I was just listening to Mark Pope's pre game press conference. Someone asked him about Big Z, and he said while chuckling:
"I did get a chance to talk to him a couple times. Clearly, I liked him a lot more than he liked me."
It sounds like he did make a run at getting Z to stay at UK. For his development and performance, I think he definitely would have been better off staying at UK.
