Matt Jones: "I am told by a very good source that Mark Stoops is staying at Kentucky"

Maybe Stoops saw video of the Midnight Yell and decided he didn't want to be a part of that weird cult shit. Similar to when Dana Altman bailed out of Fayetteville when they "called the hogs" at his introductory press conference.

Texans don't mess around. I seriously feared for Stoops safety if he took the job.

I hope tonight humbles Stoops a bit and makes him appreciate the top 10 money he gets here to produce....results.
You’re looking at it all wrong. If anything, this can possibly raise the optics of uk football. Any publicity is good publicity and all weekend everyone has been told that stoops has value. I’d say stoops face appeared online more times today than when he was hired here

Spin it baby. Stoops looks like a moron.

We aren't gonna magically out recruit uga, Bama, UT, Florida, auburn, lsu, a and m, Texas and OU. Stoops also isn't better than kiffin and Missouri coach may have something too.

This makes stoops look bad not good and Kentucky and A&M look bad as well

It didn’t exactly work out for Greg Schiano when Tennessee revolted his hire. I guess he ended up back at Rutgers eventually, but I don’t see how he benefitted from Tennessee doing pretty much the same thing.

I think it’s going to be an awkward few weeks for Stoops and now we’ve got a delicate situation in the locker room. This could potentially hurt recruiting as well.

It’s gonna be awkward in those team meetings Monday when the coach who actively tried to leave here comes back and acts like everything is fine
I'd say, "did they pony up for you coach?"

This took the wind out of my sail. Had hope for something new and invigorating. Feels like someone tried to buy a car with issues from me and at the last second their wife went off on them and said "you ain't buying that or I'm leaving you." Now I'm back to trying to keep my soon to be 12 year old hooptie running putting additive in it and plugging leaks in the tires hoping it doesn't give me any major problems for another year.

No spin needed. This was a good day for UK football. TAM should have never been after stoops. Pay 76 mil to ax jimbo just to bring in a less successful jimbo understudy? It’s not stoops that looks bad over this. Well, maybe a little. But not as bad as TAM. Shades of Tennessee

He was telling people he was leaving. He was gone. He is here because the boosters and fanbase revolted last minute.

I'm fine with him staying. The optics look bad though.

He's so bad it only took a couple hours for the board to shut it down. Think about that hours not days. Wouldn't shock me if the AD loses his job over the thought of hiring Stoops. This makes UK (Barnhart) look like fools paying a guy nobody wants 9.1 million a year.

As I asked another poster, how do you know he had told people he was leaving? Because you read it on Twitter? Maybe I’m different but I just don’t believe shit that people say online.

Well Stoops is gonna lie about it so if you won't believe media sources then I guess you won't believe anything.

Maybe he wasn’t telling people. We don’t know. Maybe he was. However, most coaching searches don’t have reports saying “XYZ is set to be the next head coach in the next few days or in the morning” to feel things out. It was obviously at least in the advanced stages of the discussion/offer process.

It literally happens almost every time a big job is being filled. This is typical. I’d like to know the percentage of “first out of the gate” names that actually get the job. It’s gotta be low.

Stoops would lie about it but so would A&M if he decided to turn it down. How would it look if “UK’s” Coach turned you down last minute? Not that it matters either way, but I can’t really see A&M’s AD negotiating without the boosters or board knowing. They DGAS about the fans because it’s their money fitting the bill. Both sides look bad.

Ok this coaching carousel, let’s see how many times someone is slated to be announced as the head coach to the point multiple sources are reporting it and the offer falls through. I’m not talking message board “done deals.” 24/7 reported that Stoops accepted the offer. That doesn’t happen a lot. It’s certainly not typical.

Dude. It happens like all the time. For real. This is typical.

The offer fell through? We don’t know about no damn offer. We are getting our news from Twitter.

No it’s not typical. It’s typical for names to get floated around. It’s not typical for multiple reputable sources like Rivals and 24/7 to say an offer is coming and it not happen. Stoops name wasn’t floated around. It was reported that he took the job. If that’s common, no one would ever pay attention to the reports about this stuff.

I mean, this is a terrible look for A&M and Stoops. I still think this ends up hurting UK football in some way
I don't think so if the backroom deal is Stoops HC for another year or two, then Liam takes over.

Easy transition. Next season, he can announce the following season will be his last and that Coen is taking over.

Continuity. Liam gets experience in the college game. They can recruit by selling Liams offense.

He didn’t turn them down, they turned him down!
If true, they would have denied ever making the offer when it was reported that it was.

Otherwise, why let your actual coaching hire think he was a backup plan?

Would be a terrible PR job otherwise.
