Lamont Butler

Another Senior. I get that we need to build a team, but we might end up half full with a roster that is "1 and done" but this time due to eligibility. Oh well, is what it is until they can focus on the '25 and '26 recruiting cycles.

Pros:
-He is a body on the team
-He was the 2nd leading scorer in the NCAA championship game against UCONN (2023)
-Led SDSU in assists 2023, 2nd in 2024
-Has been in 11 NCAA Tournament games, with 7 wins
-He's not a freshman
-If he's coming off the bench, this is not a bad pick up

Cons:
-Not an ideal second piece for a hopeful fanbase
-Terrible piece if he's going to be a starter

Accolades:
NCAA All-Tourney (2023)
NCAA All-Region (2023)
2022-23 All-MWC
3x MCW All-Defense
2023-24 MWC DPOY

You want a non shooter and guy who can't hit a free throw as a starter?
If they can find a clear cut better option they yeah go do it, but butler isn’t a bad player. Everybody was upset about not getting players, pope went and got a player duke and other schools wanted

Clamps Butler, think of an Ashton Hagans type player, except he has final four experience and he’s not a big ego guy.

Also a 5th year senior.

Seriously, guys - there are worse things than starting with two conference DPOYs.

And nobody here had even mentioned the kid - rendering all the "we're running out of names" talk totally useless. Good thing Pope isn't relying on the anonymous internet UK gossip for potential recruit names.
