Lock up Kobi Simmons...

Lot of kids want to play for UK, Duke, etc....does that mean you take them? And lots of highly thought of players by the scouts/ranked high want to play for them and are turned away. Maybe some of you think since I'm not a UK fan that I've got a secretive motive about this. Reality is it's a lot easier to see things for what they are when you aren't tied to it. I've shared the Fox updates for some time--even prior to UK offering, turning up the interest. So I have nothing at stake. Also following the sport-you realize that UK recruiting is rarely as public as Kobi Simmons has handled his--the quotes, constant non informative updates to keep his name out there...(how many times is he going to announce the same thing?)

I'd assume most would want the type of kid who wanted the offer, played his way into getting it, and dominated on the Spring/Summer circuit. The other ran his mouth about "being their guy"--which honestly think some of you guys take that as important--you know how many recruits hear same thing in stages of a recruitment. If you are truly "their guy"--they accept a commitment and don't covet other players as your position. So that was not true. If you wanted that designation--play better, don't have an attitude at games in front of the Staff, not best option to openly talk of your recruitment (that isn't how UK does recruiting nor has it ever been in a Calipari program) and get tougher skin--one of Simmons biggest drawbacks is he doesn't take kindly to criticism and is that a great fit for a Calipari coached player?

Anyway, good luck to you guys in landing whomever it is you want.

You're exactly correct. Some of these fools get happy feet and forget we have John Effin Calipari as our coach.

Really interesting perspective. I think that's why so many of us maybe wonder how well the Fox are Monk recruitments are going because Cal keeps it so quiet. Out of curiosity - have you heard anything about Bridges or Gabriel?

With Gabriel--last I talked with someone in the know was at the Adidas Event last evaluation period in August. Friend that gave me Fox info said that Gabriel was a heavy Duke lean. Now that was prior to Javin DeLaurier commitment which he was being slow played at time....and really see Gabriel as a kid who is being recruited hard by Duke in case Giles doesn't go their way. If they land Giles as all expect. then I can see Gabriel at UK.

Bridges--depends who you talk to, but will say that someone connected with The Family AAU program said far too much being made about where the announcement is taking place. Kid is at a Prep School in WV and family is in Michigan, so it's not like he's holding a public presser at his HS in Flint. For instance when James Young committed and left the state--he did so in studio and not at his HS. This is at a JR College locally--and if people want to read into that as a strong lean to staying home, so be it. Flip side is if mom wanted him away from home for HS, why would she be opposed to him leaving for college?

We'll know in a few days and wish you and other UK fans luck with him.

I'm calling it now. Cal needs to lock up Kobi Simmons ASAP. This kid is a UK fan, a Top 20 recruit, the fact that we don't have him locked up yet is ridiculous. He's not going to scare off Fox or Monk. Think he would be great in a 3 guard lineup - much like we are going to feature this year.
Someone email this post to Cal, he needs all the help he can get.

Cal should probably tell Simmons to wait until Spring.

Then he can judge based on who else we have whether he should come to UK or not.

Hopefully, we will have Fox, Monk, and Gabriel at the 1-3 spots. If Simmons stills wants to come, then by all means, sign him up.

That would be ideal. For what it's worth - Ben Roberts said on Twitter he doesn't think this will be Cal's "best class ever" as Cal had claimed a few months ago. Bummer. Maybe that was just Cal being Cal.

Who cares. Too many folks take every word Cal says and holds it to heart. UK will still have a great class.

I doubt he would go for that. Telling him to wait til spring would probably put the bow on the present for either OSU or UNLV, since he originally was going to decide last week.

The fact it is so quiet - might be a good sign for UK, no?
Absolutely. If the kid went ahead and announced he was going to Arkansas he would be playing every game in sold out gyms and would be one of the most beloved people in the state . Who wouldn't want that . There is a reason he's waiting until spring to announce.
