Lamar Wilkerson

Nobody is asking the important question. How does IU NIL stack up against UK NIL + Clark's Pump n Shop Dollars?
Well, I don't think that question is framed correctly for the present circumstances. I would be willing to bet that Kentucky has a larger NIL pool, especially given Indiana's situation right now with a new coach and being down for a while. But Kentucky has spent most of its money and has a loaded roster, whereas Indiana hasn't really spent anything. So the real question is whether Kentucky has enough NIL left to match a crazy Indiana offer given that Indiana may technically have more money "left." Of course, that could screw Indiana later. Also, there are optics to this too, in terms of not giving certain players on your team way more than others, so I am sure Pope is trying to walk that line.

How they gonna pay the rest of their team?? Gonna fill with Walk ons?

They already paid Tucker and Reed Bailey too…doubt they was cheap.
Plus they have a lot of spots to fill, they have plenty of money no doubt but there aren’t enough impact guys left to make them a Big 10 contender in my honest opinion. They probably will go all out for a starting 5 but they need a bench too. They need at least 8 more players at this point.

Exactly

It’s not like there’s a salary cap and IU will end up putting together a formidable team with Wilkerson. They won’t be competing for a title but Wilkerson would be the star on that team. At uk he will be the 3rd or 4th best player on the roster. I can see it either way, same with the money. 1 million when the guy has made didly squat before is a ton of money. It pays the taxes on what’s left after he pays his agent. Idk how pressed for cash his family is but that’s not chump change
They have to allocate the funds wisely…just can’t write blank checks

Think about the optics of this.

IU got the first visit. He left.
UK got the second visit. He stayed much longer.
He canceled his other visits.
Yesterday ended with UK being in the lead.

Now, it's closing the deal.

Of course it makes sense that Indiana offers the most money. They are in a much more dire situation. They have 4 players on their roster. Their team projects to suck. They can offer Wilkerson 20+ shots a game and 30+ minutes. He STILL kept UK in the fold, despite UK having a stacked roster.

Read between the lines.

He likes the UK situation better. For likely, many reasons, including Pope, location, etc, who knows what else.

Thus, it makes sense for Indiana to make it a "money or everything else" scenario because other than money, they have nothing else to offer.
Careful there KA…..you’re trying to interject logic here. We can’t even have a whiff of that running amuck through this thread😉

If this guy doesn't commit to UK, it would move close to the top of the list for recruits/transfers that we thought we had in the bag that committed elsewhere.
I hear ya. We missed out on alot of players in the 10’s. Wiggins to poindexter to Quincy miller etc etc etc, but all we can do is try and hammer it home.

All signs seem to point to him committing to us though, and we can’t help but believe he’s coming here. First he stays well past the visit itself, that seems odd if he’s not going to atleast focus on us. Second, he canceled his trip to Auburn. You don’t do that if something hasn’t fundamentally shifted. Third, he’s following uk players and pages on Twitter now. And fourth, we’ve at least come close to the money IU is offering or he would not still be in Kentucky. Something has shifted and the momentum is with us.

Well I know DeVries had a zoom call with notable ex players etc from IU. Said visits will ramp up. Had 6 visits already lined up with Wilkerson starting Friday. One thing that came out of that zoom was money won’t be a problem. IU has big donors but it’s the depth of donors that’s important here. IU will be allocating 6 million from the media profit share for men’s basketball. They already had 7 million in NIL before DeVries was hired. That lines up with the 12 million floating around. Not sure what UK has.

Isn’t Mark Cuban a huge IU donor?

Well the profit share is not signed yet, so they will not be using any of that.

WTF are you talking about? I clearly said nobody knows and what the rumors are. Get help for your anger issues weirdo
My initial questions about how much us and Indiana were offering was in response to you spouting rumors as fact. Only when I asked how much did you say nobody knows.
I'm not angry, but you are a Dukey.

I feel pretty good. I usually am not that confident, but it feels like the tea leaves are reading UK right now pretty solidly.
In today's recruiting world I am not confident until a player commits/signs. I agree it
appears we are in a good position but if we don't get a commitment by the weekend
confidence will take a hit. The more this drags out the less likely it becomes.

Three of our transfers seemed to come out of thin air and with a quick trigger(JQ, the Ala kid and
the Euro kid) This one is already different in both ways.

They also have to field a team …no way they are offering him 3 mill plus paying Tucker and Bailey. They prolly got 1.5-2 mill a piece …IU pockets aren’t that deep imo
Who says they are paying Tucker much, if even at all? They paid his dad, which comes out of a different budget. They could have just added Tucker’s salary in with his dad’s and then dad gives it to Tucker. He shouldn’t cost them anything out of their NIL budget, if they were smart about it.

NIL shouldn’t ever be an issue with Kentucky nor Indiana basketball, considering the fanbases and conferences. Probably both Top 5-10.

In his/my defense we both said “Rumors”. I don’t know if it’s a compression problem or what.

LOL, you can't be serious. This is not like a dad giving his 15 year old an allowance. Contracts and what not. If he plays for free, I kinda think that would maybe draw a few red flags, or even a highly discounted rate would. Come on man .

IU may not be relevant or good but they have a top 2 alumni base(depending on year) with lots of billionaires. My family(sibling married up) is one of them. IU has a bad credit score. They are going to have to buy points to get guys. Just the way it is.

Talent wasn’t the problem. Roster construction and a bad coach was. Two top 15 portal guards and the #1 big isn’t talent?
Agreed, people seem to forget we hung around T5-T10 for a good chunk of the season up until the injury bus rolled into town. Praying for a healthy season next year because we’ve seen what pope can do when he has a full lineup.
