Love Skal, but damn. We were worried in the exhibitions, Skal has some serious foul troubles. He best listen to Kenny Payne, and learn when to jump on blocks, and stop hooking. We need him on the floor. But, in comparison to our other great bigs, Skal fouls a lot more,
Thoughts?

He'll learn to play defense with his feet. In the past, his athleticism has allowed him to get away with poor defensive positioning because he had the length to recover on high school kids. Now length and athleticism aren't enough. He'll get there, but he's going to have more foul issues along the way.

In his defense, his last two fouls weren't fouls. He literally never touched the guy. These refs are going to have to loosen up on these soft calls. This game was borderline unwatchable.

My thoughts are this is his 3rd college game. He is only going to get better with each game he plays. We just beat Duke with both Marcus and Skal fouling out, no worries on my part. I say relax, watch Skal grow as a player and enjoy him while he is here.

we aren't relying on Skal like we were relying on Noel.

If you didn't notice, we schooled #5 team in the nation with Skal doing jack $hit.

Lee fouling out

Briscoe cramping last 10 minutes of the game.

I agree Skal is going to be fine. The last two fouls were BS calls. I knew we would have problems with the officials tonight. Great win, great day!

Skal will be fine. He simply needs to go straight up, keep his arms straight up, stop reaching and he's good to go. Very common for a young big in college.

2 of the 5 fouls were total BS. A 3rd was very questionable. Only 2 of those were legit. The officiating down low was terrible.

Proof of that was Plumlee having like 6 blocks and only 1-2 fouls. Yeah friggin right. All 3 of our bigs can rest their sack on his head when they jump and yet he was able to block their shot clean time and time again? [roll]

I'm not too worried. It was one game. Two of the fouls were BS. That said, if it becomes more of a trend he needs to play less aggressive D and stay in the game, ala Okafor for Duke last year. We need him on the floor.

We had 21 team fouls. They had 20. Yep, the officials are biased. Oh, wait, the fouls on us were phantom calls while the fouls on dOOk were legit. Also, dOOk committed AT LEAST 20 more obvious fouls that were ignored.

Last two fouls would never be called again!! I pray, it was dook after all. But seriously, the last two were pisss poor

Paranoid Schizophrenia - look in to it and seek treatment. You are seriously bat sh** crazy.

If you say so. Tony Green didn't call those fouls?

Maybe I imagined it. Like you guys imagined that a dorm room full of hookers was innocent fun.

I think Cal will have to let Wynard play this year. There will come a game this year---it was almost this game----where we will need the muscle/size and the fouls. Wynard can certainly provide that whether he is behind or not. Screen, rebound and foul. Simple enough. With that said, Humphries was a pleasant surprise. Great game cats!!!!!!GBB

Skal has a whole lot less basketball under his belt than all these other kids. He'll catch up to the competition on his defense.

No worries here at all. Skal is a great player and also seems very coachable (that will be a huge positive in him turning it around) so I think the staff will get things taken care of and corrected. Tonight also serves as a wake up call for him to make changes so he can actually spend some time on the court instead of being a bench warmer. No need to get overly concerned 3 games into a season and being only the middle of November.

Seriously dude, something is wrong with you. I'm not being funny. Every referee post or other anti-UK conspiracy post brings you out spouting delusional nonsense that would shame the Big Foot believers. You need help.

And a dorm full of hookers is innocent fun. Maybe you should try it sometime. Getting laid may help get you in touch with reality.
Yep,ask Charlie Sheen how fun those skanky Whores are, obviously you are the product of Whore inbreeding

I know some will think we are all paranoid, but i think it's funny on how many of us predicted that Skal wouldn't play many minutes in this game and be in foul trouble from the start. The officals thought we had to have Skal in this game to be able to compete. They didn't know just how talented we are at the guard spots. We have the best set of guards in the entire country.

I think you might be a troll. Don't you have some big win to celebrate?

We'll see how fun you think it is when the hammer comes down.

Pretty entertaining that UL trolls are so upset about our win tonight.

Yes, except that was what happened on his completely bogus 5th foul. The only contact that I saw was the dookie with the arm bar pushing off Skal... but you know how the whistle went. Plus, this was the play right after the UK kid had 2 dookies slapping on him as he drove to the goal. No call, of course.

I watched the game with my Dad, who usually gets tired of me complaining about the calls.... hell, HE EVEN JUMPED UP ABOUT THAT ONE. Especially when he heard Bilas' dumbass comment about keeping the arms away... which is exact-friggen-lutely what Skal did.

Gutsy win by the Cats. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roll on line beard, your ass kicking isn't for another month and a half.

Actually, I was talking about Skal's defense in general and not just his fouls. He's used to just overwhelming the guy he's guarding. Very common with guys of his ability. Now he has to defend with skill and technique. Reaching, leaning into a defender rather than moving his feet, not holding his arms straight up, all these things will improve and improve very fast.

And I agree, that 5th foul was bogus. I don't usually see bias among the refs. Ratface is abusive however and it eventually takes its toll. Officiating the last five minutes was really spotty.

You're right and I'm with you on that, Big Blue Brother. Skal has some work to do... and he'll get there, thankfully.

Nothing against you or your comment, I just had to vent about that 5th foul. ;) Then there's the 4th one, where Plumlee got Skal's hand in an armpit-grip (only thing I can call it) with the refs not letting them just play on... chheeez whizzzzzz!

I'm pretty sure Cal told Skal and Lee: "You're going to foul out. It's vs. Dook, so that much has been determined. Get out there and play hard and foul out with some points and rebounds."

EDIT---- The "armpit-grip" play by Plumlee was for Lee's 4th... still was ridiculous.

Great point. He just needs to make the offense shoot over his length instead of leaving his feet so much. Allow the block to come from weak side when possible and stay out of foul trouble by staying on the ground. Then in the 2nd half, you can get a bit more aggressive because you are not in foul trouble. Plumlee was effective tonight simply by standing his ground and making the player shoot over his extended arms. Skal has to realize that he has help out there. Also saw him go for blocks when he shouldn't have, giving up lots of weak side offensive rebounds. He has a long way to go defensively. But man, sky is the limit. He could be a legit defensive stopper by the end of the season. Good thing for us and Skal, most all his issues are correctable with coaching and will improve.

If you noticed (you probably did), that the amount of contact allowed when we had the ball at the end of the game was considerable (two hands on a driver, bumping, grabbing and hitting of the arms on a shot) while we literally only had to have the audacity to defend against the mighty Duke players as the valiantly tried to score. Labissierre made absolutely no physical contact on one of his fouls. They only showed the replay once and didn't talk about it much because it was so obviously wrong.

He was probably nervous last night too.
He just needs to learn to move his feet and stay on the floor on shot fakes and he will be fine.

Karl towns fouled a lot early last year as well and that changed over the course of the season. Skal will be fine.
