Watched it and something really stood out. The analyst was very positive on WL, his arm talent, touch on many throws, etc. The thing I noticed, however, was that many plays that were analyzed (almost all from 2022 I think) had every receiver well beyond 10 yards from the LOS. Seems like Coen/McVay system has layers of receivers so that there's generally a short, medium and long option. I mean the plays looked well-designed but, with our porous OL, it was really telling that Levis, at least on the plays analyzed, had so few options to dump the ball quickly/short and avoid pressure/sacks. From his resume and peer evaluations, Scan is very knowledgeable. How in the world did we end up calling plays with everyone going 10+ yards downfield and putting additional pressure on our OL to protect a longer time for routes to develop? If that's what happened, it either refutes Scan's reputation or speaks to his stubbornness in his play design and play calling.

You are right and Scan finally caught on to that but really late in the season. It starting helping after that but too late for him I'm afraid. That should have been a quick adjustment earlier on but I think they thought they could fix the protection instead of adjusting the play calling etc.

Kiper thinks Stroud will be the second pick and Young around the fifth pick. Levis around seventh to Seattle and Richardson around ninth.

Unless it was a shot play, there were always layers even if it was a RB or te delay. Levis just struggled playing the position despite immense physical ability.

Some team is about to take a huge risk on him, but I guess QB is always a risk. I think he's a good pick because you see him do great things in an NFL offense, just not consistently.

Other key thing I noticed in recent days was stroud jumped over him due to performance in the bowl game. I understand Levis' decision but it absolutely let someone jump him.

Finally you'll see more critical breakdowns in the coming days but they're pretty gentle because of his likability. Polarizing is a term I saw a few times and that's.... unusually kind

I wonder about Tennessee. New GM and without a long term option at QB......picking at #11. With 3 good looking QB prospects (and with Tanny providing a short term answer), I wonder if they'll be in the market to trade up?

Kiper mentioned Paris Johnson from OH ST they could take at 11. Said he was tremendous at LOT for them this year and would start right away. He said Stroud to the Texans and Young to the Colts so don't know how much they need a QB. I like both of those guys and am sure Titans would love to have either one.

I don't see it. I think he's going to be a massive bust. Rooting for the guy but I don't think this guy is close to a franchise QB. He can impress some people with arm strength and combine stuff but decision-making is definitely not the best.

Yes. He had options earlier in the season.

Teams (including our G5 opponents) brilliantly diagnosed his running ability as being limited to the spaces between the guards. Load up those big runs against LSU and Louisville last season. All came with defenses selling out on coverage, and bringing extra pressure, if any. from the outside.

Iowa diagnosed his strengths in the Citrus Bowl, ran some stunts crossing a tackle into the guard space, and brought delayed pressure from the middle of the field. And Levis was sacked 8 times.

Everyone this season mimicked Iowa’s scheme and gave Levis no paths straight forward to escape.

An answer to pressure from the middle is to escape the pocket backwards, surrendering 5 or more yards, then looping back toward the sideline to pass or continue running for a gain down the chosen sideline. I don’t mean to suggest doing this is easy, but you see it dozens of times on a given Saturday if you watch multiple games.

Another option is to trot a back, TE or receiver laterally toward the sideline, and hit him, hoping that the extra pressure in the middle has opened space on the exterior of the defense. At worst, throwing a ball 5 yards over the head of a back prevents an intentional grounding call.

I think Levis successfully threw away a pass and hit his outlet back/receiver both in only one game: U of L.

Along with the 40+ sacks, there might have been 20 more where Levis ran forward to escape, and gained a yard or two, negating the recordation of a sack. IIRC, he hurt his shoulder at Ole Miss on a play going up the middle for a short gain that failed to gain a first down.

It’s pretty damn amazing he only missed one game for the season.
