If you really take a look at Calipari’s NBA guys, all-star level or not, it’s startling how many of them showcase specific skills and even overall abilities so far beyond what they ever showed at Kentucky. Naturally, we expect guys to improve with age and competition level, but even taking that into account, he’s had some “dudes” roll through here that just didn’t show anything close to that as college athletes.
I say that to offer this: many of the talents he brags about being in the NBA perhaps made it in spite of his coaching, not because of it. I believe his so-called ability to present guys favorably to the NBA is one that applied back in his glory days but holds very little truth today.
