mgbako rumor

Listening to all the negativity regarding Mgbako, it’s easy to forget that Oscar was essentially run off from West Virginia by Huggins. How’d that work out for us? A change of scenery may do the kid well, who knows. So just trust the staff.
What? Huggins was extremely butthurt about losing Oscar

There are people on this board who have watched much more Indiana than me so I'll defer to them but Mgbako seems to struggle with motor and defense and I wouldn't exactly say his reputation is that of a dawg. And his high school recruiting ranking means very little to me considering it's maybe the worst high school class in the last 20 years. Aaron Bradshaw was ranked ahead of him. Should we bring him back too?

On the most recent coaches show Pope said this is what he's looking for in someone in the portal:
1) High character
2) Shooting
3) decision making
4) Motor + length
5) Physicality

Mgbako has maybe 1 or 2 of those checked?

A bunch of rebounding records but a first round loss to a 15 seed

The game in which he had 30 points on 11/16 shooting, 16 boards, 2 steals, 2 blocks? Yeah he really blew that one. Totally his fault. Not the coach or the rest of the team at all.
Not saying Oscar wasn’t a hell of a player. He was.
Yep, and a National Player of the Year. Do you blame Oscar for that loss?
Of course not. My post obviously reads like I am blaming Oscar, but I am not.

I’m still sore over that loss is all. That was a good team that deserved better

If this kids signs, he's going to divide the Kentucky fan base until he either shuts up the critics or proves to be a bust.

Put me down on the side of the debate that believes he has the size, athleticism and talent to be a major contributor, as reflected in his Top Ten high school recruiting ranking and flashes I've seen watching Indiana, who was wrecked by horrific coaching at IU. I will welcome him if he wants to be a Wildcat. Give it until January, and if he is a Cat and has proven a bust, I'll come here and admit I was wrong. I hope the bashers will do the same if they are wrong.

No debate in the real fan base. A lot of fake garbage slanted toward a negative slant. Most fans believe in Coach Pope and trust in him and our assistant coaches. I just dont see any real problems that is not made up.

The real fan base everyone. Only the real fan base believes in Pope and completely trust him without understanding it’s OK to be critical. Popes a big boy. Only the real fans though.. the real ones.

Big fan of Pope, but I hope the rumors of Mgbako's imminent commitment are about as reliable as Gwath's were.

I'll happily eat crow if he turns out to be a rockstar, but... Eh?
If you’re a “Big fan of Pope”, why don’t you trust his instincts over your own?

Kind of always been my point with OT. He put up nice numbers, and the team never really did anything. I think, at least in part, due to how his presence hampered both the offense and defense. This is in no way meant as a knock on OT, he just had a very specific skill set that was basically unwavering. If he's your best player (or the focus of your offense), your ceiling isn't nearly as high as it could/should be.

I'd love to know what the staff sees in Mgbako. I've watched a lot of Indiana basketball over the last two seasons and Mgbako never impressed me. He seemed too slow as a three and not physical enough for a four. His lack of effort seemed laughable. In a lot of cases he just seemed lost out there. He can be a shot chucker at times from three as well. Midrange game is decent, but is that the shot you wanna be taking in modern basketball? I'm trying to believe in the staff, but I don't see the vision when it comes to Mgbako.
