I would not be upset as of right now if Stoops made some changes especially if the last 4 games are not good.
Some coaches get more out of less talent.
Some coaches get less out of more talent.
I think the new OC is underachieving with the talent we have

Scang calls a good game. Has really nice concepts. Is good at QB development. He just needs to pare down the complexity. It took coen awhile to get it too.
I think it's obvious his use of multiple tight ends to max protect indicates that he knows the line is very weak. We lost three (3) very good, well-above-average linemen and it has been extremely difficult to replace them, to say the least. Scang is paying the price for their being gone.

It doesn't take a genius to realize to not run the ball with 10 in the box. Or to call screen plays, over and over. There's a reason why he has been place to place and keeps getting relegated back to a QB coach or quality control coach

I get the spirit of your point, but were there REALLY ten (10) in the box ?? I didn't see that. If true, that's an incredible amount of confidence in your single defensive back playing off the line.

Should we keep throwing the ball with a QB that keeps throwing the ball to the other team?

We keep them in because the QB is dreadful at presnap recognition. He can't identify potential blitzers.

I do agree we would be better spreading out and making it more obvious who's walking up to the line

I never saw 10 in the box but 8 on multiple occasions. The O line was not the major problem when 11 of 16 passes are behind the line of scrimmage. As the smart football expert put it: Play calling is just not as good as last year (or something similar). As Adam L. from KSR pointed out UK had a very similar game plan as used against MSU. It was domed from the start. The object of the game is to score more points than your opponent. 17.5 PPG against P5 competition will win very few games.

How can anyone really say that after watching this in SEC play?

1. Levis can't see the field to save his life...so how is that QB development?
2. He calls a good game? We run deep routes that we can't protect long enough or behind the LOS screens. We hardly hit curl routes, slants, etc...Never runs with Levis.
3. Apparently Tenn players were calling our plays out...so he might not even be able to get signals in w/o giving it away.

He appears to be a terrible fit for college.

Time to cut our losses and hire a real OC. Dude has access to best QB, running back and receivers we have had in years and has done nothing.
Hiring a new oc won't change the philosophy of what the HEAD COACH expects his OC to run...you would think that Saturday nights butt whipping would have reexamine what you need to change, but...

Plus...it's almost like the middle of the field is a no fly zone. Bubble screens or fades.

Fans think that Coen was so good, and he was a very good OC for us. No doubt. But he had a little more to work with. Fortner at C, Kinnard at RT. Rosenthal at LT. All three multi-year SEC starters. 2 were drafted. One of those starts for his respective team. While the other was a 2 time All-American. Now throw in Coen’s Cooper Krupp, the record breaking Wan’dale Robinson. And add multi-year starter Josh Ali for good measure. And oh yeah, Justin Rigg started a few years for us as well.

So in summary, you can not compare this year to last year. You just can’t. Now I’m sure some of you disagree, and to those people I’ll point out just one.more thing. Coen’s AllSec, multi-year starter at LG, Horsey, is Scang’s starting LT. A position he has hardly ever played.

This has been a total rebuilding year on offense. Despite having Levis and C-Rod back. Which is kinda amazing when you realize we realistically could be 7-1 right now. Should be 7-1 right now. Scang hasnt been perfect, but considering the hand it was dealt, he hasn’t been that bad. Imo.

Look at the MSU game. He played great. He wasn't capable of anything near that last year.

We run route concepts. Levis always has someone short and medium if he needs it. He just holds the ball.

I'd be surprised if there was truth to this. It takes us 15 seconds to call the play ourselves. If they were stealing signs and communicating it in the same amount of time, it would be quite the impressive feat. Much more likely they smelled blood in the water and dares us to beat them deep.

Let me take it one step further: we'd be a better team if we didn't focus our entire offense around developing Levis for the NFL. If we went back to the one or two reads and run, along with QB read and rpo; we'd be much better.

Everything we've done on offense this year has been for him. Is that fair to the program, fans, and teammates?

Watch some of van hiles cut ups. The middle is there. Levis just wouldn't throw it. He had a really bad game. Stoops on the call in show basically admitted after they got down so much, they were just try to get out of dodge. I hate that mindset. They should've pulled Levis for two series but I'm sure they didn't want to on national tv

And remember how was awful in the Iowa game at LT. I'm really surprised how well he played that position this year. He hasn't been a star but he's been solid which is much more than I expected after the bowl game

Let's see, Ball State scored 10 points, Akron scored 6 points, and Tennessee-Martin scored 24 against Tennessee this year. Each of those "powerhouse" teams had at least 241 passing yards against Tennessee too. Is it safe to say that Scangarello has more to work with than the aforementioned teams?

People just want to make excuses.

