Mark Pope "Coming In Hot" on UGA Transfer (Travis Graf)

AJ Storr was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Hunter Dickinson was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Coleman Hawkins was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Great Osobor was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Omaur Ballo was ranked as the #2 portal prospect a year ago by 24/7.

I'd say Otega Oweh had a better year than all of them.

Walter Clayton wasn't a portal superstar.

Mark Sears wasn't a portal superstar.

etc. etc.

I get what you are saying but it seems more "portal superstars" end up being busts because they chase the money, not the right fit/situation, and guys and staffs who hunt for the right fit/situation end up overachieving.

We hired Mark Pope to do the job, Mark Pope hired a top-notch staff to do their jobs, we gotta have some faith and let it all shake out.
That’s why a guy like Wilkerson intrigues me. Proven scorer in a smaller conference that could move up and do the same.

Intrigued me also. Kid looks awesome on film. The way he handled the ball, I thought he was a pg. Looked him up and saw only g by his name. Then I was corrected and found on 247 he was a SG. Then I hear arky was going to get him. lol it’s a long road bro.

Respectfully not with “Superstars”….there are only 5-7 each year in the portal and everybody pretty much mutually agrees who they are. Dent certainly was one. I LOVE the Williams addition but PG and C appear to be the crucial positions in the Pope system. So I understand why people are worried about a potential combo guard from a borderline tournament team IF that’s intended to be the starting PG. I do agree with you that we gotta wait until the roster is set to make a final judgement though.
Regardless of position, a team needs 2-3 alphas who will go get you a bucket (not be passive) when you need one.
Oweh is one. Maybe FR Johnson is one, or maybe not, we don’t know. So need 1-2 more. I don’t think KW is one or this UGA kid. Gwath who I really want isn’t one.

Saw a story yesterday, most of these kids at smaller schools will play with a chip on their shoulder went they go to power 4 programs wanting to prove themselves to the masses.

I am Ready for some portal news and some “studs” to enter the market. Ryan Conwell and Dailyn Swain are interesting to me. Wonder how they would fit. Swain has good size at 6’7” for a SF and played really well well down the stretch for them. He is only a SO. @ralphdaltonfan you have any insight in these guys? I know you watch Xavier right @HenryMuto ?

He was the best player on a tournament team in the best Conference in America. Ivan play the 1 or the 2 and can shoot with decent size. I don’t understand what some of you are expecting from the portal lol

Inefficient scorer in a cup cake league

Big no to me

Some of these names are concerning to me. We're definitely not winning bidding wars with the likes of sju, byu, duke, etc. Then you have teams like Florida and bama who employ the same moneyball type approach and are doing it better.

Roster building is just going to be tough sledding at UK unless the nil situation gets fixed.

He has the entire offseason but I want Pope to live up to his own words….here is the exact quote.

“We have three incredibly talented rookies coming in so far — and we’ll see how that high school recruiting finishes up. Then we’ll be really, really aggressive in the portal at a couple of positions to bring in a couple superstars.”
Love CMP but keep in mind , he hyperboles everything positive. He uses words like spectacular , elite, and special practically every time he speaks about something.

These two are probably headed to Texas with Miller both are visiting Texas this week.

You don’t know that Florida and Bama are doing it better. Pope has been here ONE DAMN YEAR! You have no idea what Florida and bamas roster will look like next year.People that are paid to know things like this say our NIL is one of the best.

I don't honestly care how Pope does it be it through the Portal or recruiting but we need to get wayyyyy more talent than we had on this current squad.

I don’t think we need way more talent. When healthy, this was easily a top 10 team, pushing top 5, in an up year in college basketball.

Would like to see similar skill level with more athleticism, if we can thread that needle.

People who are paid to blow smoke up Kentucky fans' rears say that and I can't believe so many of you fall for it. Plenty of posters on here (especially here recently) have pointed out this is obviously not the case. I've been telling you since last year it's not true but most of y'all reject anything that makes you uncomfortable. I'm not that way which is why I figured this out a long time before most. If you have any ability to recognize patterns (which I am really good at) then you would have already put this all together at this point. It will become more undeniable. Just lost a player to South Carolina and if you are still under the illusion it's not all about $$ at this point then you fit the description I just gave of "most of y'all." I don't enjoy being the bearer of bad news. No one does, but I hate even more when people straight up lie to fans and that's going on quite a bit.

You just said a whole lot of nothing in your ramble.

I’m also fairly adept at pattern recognition, and I’ve noticed a pattern of miserable posts from you. Cheer up. 😁

Yeah you keep beating that drum . I’ve read enough of your posts to realize you don’t know shit . We didnt “lose a kid to South Carolina “ , we took the top wing we wanted at that position. Take that crap to someone else. I see right through your charade.

You are exactly the sort of fan I was talking about. Congratulations for playing yourself. I'm done responding.

I didn't say he couldn't close the gap but its just sticking your head in the sand to deny theyre doing it better right now.

Also anyone saying our nil situation is one of the best is flat lying. We're not poor but we're certainly not one of the best.

I see it similarly. We have a limited amount of money!
I do believe the staff wanted Dent, and think for someone like him you over pay to get him!
1st. Was he a fit teammate wise to be here, or was he a me first player!
2nd. Ucla had more cash available because they didn't pay J Johnson A Lewis, OO, along with front court pieces! Would he have hurt the front court money availability? IDK but we have several examples of high high nil money this past year and the teams really struggled! K.St. Kansas. Arkansas. IN. I'm sure there are many more examples!

I actually really like the GA PG.
He has length "good defender" and solid offensive game! But I'm surprised if we get him!

P.s. What I mean by a limited amount of money, is we can't go throw top dollar for 5-6 pieces! Dent reported 3 mil. If you retain OO let's say 2 mil, AL, 1. mil, JJ 1.5 mil Chandler 1 mil (im just guessing)
That's over 8 mil! Now you need 2 top frontcourt pieces at 2+ mil a piece, count in the depth pieces! You will be at 15 mil. Everybody on here is throwing money around, but don't realize the teams outbidding us for some guys will hurt themselves at other needs!
So you have to put the money at the right position to get you over the top!

Wasn’t sold on it initially. But the idea of he and Oweh out there together intrigues me. We need to be a little tougher next year.

This is a great point that I hadn’t actually considered….thanks for bringing it up! You’re 100% right and proper context is key in interpreting any kind of speech from a specific speaker.

Proof is in the pudding. We're not outbidding anyone.

To add salt in the wound, duke will get every elite player they want thanks to their nike pipeline. That exposure is worth way more than any typical nil package, although im sure the nil is pretty damn good too.

How do you know we didn’t outbid anyone for Williams ? You don’t.
