Keep in mind, I am only counting opponents not in the B-12 in this summary. Formerly ranked teams refers to teams ranked at the time the games were played.
- Baylor ranked 21. 0-0 against formerly or currently ranked teams outside the conference
- Oklahoma ranked 19. 0-1 against currently ranked teams (Wisc 16-2), 1-1 against formerly ranked teams. Beating UCLA (11-7), lost to Wash (13-4)
- West Virginia ranked 18. 1-0 against formerly ranked teams. Beat UConn (9-7)
- Texas ranked 17. 1-1 against currently ranked teams. Beating Iowa (13-5), losing to UK (17-0). 1-0 against formerly ranked teams (UConn 9-7)
- Kansas ranked 11. 1-1 against currently ranked teams. Beating Utah (14-3), losing to UK (17-0). 1-0 against formerly ranked teams, beating Mich State (12-6)
- Iowa State ranked 9. 1-0 against currently ranked teams. Beating Iowas (13-5). 1-0 against formerly ranked teams, beating Arkansas (13-4).
So, that is SIX ranked teams with an astounding TOTAL record of 3-3 against currently ranked teams outside their own conference. One team has not played a currently OR formerly ranked team outside the B-12. Two of them haven't played any currently ranked teams. They are 4-1 against formerly ranked teams with wins over UCLA, UConn, Mich State, and Arkansas.
Begging the question, why are so many of them ranked when they are .500 against other ranked teams of other conferences? Plus, they have only six games total, an average of ONE per team. Sorry, but I see little difference between the mighty B-12 and other conferences not named the ACC. I will do the SEC next, which I don't expect to be very impressive either, but we only have one ranked team, so that would be about right.
