Almost pulled a 2007 Michigan. I didn't watch the game but I'm guessing they don't stay ranked in the top 10 long if they could only beat Western Michigan 37-24

Western was picked off in the end zone with a,couple of minutes left. MSU did not impress.

I wouldn't read too much into early games. If I'm not mistaken Ohio State had a poor opener last season then lost their second game...and that turned out alright.

They were up 34-10 in the 3rd when I went to bed, sounds like they coasted from there.

That's right. Ohio State was a good example. A lot of other examples have shown how misleading openers can be. College football teams are generally developed to be fully ready for their 1st conference game. Lots of strange things can happen in openers, but they do not always predict the future.

They probably looked better than Baylor and TCU. It's the first game of the season. Not much to take away other than getting the win.

Western Michigan's Fleck is on the fast track to a power 5 school. He will not be in Kalamazoo long.

Heard them say that Michigan St. Has 25 seniors on the team this year. That is unreal that you would basically have an entire recruiting class in your senior class. Now some could be juco transfers and 5th year seniors, but still impressive, and a big reason they will be very good this year.

It would be a mistake to judge MSU by this game. It would also deny how MSU is designed. They are not Baylor or Oregon where they go out and just hang 60 on a week sister. And, I would not discount WMU. The Broncs have had some above average teams over the years.

I'm not sure how 37-24 is in anyway better than 56-21, but I'll give you better than TCU.

Large senior classes is what you strive for, means you have mature experienced players. I recall several years ago a NC Penn St team had an unreal 36 seniors. To compare, UK this year has like 16 seniors, next year 13. I really don't recall the last time UK had over 20 seniors(too lazy to look it up).

Hope UK can build a strong RS program. Unfortunately, UK's forced to play really young LBers this year who should be RSed.

Baylor SMU was 28 - 21 at halftime and as late as four minutes left in the third quarter. 1-11 last year SMU.

Michigan State was 27-10 at halftime and even 34-10 at one point after that. Against a team that went 8-5 last season.

Michigan State was much more in control of their game. Don't let what third team players did color the better performing team.

I don't think Sparty was too excited for this game with the Ducks on next deck week.

No doubt that is what you strive for. Miss St last year had a senior dominated team if I recall. It's definatly not the norm in today's college football landscape because of players leaving after 3 years to the NFL, but man, if you can get a senior class with those numbers, your chance of having a special year goes up dramatically.

It will take UK about 5-6 years to get anywhere near those numbers due to the attrition from Jokers players.

We should have a similar thread for Oregon after its game last night agains an FCS team. Or, we should realize it is week one.
