Legion of Doom…Assemble

I was closer to being a member of the Tubby Super Friends than the LOD (at least before his last 2 years). With Cal, I'm definitely on the LOD train.

If you weren’t here during the Tubby years you would not understand. Those were this forums version of the Civil War
I've been on the board since 2003 I believe. I've heard the term before as it relates to UK basketball. It just seems childish....especially 20 years later.

I remember starting the cringy LOD thing over 22 years ago. Only one of the originals left still posting is Deplion I think ........ hey Dep it's been a minute. :) Can't believe you all keep bringing it up after all these years. I'm equal parts honored an ashamed lol.

But if there was a time to bring it back it's now..

I'm still around.

Just a lot older, and too depressed about the state of the program recently to post as much. lol

Tell me one player that improved from the start of the season under Cals coaching. Oscar started great and ended great. Grady, wheeler and Ty Ty all got worse. Toppin, Keion and Davion did not improve. Collins and Hokies and Allen all rode the bench and did not improve
I think that’s a little unfair. I want Cal gone as the next guy. I’m joining the LOD but off the top of my head. Cousins, Liggins, Harrelson, Hawkins. That was the old Cal though. I miss that Cal. That Cal died in 2015

Looking at this thread and seeing so many of us "old timers", remembering the door, and how we all were back in the day. Seeing BCG getting literally chased and all of us collectively amazed at the history we were witnessing with Tubby, good and bad, and the Cal era too. Makes me nostalgic.

I feel better about being so entirely negative about Cal and what I was seeing, mostly before most everyone else was there. In writing at length about these things we have all come to see and experience now as his schtick, it seems like everyone came around to how and why I was thinking what I saw, almost was it 7 or 8 years ago when I started railing about Cal ? I cant remember its been so long. I even left the board for a couple years basically. And please, friends, I'm not saying "i told you so" or gloating or anything or saying " I was first" now gimme a cookie .... lol

I just think I was a little ahead of the curve and eventually, in my experience, with people like Cal, you give them enough rope ..... the always hang themselves in the end.

The real shame of it all is that all we wanted was to win. Wanted the vibrant Swaggy Cal that was, but it all ended in 15. Even though none of us could have really foreseen that was the last real swaggy Cal we would ever see.

Still hoping, even praying could be wrong about the man.

But after seeing his coaching blunders, how he doubles down against common wisdom coaching guidelines. Pushes his philosophy and agenda that has NEVER ONE TIME put a title or Kentucky first.

and I'm sorry, I'm still venting. This is cathartic for me because Ive followed UK for almost 50 years. Loved UK like the rest of us thru thick and thinm. Bled blue. Ive paid my dues.

And the very first sign to me that this man might not be the "be all and end all" we thought he might could become, it waS when he said "Greatest day in the history of the program" was that 2010 draft.

I said right then and there I didnt need him to tell me as a UK fan what the greatest moment for me was, and that was a pile of garbage BS he could shove right back up his own ARSE. Pissed me off then and still does, seeing how hes thrown many UK fans under the bus for years.

Hes lost UK a lot of fans too. Much older and longer lived than me too. They had it a longer time ago than all of us. Theyve stayed gone. And they were absolutely true blue.

You start to lose those people, the program begins to die.

See Indiana.

Sad day to see the state of the program now. Still hoping. But knowing this guy is still gonna be here after this year and the next presumably, who knows where this ends.

but it will end.

then we can start to heal once again.

God knows, I'm already trying. Even with him still at the helm, if thats possible.

Welcome back

I wasn’t around here for the Tubby days. I joined right around when Cal came to UK.

It was fun from 09-15. Not so much since. I’ve been complaining about his coaching for longer than most. Makes it worse that I can’t stand his personality either.

Looking forward to the next era of Uk bball.

Lol I'm not exactly a whippersnapper anymore myself. And yes it does suck. Feel the same now as I felt back then.

Well put. I’ve been following since 1959 and Cal can’t leave soon enough for me. His arrogance knows no bounds. This program just isn’t what it used to be. I watch games from the 90’s to keep me focused on how great our program was. It’s all very sad. I truly hope this is his last year.

If I get the progression of this board correct its the old KSR board --- KSR then took over the BBN board --- then it was KSR/CP --- Then just CP --- to finally the current incarnation today. Unsure I got that right tho. Anyhow the OG thread was made on the old KSR if your were there around 02 . I didn't think there were still many posting from the KSR Tubby wars era.

Catsrule was my moniker from circa '98 to, probably, '07? Don't really remember teh history of the boards. I was on a national board first (anybody remember the Worldcrossing site? it was shutdown and a small community of fans, mostly UK, UNC, and dook fans, w/ one really obnoxious UL poster...louisville lawyer, moved to the Goatpen--crow, e'cat, catsrule were a few UK peeps), then to this site (as catspause I believe, but it was so long ago) then to the dynasty defenders site (went by hoopsgod there after being banned here), back here after cal was hired.

I watched the 1998 elite-eight game with Duke last night on Youtube, it was awesome! It was so refreshing to see grown a$$ men going at it! Some of my all-time favorite CAT players on that team also.

we need a thread where we just tell stories from the good ole days of the board. There may not be very many old heads that would remember the weirdness that is early rafters.

90s Pitino was incredible. For Cal to recruit like he does and not have the killer instinct....I just don't get it.
Cal's goals were never aligned with the program from day one. He has always evaluated success with draft picks ....not wins or championships.... make a few players wealthy and piss off the fans. You have to admit he has accomplished both goals and made himself wealthy in the process.

Teague
Reeves
Cauley-Stein
Liggins
PJ Washington

That's five off the top of my head, and I know you said one player but I'm bad at following directions.

I've lurked on this site since 05. Tubby's Super Friends vs LoD was some high entertainment. I always feel like RTS was the leader of Super Friends. I remember a crude stick figure drawing someone posted of him riding a horse and wagon over a cliff. Good times.

I'll always cheer UK and I am unsatisfied with the program. I can do and believe both at the same time. but I'm here with some popcorn for any entertainment on here. So please commence.

I really think that Cal sees himself as a traditional type "teacher" at times, preparing people for life after school.....I had a wonderful algebra and trigonometry teacher. I can say for sure that my life would not be anything the same without her..... but she didn't get paid millions, had to deal with 100's of students a year.... and hardly any of us make millions. I would like for cal to try and be a coach for the University of Kentucky....... or leave, return 80% or so of what he has invested...... and get someone else, or himself to finance a pre pro camp.

How about you return what you didn't earn..... yea lol..... I am dumb, like at least 90% of us....... I think.... I was all ways told, don't think.... KNOW
This ain’t Mister Holland’s Opus…Richard Dryfuss is not walking through that door…

I'm more than ready for a change. Know a lot of fans that are not on here feel the same way.

If you were here for the Tubby years you understand the reference. Never thought I would want to sound the bugle for Cal but it’s time. You can recruit all the best players but if you can’t coach them up then you are no better than Tubby who could flat out coach but couldn’t recruit at an elite level.
This is one of the best posts I've read on RR in a long time. You're absolutely right, Cap'n ... on both sides of the proposition. So glad to send another knowledgeable poster declare that "Tubby could flat out coach." True statement. Of course, the other side of the proposition is why the moniker "CCC" is a perfect fit.
Nevertheless ... Go 'Cats ! Maybe we can win a First Round game in the SEC tournament, and another First-Rounder in the Big Dance.

You are correct about the board change. After Tubby announced he was leaving I became more of a lurker than regular poster. and think I even lost my original poster name. …but I considered my job done :). But as of the last couple of years I have reemerged from Slaughter Swamp to for another reset
