He rebuilds Florida in just 3 years into a 1 seed team, very impressive

Florida has talent, plays unselfish basketball, very good in both offense and defense.

He is also very good at investigating overlooked talent. T. Haugh and A. Condon were only three-star recruits in high school. However, they are actually very talented and are now key contributors for Florida, even though they are only sophomores. It is very hard to investigate overlooked talented players, and he investigated two in one class!

He is only 39, good years are ahead of him, could be next HOF coach...

Yep if it ever goes south with Pope for whatever reason, that should be the name. I think there are better coaches but his age is a huge advantage

It’s really hard to change a dog’s spots but I agree he can coach basketball. Just hope he’s learned his lesson.

Eventually losing a guy like Walter Clayton is going to sting a bit. And I think they're losing him and their other 2 leading scorers (if the covid stuff is done, I'm never quite sure).

This is where you find out how good a coach is. A lot of them can throw together a team for a year or two, but eventually, they have to graduate. Golden seems legit, but next years team is going to be very different.

I believe Florida will be very powerful in the long term under Golden

His solid talent evaluation ability is not mentioned much, and this will play huge part in the success of a program.

Yeah he’s a damn good coach. We will see if he got lucky with this team and the core he found, but his style and they way they rebound is elite. He would definitely be a great candidate to take over someday if Pope doesn’t work out, although I don’t find that likely.

Yeah it seems like he identified a lot of guys kinda under the radar who are way better than most expected. That will pay huge dividends in saving NIL resources for key players if he keeps it up.

I doubt it, those DA’s won’t make a hire they should. Beard supposedly got in a domestic dispute we see better than that, Sampson made phone calls wahh, McDermott is too old.
Pretty much sums it up. That kind of pretentious and sanctimonious crap where you break your own arm patting yourself on the back is how an Indians becomes an Indiana. This will be a telling off-season. Are they ready to get back in the game or keep watching from the sidelines? If they want to compete, it has to be willing to go for the Golden, Beard and Pearl types.

You know they won’t. For some reason they say they are a blue blood and want to be back again! They hold theirselves in such high esteem only a couple coaches are good enough for them so they hire some loser to believe in.

Yep, that’s why I don’t mix sports and ethics. If you want to win, prove it. You hire the best person for the job. Being a good person is bonus

I remember the Mike White days. I didn't have anything against the guy, but I was the most vocal and noticeably the first person on the gator board EARLY on....that he wasn't "it".

I can't say he wouldnt ever succeed, but it dont think UF was the time or place for him. Golden? I didn't get that same feeling. Whether Golden can win it all or not remains to be seen....but i do think he's the best coach for uf at this time.

Golden has done a great job this year. He is an excellent coach. In spite of all of our injuries, UK has done well. Pope did a great job as well. We definitely would have had a better record if our team had stayed healthy. Whether Golden, Pope, or any coach will be able to be excellent every year remains to be seen. This NIL has leveled the playing field. Players will follow the money.

Your pessimism is boring
Where's the pessimism? I think Pope will be able to turn around the program. I'm just stating a reality. He can turn around the program (which I think he will) while simultaneously be evaluated by BBN. Every coach in our lifetime has faced this type of scrutiny from our fans.

It's his first year dude. My goodness. Golden is in his 3rd year. Oats is in year 6 or 7. Pearl the same. Barnes the same.

You just look always negative. Took Hall 3 years to get going. Pitino took over a complete mess. His first was amazing considering the roster he had. He went 14-14. Started the ascent the next year. Tubby is the only one who did great his first year according to your outlook.

I think he's done pretty well considering this roster was put together quick. He walked into a Grizzly den in the SEC his first year. No other UK coach has ever faced the SEC that Pope is facing.

I see what you did there….used “Golden” and “Investigated” in the same post. 😝

I do agree he’s a rising star in the coaching ranks and has assembled one heck of a team (I’d bracket them to win it all if I was filing out a bracket today). However, even excluding the allegations from earlier this season, he just comes across as kind of a weird creep you can’t really trust. Very punchable face and looks like he should be coaching Dook.

While a heck of a coach (and potentially a good human…don’t know tbh), glad he’s not ours!

I don't think they had a choice with Sampson. It was a different world back then and he was given a 5 year show cause. He was considered unemployable at the college level after that until it expired, and didn't get another college job until 2014.

They should hire beard or the Texas tech coach but they won’t
