Are they insane? No way Cal goes there with no AD and if he is leaving because of NIL Cal definitely won’t buy into that when he’s bankrolled to the moon right now.

Wonder if Cal would go if they offered him the AD/Head coach job. Do both for a few years then retire from coaching and be the AD. I wouldn't complain. Gets him out of the SEC.

He would definitely do it if he could hire Brad as the HC.

Villanova is probably a better job. Relatively strong fan base with some solid basketball history. Probably better money. Not sure about the conference thing but I understand him taking it. Philadelphia isn’t a great place to live but Maryland isn’t wonderful either.

Maryland is beautiful! The Main Line outside of Philly where NOVA is located is really nice too, not that close to the city. He makes $4.1 million at Maryland. Kyle Neptune made $1.2 million at NOVA. Jay Wright made a ton more than that, but I doubt he gets that much (if any) more money.

I do agree that it's potentially a better job, especially if they allocate more revenue sharing money to their basketball team than a school like Maryland. I know the new AD at Villanova and he would be a great guy to work for.

Quite possibly the craziest coaching drama I can remember since the Roy Williams to North Carolina rumors started while he had Kansas in the Final Four. You just don’t see many guys up and leave a power conference job without it being a face saving move before they get fired, and it’s even more shocking to be leaving the Big 10 voluntarily in a time when they’re positioned to be one of the two conferences that are ahead of even the other power conferences. Add in the allegations that he’s essentially checking out on his team that’s still alive in the Sweet 16, and this is a real doozy.

Bill Frieder has to be the craziest one ever in the 1989 season. Frieder announced prior to the NCAA Tournament that he was leaving after the season to go coach Arizona State. Bo Schembelchler was the AD at Michigan at the time and told him to hit the road now and don't coach the rest of the season. He then names Steve Fisher as his replacement going into the NCAA Tournament and Fisher leads them to the national title.

Looks like Cal is one of the names Maryland has on their list lol.

So if both win and they hire Cal, I wonder if he would switch and coach Maryland for the rest of the tournament? Beyond crazy, like how they've screwed up bowl season in football.

Willard will be making $93,337.00 every two weeks if he pays the maximum federal tax and state tax. Every month, he will make what most of us make in two to threes of work.

Think about that. Roughly $46,000 a week (after taxes) to coach at a place like Villanova.

Anything that gets some of these big names out of the SEC would be a net positive in my eyes. I don’t hate Cal. I don’t fear Cal. That said, I do not deny he will always have top flight athletes and I’d rather not have to run into those as a variable 1-3 times per season. Go to Maryland, Cal!