I was just pointing out that last year was not this year personnel wise. But hey, Scang could do better. We should have scored at least 21 points against UT. Lol And only threw 2 INT’s.

I’m sick of this being the scapegoat for all the offensive problems. We got manhandled by Miami of Ohio and NIU, our offensive line is better than theirs.

Did that cause his horrible gameplay against UT? He decided to run on a good run defense and not throw downfield on a horrible secondary. Levis had a lot of time in the first half against UT and still no downfield throws.

1. I can't believe we're trying to play up Rigg or Ali as guys we miss. They are just guys that played but neither are better than Bates or Dane Key who replaced them. Every team loses guys....these two guys are not difference makers.
2. Scang/Yenser made the decision to move a good guard to tackle. And Jager Burton has been pretty poor at guard if you ask me. I think the better decision would have been to leave Buford at LT and Horsey at LG and rotate in Burton with Manning/Horsey at guard.

So if you think this year is a rebuild year on offense...what will you call next year w/o Levis, CRod and Horsey, Manning with Tayvion Robinson?

Look what Coen walked into....Beau Allen/Gatewood at QB, Wandale was in the fold but Ali is decent and a bag of nothing at WR. Lost Drake Jackson, Landon Young...moved Fortner to C and worked in Cox at guard. Got Levis here at QB and we had a dang solid offensive season. We are down to 23 pts a game...Coen got us to 32 pts a game...for reference Gran was at 21 pts a game the year he got fired. Scang has screwed the offense all the pieces and we lose our 2 best players next year. Outside of a portal QB like Levis again...we're screwed.

I'll agree, 2023 looks like a very forgetable year. I'm already dreading a likely sub-.500 season.

The lack of a run threat from the QB position is a head scratcher.
Not if you have listed to Scang any at all. He has emphatically stated early and often that he DID NOT WANT WL to take hits in the run game.

Does not want to risk jeopardizing his future pro career.

Scang said early that he was taking QB run game out of the playbook.......and he has.

Well I'm all for guys NFL future...but again, we're here to win for UK.

- Levis is taking more punishment sitting in pocket getting targeted by SEC teams.
- Running him is hits but he is a weapon...so use him.
- Other teams aren't fixated on NFL stuff like Hooker at Tenn....they run their playbook to win and so should we.

Scang is looking less and less like teh answer at OC.

That's foolish. The game still has to be played.

Agreed. Defense might be good but offense I don't have any faith in it at this point. Special teams, that's another one that really has to improve

Scang has the rep as being some kind of QB whisperer but I don't think I've ever seen an OC stifle a QB as much as Scang has Levis. Said yesterday he's turning Levis from a potential NFL first rounder into an arena league backup.

Point blank here is the offensive problem. Scang and company refuse to play to our strengths and continue to try to run a scheme that our players just aren't built for. Instead of tailoring the offense to our players, Scang and company have a vision of what they want the offense to be, and are just saying we're not changing, get better.

I would agree. However, Coen was the first and only OC here that had a fantastic offensive philosophy and scheme. He was not scared to gamble and play balanced football. He had the most consistent best play calling. Used the run to set up the pass, used the pass to set up the run.

I wasn’t playing up Ali and Rigg, just reminding people they’re not here. But feel free to downplay them if you want, but I think it‘s silly to do so. They were both multi-year SEC starters on really good UK teams. Both, though not drafted, got NFL camp invites. Bates never started until Rigg left, and Coen had the luxury of having both, not just Bates. Look, we have talented skill players on this year’s team, but they are woefully inexperienced . True and RS freshman. A big contrast from a year ago. Talented experience matters. Just saying. In fact, if you told me I could have Wan’dale back, but I would have to RS both Brown and Key to have him, I’d do it. Would you?

You bring up leaving Buford at LT. Lol. Have you seen him at RT. Lets just say his not a two time All-American out there. He’s not even Flax out there. He”s definitely not Rosenthal, a talented 2year SEC starter. And btw, I wish we had a six year senior, multi-year starter like Fortner to “plug in” at center. Jesus. Wouldn’t that be nice. Lol.

Now, on to next year. I honestly think we are going to be a better offense next year, no matter who the OC is. Other than C-Rod, we’ll be better at every position. A year’s experience being the main contributor to this. A lot of talented young players back. And as good as Will is, 13 tds to 8 int, I feel we can get equal or even better production in the portal. I know that sounds crazy, lol, but I think it’s certainly possible. We could have 5 new starters on the OL, and I still think we could be better. That’s how bad our OL play has been this year. And I think Hall, Rodriguez, and Goodwin are definitely more talented than what we have now.

Should we keep throwing the ball with a QB that keeps throwing the ball to the other team?

That’s an easy fix-just tell him to start throwing to the other team. Now see how easy that was lol
