Big 10 acts prematurely. "They won't be bringing a knife to a gun fight" seems like a stupid analogy to make for a public university. Especially after all of the pearl clutching they did after the fight in the tunnel last year with MSU.
