LSU at Kentucky (2)

Collett looked really bad on a ball in the turf, but it gets passed the catcher and UK scores 3-7. Collett fouling off some pitches to stay alive, but he doesn't look good on this breaking ball. He got one left up in the middle of the zone and Collett just smacks it into right center and it scores both Hill and Schultz. Great at bat for Collett to get that hit. 5-7 with 1 out and Collett at first.

Rhodes challenged with a middle/middle fastball that he swings through. Man that thing would have gone forever had he gotten a hold of it. Rhodes draws a walk. That brings the go ahead run to the plate and brings out the LSU pitching coach to make a pitching change... Fontenot (sp?) coming in.

Kessler up with 1 out and runners at second and third. Kessler does the last thing you want to see and it goes for a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Still, UK got 4 hits and got back into this thing and we go to the 8th down just 5-7.

I'm not going to take anything away from the program or kids. That's a big win for them even if Louisville is mediocre, its a big win on paper beating the #7 team and on their field for the first time since 2014.
Just trying to be honest. U6 has 8-9 loses and ranked 7th. Come on.

Harney gets a K looking to start the 8th. Love that the UK media guy is using the Hey Arnold theme every time Zach Arnold comes to the plate. Cracks me up. HOLY CRAP!!! TJ COLLETT WITH A RUNNING GRAB INTO SHORT RIGHT FIELD... OVER THE SHOULDER!!!! THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!

The guys at D1Baseball do the rankings. They are absolute professionals and they know their stuff. They are not wrong often. If they still have Louisville as a top 10 team, there is a reason for it.

Think their top pitchers are all injured is the only thing I hear about. That catcher is legit.

Harney gives up a walk with two outs. Going to a review as UK does a pickoff play and they believe they got Morgan, but the umpire called him safe. I think they actually may have gotten him, but it is so close that it is hard to say.

I don't know the whole story about their team, but I highly doubt D1Baseball is too worried about their midweek losses, especially with them having so many guys injured. They are going probably to their 5th or 6th best starter in the midweek, so those games are looked at as largely being throw aways. That is where they have lost a good portion of their games.

They come back and call him safe after the review. That was close and you may not be able to change it either way. Harney gets a swinging strikeout to end the LSU 8th.

5-7 going to the UK half.

Last time...lost again today and are 19-10 on the season

Anu walked before Estep struck out looking. Ritter bounces one up the middle and it puts runners on the corners with 1 out. Plastiak up again. UK has not been quite as aggressive on the bases with steals lately. Ritter might be able to take second here because Fontenot is not even looking his way. Plastiak falls behind 0-2 before getting a ball and then he gets hit with a pitch. They will review again.

They say it didn't hit him and he stays there, but Ritter did advance to second. Plastiak gets another ball for a full count. He hits him right in the knee and Plastiak is mad. Barking at the pitcher and the umpire escorts him up the baseline.

I like that attitude from Plastiak right there. LSU coach out to talk to his pitcher and the umpires are huddling about something? Wow... this is really bad by the umpires. They gave the pitching coach an eternity to talk to his pitcher about this. A ton longer than they would normally get all because the umps were talking about who knows what. Plastiak coming off the bases and Grace will pinch run for him.

Hill grounds it to second and they trade an out for a run. 6-7 with 2 outs. Hill put the ball in play and that is a positive, but might have liked to have seen him be a bit patient there after the LSU pitcher has struggled some with control.

Schultz up and he is patient but grounds out to second. They go the short way and get Hill. Hill almost beat it.

6-7 going to the 9th.

Harney still out there. He gets a grounder to second and gives up a single to shallow center before getting another ground out to second. Ground ball past the diving short stop scores a run for LSU. That was on a 1-2 pitch. UK was playing the shift and it still found a hole. 6-8 with 2 outs.

Hunter struggling out of the pen and throws 4 straight balls. They aren't all that close either.

He found the strikezone and gets a K to end the inning. We go to the bottom of the 9th with UK needing two in order to stay alive in this game and the series.

6-8 LSU

New pitcher for LSU to try to slam this door and win the series. Collett pops up to mid-left for the first out. Rhodes also pops up, but he pops up to just the middle of the diamond, south of the pitching mound for the second out. So, UK down to their final out in the game. Kessler up and he grounds out to second.

LSU takes the series 8 to 6. They will go for the sweep tomorrow at 1pm.

Well, at least that was a lot more competitive. Every single Cat reached base at least once.

The early walks hurt us, but the big part of it was that much of the pitches that we threw were either clearly balls or they were down the middle. When that sort of thing happens, it is much easier to hit.

This is not a shot against Hagenow. The future is bright for him. I have no doubt. But man we miss Hazelwood.

100 percent Hazelwood is one of our best pitchers. I like the young arms, but having the stable Hazelwood in the middle would have added a lot of strength.

By the way... better to buy tickets tonight, or at the gate tomorrow?
I didn't think about walk up tickets. I got mine online. We were the only people in the left field berm. It felt pretty cold to me after we got soaked. I'm glad we made a come back but it would be nice to string some of those hits earlier in the game. We really seem to struggle against good SEC starters.

Don't think you'll have any trouble either way🤔😎...interesting watching OM/Arky today vs UK/LSU . UK game only lightly attended and people sitting as a couple or alone around no one wearing mask while game at OM probably 70/75% full and nobody wearing masks.
