Mark Pope "Coming In Hot" on UGA Transfer (Travis Graf)

Oweh and DeMary together on the wing would be a solid tandem.

Just need the right PG. I would like to see us get a winner. A guy that has led his previous team to at least one win in the NCAA tourney. Dent would have worked. Smith would be absolutely perfect, but I don’t see him leaving Purdue.

What about the Lewis kid from Zona? I don’t know much about him.
They got Jasper and Lewis.

Who do yall want them to get?
He has the entire offseason but I want Pope to live up to his own words….here is the exact quote.

“We have three incredibly talented rookies coming in so far — and we’ll see how that high school recruiting finishes up. Then we’ll be really, really aggressive in the portal at a couple of positions to bring in a couple superstars.”

Exactly live up to his words!

Demary is a grown ass man, built like a 🧱 house. He’s a great piece to add because he’s athletic, strong, proven scorer in the SEC. Just hope he’s a natural at PG and not just an athlete trying to be a PG. Thats something Cal would do.
I think we’d take him today hoping to get a more natural PG in the coming days. He wasily slides to the 2.

BYU has more money than anyone.

They do indeed. But also they probably need to overpay to get certain guys given the lifestyle restrictions (no alcohol, no sex [AKA don't get caught], have to live in BYU housing, no females allowed on your floor and definitely not in your bedroom, etc.)

If I'm a 20 year old athlete at UGA, going to BYU would be the biggest culture-shock ever.

The staff knows talent better than all of us. We gotta stop acting like we know what players fit and are better than the dang coaching staff.

There is a difference between Portal ranking superstars and guys that will actually emerge as superstars.

AJ Storr was a Portal ranking superstar last year.

Respectfully not with “Superstars”….there are only 5-7 each year in the portal and everybody pretty much mutually agrees who they are. Dent certainly was one. I LOVE the Williams addition but PG and C appear to be the crucial positions in the Pope system. So I understand why people are worried about a potential combo guard from a borderline tournament team IF that’s intended to be the starting PG. I do agree with you that we gotta wait until the roster is set to make a final judgement though.

Respectfully you are a fan sitting on the couch, we have 2 coaches that played in the nba and multiple years experience in college coaching they know more then you, cornbread and booker fan. You 3 wouldn’t be happy if Kentucky signed lebron james.

Cornbread man your cool, but you never like any player they target or sign. And if you do it’s very very rare. Trust the staff, what we think are good players and what they think are good players are not the same thing. They know way more than we do.
That is not true at all. I liked the Williams,Carr,Chandler,Oweh Noah,Robinson signings.

Being insulting isn’t how you win an argument….you asked why people were being negative about the portal targets. I answered specifically quoting our coach who perhaps set an unrealistic standard when he voluntarily stated he was hunting “superstars.” Now you want to get into a semantics argument over the definition of “superstar?” That’s fine and you’re certainly entitled to your opinion on a message board. But my interpretation of “superstar” from my couch is the same as the widely accepted cultural definition.

Yes but you’re acting like your viewpoint is better than a coaching staff with NBA level talent evaluators on it.

I never said he was bad just that I would prefer a couple others as starting point guard. I don't see why that would upset anyone.
I said the same thing initially then realized it was silly. He is good and if we get him we got a really good guard. You’re good but I guess people just want to let the coaching staff do what they do.

Haha. Man I agree with all of this except Lebum James. We get him and I’m a Cards fan. Lmao. Not really but I’m definitely not a fan of his. Thanks don’t worry

AJ Storr was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Hunter Dickinson was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Coleman Hawkins was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Great Osobor was supposedly a superstar portal player.

Omaur Ballo was ranked as the #2 portal prospect a year ago by 24/7.

I'd say Otega Oweh had a better year than all of them.

Walter Clayton wasn't a portal superstar.

Mark Sears wasn't a portal superstar.

etc. etc.

I get what you are saying but it seems more "portal superstars" end up being busts because they chase the money, not the right fit/situation, and guys and staffs who hunt for the right fit/situation end up overachieving.

We hired Mark Pope to do the job, Mark Pope hired a top-notch staff to do their jobs, we gotta have some faith and let it all shake out.

Fit is much more important than somebody who got 20 ppg

Exactly and he found some really under the radar type guys that made a great team. I believe he will again. Obviously Dent was kinda a sure fire producer and that hurt but let’s see what happens. There is a reason a lot of schools like this guy too.
