Magoon returns to sdsu

Dude, Johnson played at OTE, he’s not even eligible for these all star games lol.
He is eligible. He was not selected. See below.

OTE (Overtime Elite) players were initially deemed ineligible for the McDonald's All-American Game because of their professional status and the rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). However, in 2023, OTE began a scholarship program allowing players to maintain their amateur status and become eligible for the game.

I think from Pope’s comments I heard, there will be a few players that we won’t find out about until very late. Players that are in the draft evaluation process that don’t make up their mind until right at the deadline.

Dude chose to stay at SDSU, a school that isn't going to compete for anything other than maybe a 10-seed in the NCAAT.

If that doesn't wake people up, I don't know what will.
The only thing it says to me is that he is someone who doesn’t prioritize winning. Any player that doesn’t want to win at the highest level should stay away from Kentucky. Period. Glad he isn’t coming.

Came here to post this. Unfortunate if true, but smart for the staff.
Don’t know anything myself. But, I mentioned, this maybe why Kerr is not returning. We don’t want kids who can play to sit, if they just want to “shut it down” and play it safe.

Yes. Absolutely bs if they only offered partial NIL package. The kid is a unicorn and wasn't asking an insane amount.
That is so BS. I like the kid, but he is not a unicorn at this point or you would have seen other teams come in and offer outrageous NIL packages. If the $850K number that I have seen is correct, then many teams would have brought better deals for a unicorn. Some of you people are like little divas who didn’t get their way. Grow up!

He's not lol. At least no in money that's actually available. Ryan Smith is worth 2.5 billion and he's not even 50 yet.
Yes he is. And the money is available. There's a dozen horse farms in Lexington worth that much. I'm low at a dozen.

Let me give you just one example. Curlin brings in about $35 mil per year to Hill N Dale. That's just one horse. Now, he's an all time great. But others bring in more to their farms. Curlin is just one of a dozen regular stallions at HnD.

I was present when 2 horsemen, that are not from Lexington, told Mitch that, if it comes down to money for a player you feel you have to have, call us.

The hand wringing about NIL is just nonsense. There's not been a reason to call those guys either.

Is that money available? Theres a difference between a millionaire horse farmer and a millionaire horse farmer who wants to bankroll the college basketball team down the road..

And if there's any truth to that story, then there's clearly a break in the NIL pipeline.. and that may be Mitch.

The point is, something isn't working right here. Have to figure out what the hangup is. Because while Kentucky and Pope shouldn't just have handpicked any and every transfer.. we should be doing a little better than we are currently.

Like another poster said and what I said yesterday... we're no longer in the 1st inning of this.

Ok so how many top programs have loaded up in the portal already?

Who do you consider a "top" program? because to me, that's about 8 to 10 programs at most. Point being, Kentucky can't, and should not, compare itself to what places like SDSU and Maryland are doing.

We have a top5 coach, supposedly top25ish NIL money, among other things.. I'd like to think we we'd at least be a finalist for a guy like Demary. We're getting told "no" a heck of a lot more than I'd think for being one of the elite programs.

Lol. The answer is no other top program has blown their wad already. They are doing the same thing we are.

I have no idea what any of their team needs are, and I also have no idea who they contacted yet. I do know what we landed one guy and we're missing on pretty much every one else. Goon stayed at powerhouse SDSU, Demary already eliminated us.. then guys like Dent and several others. Thats not even including the guys who just inherently don't want to come here.

Lol wahhh wahhhh wahhhh. I guess yall might as well get your crying in now bc we are gonna get our dudes.

And so it's written, no, "getting our guys" isn't walking away with the 36th team ranking in the transfer portal. It needs to be in the teens.

My point is, this no longer has anything to do about Cal, and trying to pin this on him is just missing the point entirely. I'll ask again, how exactly was he "sucking the program dry"? What sort of irreversible damage did he do, or what hole did he put us in that we're climbing out of?
Never said he put us in a hole.. Just think the money boosters spent on all that talent and 1 championship, might’ve made them hesitant on throwing the kitchen sink at some kids 🤷

Where in my post did I say “ Cal really put us inn a hole and now it’s soooooo far gone” ?

I thought Pope was being over selective until I saw all the complaining on here over the Indiana transfer visiting

So they were fine spending money for top classes (and some transfers) right up until Cal left.. but now they're pissed about it and the boosters are hesitant? After the remarkable season we just had?

Idk, that doesn't track to me. I don't think Cal and his actions have an bearing or effect on the program today. We aren't lacking resources because some boosters are mad at him.

UK still seems to be doing this whole "We will lure them in with our tradition" bit.

For whatever distance ahead schools like UK and IU were, it means nothing now. No amount of legacy or fandom or titles. We HAVE to get around that.
100% correct. This board doesn't want to hear it, but being the winningest program in history and having eight titles means nothing in 2025. That's not how you lure in recruits or coaches, and we saw the latter when every top target turned us down last year. The juice isn't worth the squeeze at blue bloods for most coaches unless the tradition of said blue blood actually means something to them personally.

I didn’t say boosters were mad at Cal? Damn! lol… All this back and forth sh*t because I think the boosters might not wanna spend the money on some of these transfers? I said the boosters were pissed? I don’t know any boosters personally and could give 2 sh*ts lol. But I do know you’d argue with a f*ckin 🌲

Nope. Cal sucked that dry 👍 boosters tired of spending the money. NIL has officially killed UK ..

Its almost like you don't realize anyone can see what you wrote earlier today.

You'll try and spin this with some thing like "well ACTUALLY I didnt..".. but we all knew what you were implying.

Honestly, a I'd rather argue with a Christmas Tree, probably put up a better fight.
