LSU Coach retiring

Pitching coach Dunn is their 'associate head coach,' and has been there since 2012, so I guess they could give him a shot, but realistically, LSU is not known for their pitching. lol

Kendall Rogers just said on Twitter that LSU might be willing to pay up to $1.9 Million a year. Wow.
Isn’t McDonnell the highest paid at $1 million? It wasn’t too long ago we didn’t pay our football coach that much. That’s the difference in being one of the big boys and being UK sitting on the side and watching.

I think he's top 3-5. Corbin and Van Horn are top two I think.

Tennessee looking to make Vitello one of the highest paid coaches and promise significant facility upgrades to keep him.

Retirement is a nice way to put it, but his fate was decided several months ago.

O’Sullivan and Vitello top the list.
Kendall Rogers reporting today that good ole “Sully” took his name out of consideration for the LSU job. Informed UF this morning. Looks like the person who posted Pat Casey yesterday was correct.

Anyone know what scandal/baggage Kevin O’Sullivan has? It was mentioned in one of Kendal Rogers’ threads on LSU? No one mentioned exactly what it was, only a “scandal.”

There was a murder/suicide involving a UF booster who allegedly was close friends with O'Sullivan.

Naturally, there are rumors surrounding this regarding O'Sullivan's involvement.

I found some other replies and it’s speculated that the wife was having an affair with O’Sullivan. I assume if it’s true it will eventually get cut.

LSU fans seem to be saying that O'Sullivan was the guy, but that the LSU board of directors would not approve him. They are very unhappy with Casey and the baggage that he has with being associated with former player Luke Heimlich.

For those that don't remember, Hemlich pitched for Oregon State and was named the 2018 National Pitcher of the Year. However, in 2017 it became public that as a 15 year old he has sexually molested his very young niece and pled guilty to charges surrounding those circumstances. In 2017 when those charges were made public he left the Oregon State baseball team and left the public eye. He returned in 2018 and went 15-1 with a 2.42 ERA and was named the National Pitcher of the Year. However, MLB would not draft him due to his criminal past and other leagues have banned him from participation. He last pitched in a Mexican league in 2019.

LSU fans seem to want Gowdin from East Carolina, McDonnell from Louisville (who allegedly has said he'd listen to their pitch) or Vitello from Tennessee.

LSU fans don’t seem to be interested in Casey. Also didn’t seem to be interested in O’Sullivan either. I’m surprised the news on O’Sullivan and that affair, either true or not, make its way around other schools fans.

Now sounding very much like former Tiger and current Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco might be heading to Baton Rouge.

@Mulder14

Seems like it was between him and ECU's Godwin.

That hire doesn't move the needle much for me. Ole Miss is a big time baseball school just like LSU is. They are on a similar level IMO. Maybe LSU is a bit of a step up, but I wouldn't say it is a ton. Despite being at a big baseball school since 2001, Bianco has only been to the CWS 1 time. I think he is a solid hire, but just not a massive one. To me, Godwin and Vitello are doing as much as Bianco has/is doing with less resources. So, those two would be better at pushing LSU to new heights. Bianco will do well, but not sure he is any type of huge splash for them.

Still, that opens another SEC school looking to make a change. So it begs the question of where Ole Miss turns. Will they take Godwin or Vitello or look elsewhere?

BTW... allegedly UT is going to spend 30 million on renovations. That is as much as UK spent on a new stadium entirely.

Re TN, that would be interesting seeing as TN's been operating in the red the past several years.

IF UT wants to keep Vitello they are going to have to make him promises. Excitement in Knoxville is really high regarding this baseball team and more UT fans than ever have come out of the woodwork acting like they've cared about baseball all along. So, they will try to strike while the iron is hot.

You know I was wondering why Bianco wasn’t under consideration from the start. After watching that ESPN Holding the Rope show and finding out Bianco was an LSU assistant coach under Skip Bertman I was curious why he wasn’t up there on their list.

McDonnell went to The Citadel as a player, but he was an assistant at Ole Miss from 2001-2006. So, yea, they could heavily consider him. Not sure what happened with him and LSU. I heard that he'd consider them and listen if they pitched, but don't know if he was just listening and being respectful, or actually considering.

He actually played at LSU for 2 years and his son is currently a freshman at LSU.

I just personally think he has been at Ole Miss a long time and he just isn't a huge splash. 1-6 in Super Regional appearances, meaning he went to just 1 CWS. I think when you look at coaches who have been at certain schools you hope that they can do better at your school. The argument there being that you're giving them better resources and such so they can succeed more. Kind of like UK did with Caliapari. He proved he could win a small schools and we wanted him to up his game even further with the resources he didn't get at those smaller schools.

With Bianco... his resources at Ole Miss aren't that much different than what he'll get at LSU. So, it is hard to expect (IMO) a significant difference in results, and I just don't think the results he gave at Ole Miss will appeal to LSU fans.

I think there are a ton of baseball fans at every SEC school. The problem is people are not interested in watching a perennial loser. UK might draw a thousand per game now but I guarantee they would pull 4 thousand if they are competitive.

Apparently Bianco not getting the job and will return to Ole Miss. Hmm... UT fans should be nervous.

Don't see this but you never know especially since TN's said they won't give TV a new contract unless he wins it all. He may decide to just piss on it and move on. UVA pretty much exposed them anyway.

Supposedly the LSU AD was in Omaha over the weekend. Safe to assume he was there to talk to Vitello.

I haven't heard that this was the case? I heard they have been working on a new contract to give him a ton of money and they are solidifying plans to put 30 million into updating their crap stadium to make it normal.

LSU fans thinking it could be Corbin. I think that seems like an odd hire. Corbin has been at Vandy for a long time, not sure why he'd walk away from that now considering what he's built there. Not to mention that he's 59 years old. He could conceivably coach a lot longer, but not exactly a young gun.
