Matt Jones: “Cal looked very tense tonight”

Agreed. This is clearly just speculation on my part, but I think to him it was finally validation and a middle finger to everyone who didn't acknowledge him as a coach.
He’s not doing a good job these past 5-7 years proving otherwise. He better pray for a huge run or else he’s gonna ruin a lot of his accomplishments here even more.

Me on Matt Jones: the guy is a shill for cal. He should be leading the call to run cal out but MJ is about MJ not BBN. So just in case cal happens to win a couple games he will get an interview. Matt Jones headline should be “cal tenure about to come to an embarassing end if he doesn’t make a final four”. Then Matt Jones should do everything in his power to mobilize bbn. This is why we suck because everyone is afraid of cal like he will send someone to dish out dirt naps.
I seldom defend Jones but he isn't carrying any water for Calipari

I think you expect to much from him in regards to leading the charge to protect UK. He has a vested interest in maintaining an arms length relationship with UK.

Lol so he in other words does his job based on fear. Well that’s not a winning strategy. Yes Jones is tepid on cal he should be a wolf. This vested interest in the university has nothing to do with why he won’t take cal on. If it is the queen Jones is in the wrong business. Time to man up marty or move aside

I'm not sure what you think his responsibility is, but his job isn't to represent the fan base in a charge to fire Calipari.

He can certainly do that if he chooses, but he (and by proxy his staff) are just commentators on the state of Kentucky basketball. He has said that if UK doesn't make a run in March, then its likely a toxic relationship between Cal and the fans that can't be rebuilt.

He won't go all in either direction for Cal until its more than already determined because that's a recipe for alienating listeners.

That’s what big market media members do. I consider Kentucky basketball on level with many nba markets. If matty doesn’t have the cajones then he should shut the hell up because he doesn’t have it.

Totally ironic since it was Rick who tensed up and shit the bed against Cal over and over. So that’s a weird observation

But cal got schooled by buzz and looked stressed from the jump.
I wouldn't really call it shitting the bed. I mean Calipari did have all 5 stars and NBA all stars to beat RP's 3 stars. When you have the two #1 picks and DeMarcus Cousins and MKG and those type guys playing against Jared Swopshire, Preston Knowles, Rakeem Buckles and Elisha Justice then what the hell does coaching have to do with anything? 😂😔...

I'm not for Pitino and I'm not against Cal while he is at UK even though I'm ready to see him go on somewhere else. I appreciate what both of them done while they had it going here but that argument about Cal being 8-2 against RP is just crazy talk. Hell, he should've been 10-0.

This about somes it up.

Usually being tight is something that shows on offensive end with missed shots and not playing free.

But we looked OK on offense.....defense is what lost this game...and being tight wasn't what I saw.

1. Our guards were no match for their guards
2. Why we play defense so far up on guards....picking up 30 feet from rim. I don't get why we didn't meet them at the 3pt line and not extend.
3. The philosophy on ball screen was a disaster. We try to hedge out and got blown by time and time...poor adjustments. We maybe needed to try going under screens and make their guards hit shots from deep over our bigs.
4. I don't think UK got a solid whistle.....Radford again lives at the line by throwing his body in defenders.

#2 especially. Switching a big on a guard 30 ft out is insanity. Trap or go under.

Jmo but cal wasnt amped enough. No way the early UK version of cal lets us get so screwed by officials without getting a tech.

This version doesn't care about the sec tournament so he was probably ok with going home early so he can eat his cheese balls on the recliner

Imo we should blitz both those guys. When they got any momentum downhill they were just lethal finishing anything and everything at the rim. Blitzing doesn't let them get that momentum.

Of course we know cal prefers the switch so a big man gets cooked on the perimeter.

Imo of all the bad decisions, the worst was at the end when he took out z after a great steal and put in Mitchell. Once they broke the press, they had zero fear of Mitchell at the rim and got the easy and 1 that killed our comeback. Game over.

How many F-ing layups did Texas have? Doesn’t Kentucky have three 7 footers? No rim protection at all! 😡

To be fair, their guards had countless insane finishes at the rim. They were getting there pretty easy but those finishes were majorly contested. It's been a long time since I can remember so many contested rim attempts finding their way in.

For sure, not like their bigs were going hurt us too much from the perimeter. Just a terrible game plan with almost no adjustments. As much as people talk zone, even though we got a couple stops last night we look so stagnant and timid in it.
