Michigan State in a dogfight

Q4 loss on opening night. (May not be but....who knows that's a long way off)
If James Madison is even 60% as good as they played last night they should contend in their conference. No clue who returned but they had some talent, they went 22-11(12-6) in the Sun Belt last year. 2 games out of first place. One of the better
smaller conference schools I’ve seen in a bit. They had legit play makers and played defense well.

Yeah, but that's still a bad loss for Izzo. They're ranked fourth in the country. You have to win that game, especially at home.

This will impact MSU’s seed all year. JMU was #136 pregame.

Quad 3 loss at home

Never understood their consensus top 5 ranking. At all.

They did this to MSU back in like 2017.. They lost like 15 games the year prior, but returned everyone and added Jaren Jackson.. so naturally, people thought they were a top team. And sure, they did pretty well, but they played a pretty easy schedule with almost no ranked opponents in the Big10. Sure enough, they lose in the 2nd round to 11-seeded Syracuse.

Speaking of Tennessee Tech, how is Pelfrey still there?
Decent salary, minimal expectations, access to Nashville without actually being in Nashville......plus they keep a "big" name coach (Played for UK, part of Pitino legacy, was a coach in a P5 conference) But yeah, he's not a very good coach.

Record at TT:

40–81 (.331)

Overall Record:
180–204 (.469)

The man has had a grand total of FOUR winning seasons as a HC.

Pretty sweet gig.
I'm not talking about from his side. He is 41-83 as of today with no winning seasons. Tenn Tech isn't the mecca of basketball but they would have to want better results than that.

Its Izzo, his team don't win beauty pageants.I would rather watch paint dry from a Walmart parking slot

Got it on that action late...I'll take it.

JMU has a nice athletic program. Football team is almost always competitive.

They are quickly becoming one of my Top 3-5 teams to pull for. We visit that area nearly every year for Fall break, just there weeks ago. Fan base very supportive.
They’re really good, they have two guards on the perimeter who are shifty and fast and can consistently beat their man off the dribble. Number 13 for them was cooking MSU in the second half. Im like you I will be following them all year

Izzo teams are exactly like stoops in football. When they have preseason hype and the media starts loving them, they underperform, but when they have a chip on their shoulder and people are ignoring them they rise up and prove them wrong

Funniest thing about this loss for Mich St is that Tennessee fans were bragging about beating the Spartans as if they had just won the Final Four. You gotta laugh at that.

Now, I'm not saying Mich St won't eventually be pretty good- Spartans have always had slow starts to seasons and improved over time- but it's clear they're not all that great at the moment.

UT is always like this. Look like absolute world beaters in the early season....might even be dang good come February.....always fizzle out come March.

State is definitely overrated early on, but they shot a terrible 5% from three - that's hard to do. If just a couple more go in, they win, even if it is an embarrassingly close win.
