LSU now holding "combine"..

NBA Scouts already shot this down.

“UK has more depth which makes a combine much more interesting,” one veteran NBA scout said. “LSU has three top prospects but lacks depth for a quality combine.”

The next step will be the NCAA stepping in and holding its own "combine" and telling UK they can not hold their own.

You gotta love a team with 3 future NBA players ( Quarterman , Blakeney and Simmons ) acting like they got 10 . Basically if you are a scholarship at UK and not from the state you are going to play in the NBA but not at a schlub place like LSU .

Personally, I like this move by them. Is it ripping off what UK did? Clearly. Will it be as interesting? Nope, but I like that they're putting their athletes out there and possibly attracting attention to athletes that may not initially be drawing attention from NBA scouts. Good on 'em.

My guess is this will become more common. I wonder if it will WORK, though... A lot more useful and attractive for guys to make the trip if they have a lot of players to watch.

I think the NCAA will eventually step in and say no school can do this but until then I don't see anyone doing this better than CAL and this is coming from a UofL fan. Cal is far and away the best at recruiting and building the hype around his players for the NBA. There is no one even close to being second.

Jones can try. But as NBA scouts said, there really isnt much interest there because they have 2, maybe 3 kids worth watching. Theyll be able to see them plenty during the season. They may have an embarrassing turnout. In fact, it wouldnt surprise me at all if it were quietly cancelled.

Whereas at UK, theyll be able to see 8 or so NBA prospects. Some of which wont even see the floor that much in the coming season. Plus, by now, NBA scouts know if Cal offered a kid - hes an NBA prospect.

It's a copycat league. You have to think before long, all big time programs will be doing this, and they all should. It's extremely innovative by Cal. He is truly ahead of the game when it comes to shining the spotlight on his players. Love it.

Was only a matter of time until another team tried to do it. Imitation is the biggest form of flattery...

It's a copycat league.

It's a copycat world, and we all benefit. When you buy a CR-V you get the benefit of not just the engineers at Honda, but also the engineers at Toyota, and Subaru, and Mercedes, and BMW, etc.

And how many basketball players have copied the moves of a player from a previous generation?

Which reminds me....a few weeks ago I was traveling through New York Giants territory and there were two teenagers in the street playing catch with a football. But each one was wearing a big glove and only catching the ball with one hand.

I say have at it. By the time another school does and it's coach starts getting the "master of game" accolades that we're currently seeing at a current ACC school, Cal will have already made the combine passé, by coming up with another innovative way to let the rest of the coaches know that they're already wearing hand-me-downs.

"We are the needle."

I may consider checking it out though.
