"Leaving the Court Early; Safety or Bad Sportsmanship?"

Looks like 97% thought Cal did the right thing, so do I no-brainer.

I tend to remember Roy Williams took a ton of heat, esp on here, for pulling his team off the floor for the same stated reasons. Now that Cal has done it, of course it isn't an issue with the fans.

Look I get it. Sports are about emotion and sometimes it gets the better of you. I like emotion in sports for the most part bc you should have emotions. From the players to the fans. losing should piss you off if you're a coach, esp to an inferior opponent. I don't blame Cal and I don't blame Roy for being so ticked off they just want to get out of there with the least amount of attention. I don't blame K for not shaking hands with Boeheim. I don't buy the excuse it was for safety but who cares.

Cal doesn't have a reputation of being a sore loser so when it happens once in while and Cal loses his cool, then so be it

it's obviously the right decision... this manufactured controversy of what ifs notwithstanding, we've had plenty of our own bad experiences with fans rushing the court and taunting our players or worse to justify the move.

Haven't we come awfully close to having incidents between our players and opponents fans? We don't need an emotionally charged atmosphere turn into something really ugly, injured fans, injured players, lawsuits etc etc

I did not see the end of the Auburn game, so I have a couple of questions in order to judge the equivalency that you've drawn to when Roy sent players to the locker room early before the end of their game against FSU in 2012.

1) Did Cal leave 5 walk-ons on the court in order to deal with the court storming and send everyone else to the locker room?

2) Did Cal also head to the locker room leaving the 5 walk ons on their own?

If the answer is yes to both, than it's ok to compare them. If not, it's absurd to act like they are the same.

The difference between Cal and Roy was Cal stayed on the sideline until the final horn and shook Pearl's hand, Roy left his bench players alone.

Cal was concerned about the safety of his players, Roy, not so much, just PO'd. Not a good comparison.

K is the most gracious winner there is, he is also the sorest loser.

I agree but I just don't think that's the reason Cal pulled the players off the floor. Just like Roy Williams when he pulled his guys off. Like I said, I don't care that it happens but I just want to see double standard excuses.

did Cal pull the whole team or just his starters?
I'll be honest - I turned the game off with about 30- seconds to go, so I didn't see it

He didn't do it like Williams did but I don't think the players left the court early bc of safety. That my overall point.

I've never known Cal to do something like that. We've lost other games - didn't do it at LSU.
Wonder what the reasoning was if not the safety of his players

Yes he did do it for the safety of his players. Cal stayed out on the court until the final horn and shook hands with Pearl.

Roy left the court in a huff, leaving his bench players to fend for themselves.

Totally different.

Think he just lost his cool. Cal hates to lose to Pearl. It happens and I'm totally fine with it. That happens in sports.

Cal stayed and shook Pearls hand. The last 2 times weven had court storming a they haven't been pretty. IU was IU and then at SC you had the whole issue where Aaron almost got into it with a fan pictures above. I also believe it was at SC where there were the rumors of Cousins punching a fan which were false. Cal has learned that combining cocky, arrogant, drunk fans with emotionally drained players isn't a good combination.

That was Arkansas I thought.

Sending the team off the floor is unnecessarily dramatic.

Seriously??? Okay, let me explain a few things. First, Roy and the players went to the locker room and left the scrubs to fend for themselves. Cal sent the bench to the locker room. Ulis apparently misunderstood and went too. Poy was still on the court at the final buzzer along with Mulder, Floreal, and David.

We had 4 players left on the court for the final 1.2 seconds and Cal stayed to shake hands and get the other 4 players back to safety. Now, let me explain what the difference was: Roy ran. Cal stayed. Also, the UK bench was far away from the locker room entrance and this was a good move by Cal. As I recall, UNC's bench was located next to the locker room entrance. All they had to do was exit. UK would have had to manuever thru a crowd of court stormers.

He did it, then for the safety of SOME of his players. The 5 left on the floor are apparently not worth much.

When is the last time, and how many times total, has a player been injured due to court rushers?

Read my post for a complete explanation. Then, go to this link and watch it for yourself.

Safety I'm sure, they hadn't beaten us in like nineteen years I think so you know they were gonna rush the court, do you think if we ever beat Florida at commonwealth our fans wouldn't storm the field [winking]

you're literally taking nothing, and making it into something. just ridiculous really. cal knew the fans were storming the court. they were all told not to, it was talked about on live television that they were all told not to, and the fans still did it. cal got the kids he could out of there. should he leave them all out there so that you can feel better as a fan while 12 teenagers sit on court and get trampled? i mean, that's what it's going to take for people to shut up about it.

So much going on here.

Coach O looks a little worried, but the two old white ladies seem to have everything under control.

Jumpmans cousin, standing on the bench, seems to realize his cuz is getting ready to do something stupid, again, and is thinking, "oh man, I was just wanting to celebrate."

Never nervous Kenny Payne is assessing the situation from afar, using telepathy to tell Aaron not to clinch his fists or raise them, and it is working.

Rod Strickland as always is too cool (may be high) and is wondering why butch is pinching Aaron's nipple.

Lastly Dana Carvey is looking at jumpman from behind Aaron and thinking "not gonna do it."

It really does look like the precipice of chaos. One lady looks like she's yelling something personal at Antigua (like "your momma so fat" . . . ) :boxing:

Does our team ever leave the court, without congratulating the other team, except when the opposing fans are poised to rush the court? The answer is no, and it is proof that it is for safety of the team, plain and simple.

So true! Not only did he not shake Boeheim's hand he then proceeded to take time to bitch out the ACC Senior Associate Commissioner. And comparing Cal to Huckleberry Hound is ridiculous. Cal has never had an opposing fan thrown out of a game.

I say you take the football team with you and circle the players with them. Any contact results in some damaging contact back at them. :boxing::boxing::boxing::chairshot:

He didn't do it for safety? Why did he do it then? Let's all hear your hypothesis.

I said it earlier in this thread but I'll say it again. I think he was mad and lost his cool and just sent some of the guys off. He hates to lose to Pearl and I think he had a moment.
