Matt Jones and Kyle Tucker are in a Twitter nerd fight

Re: Matt Jones v. Kyle Tucker twitter fight.

Tucker doesn't cover UL athletics so it would be his job but, the same open records laws apply to louisville. All it takes is for someone who cares to make the request.

I think most of Jones' gripe is that the CJ never writes these kinds of stories about UL that could even remotely be viewed in a negative light. The stories on UK spending money on the Bahamas trip wasn't a hit piece. Tucker is right. It was just factual information suggesting more so that the huge amount of money that was spent would potentially be worth it if a title was won in April. It didn't dog or trash UK at all.

Jones is just mad because the CJ seems to protect UL and never writes these kinds of stories about that program.
Because they don't. Ever.

YUM! is a very complicated issue but the bottom line after an incredible amount or research by me and others is this .

The Lease is a joke and was negotiated if you want to call it that by strong UL fans on both sides. They did not care about the State or City/County even though it was their job to do so. The lease is the most favorable for any college in America. It is complicated but the bottom line is Louisville /Jefferson County transfers $9.6 million a year to Yum! which YUM! needs because UL has received grossly unfair payments under the lease .

If UL wants more money from the State or County for their Athletic program they should have to raise it like everybody else rather than scam the taxpayers of Jefferson County out of 9.6 million annually.

This benefits the elite roughly two per cent of Louisville taxpayers who have season tickets and screws the other 98% which includes many UL fans but a majority of citizens who are fans from other schools or folks who don't care about sports.

One of many things that irk me is not only the misuse of tax money (while our mayor a UL fan who is crying broke asking the legislature to allow him to raise more in taxes) But the fact that when a concert is held all of the tickets are sold out before they go on line because UL season tickets holders get the right of first refusal. Also if you buy a Jimmy Buffet T shirt UL gets the bulk of the profit. All this while YUM ! is still asking the City for $9.6 million year.

Through creative bookkeeping they now claim a profit but still ask for the 9.6million from the taxpayers. Really no profit. If a true profit don't ask for the 9.6 million.

And it will get much much worse when they finally start paying the principle on the bonds (now reduced to Junk status) which will add about 15 to twenty million bucks a year to the taxpayer contributions. They have paid dribbles of principle but nothing like what it will take to amortize the loan which is why the bonds are now rated JUNK.However when that happens most of the politicians who negotiated the deal will be long gone.

Another issue is they believe it is UL"s gym even though they are scamming UK and other fans to pay for it. So they will not allow UK to play one game a year there which could be a win win for UK playing neutral site games against teams like ND,IU,Kansas, like they did at Freedom Hall with return games in Indy and St Louis.

The lease also allows UL to tie up the dates from November to March so no Conventions that have to book years in advance can use it. Those are the ones that by far benefit the community the most since they fill up all the hotel rooms for three or four days. Concerts are a one night deal. Don't help the hotel or restaurant trade nearly as much.

Also they will not share it with a pro team which would be in the community's interest .

Just a lousy, lousy bum deal for everyone except a chosen few in a position to "do it because they can"

@KySportsRadio Look, we've asked for the exact same things from U of L and the response has not been as swift or detailed.

Whether you like Kyle or not, his above response as to why they don't delve into UofL's business in the same manner is really pitiful.

Since when is journalism based solely upon what one person/entity is willing to divulge?
Yup. It's a lame argument in these days of open record requests

Only post worth spit in this thread.

The problem is that there is a limit to how far the CJ is going to push on this (at least it seems that way) because they do depend somewhat on the good graces of the university in town. The Herald Leader has never really seemed to care about that.

The financial/back rubbing/back room handshake stuff going on around the YUM Center, etc., is fishy. Even close friends of mine that are UL graduates admit that there are a lot of inexplicably bizarre things that have gone on, especially when you start looking at the NBA and UL's adamance about it's opposition to that. One of my uncles is heavily involved in construction law in downtown Louisville (also a UL grad, die hard fan and season ticket holder in football/basketball) and he fought the YUM Center being built with other UL grads.

This isn't a UK vs. UL issue. This is a UL vs. the citizens of the state issue. The inevitable outcome is that you CANNOT and will NEVER be able to discuss it without it becoming UK vs. UL. It's a damn shame but it's the truth. It's like any other political issue -- the people that have serious rooting interest in it slightly provoke a tiny detail of it the get people riled up about the part that doesn't actually matter.

Can't say much on this but I met a Senior Attorney at a well-known Louisville law firm (FBT) that was involved with the Yum Center deal. Needless to say he walked away in the middle of it because he saw what was happening.

Obviously the story was designed and written to paint UK in a bad light. If that isn't a "hit piece" then I don't know what is.
I don't always agree with MJ but, good on him for asking the questions CJ reporters apparently don't have the guts to ask.
Why the hate for MJ anyway? He is a Wildcat super-fan and has the bully pulpit of a daily radio show to promote the program. Jealousy? Ignorance? Or, perhaps some combination of both?
