It wouldnt of been funny if Odom had just shot himself or just over dosed.... no he had to go and make it so over the top that you would think its a comedy skit.

TLDR: Crack all weekend, every drug imaginable in his system, severe overdose leading to at least partial brain damage, still alive on a ventilator after this period which is a good sign.

Sad situation, but he's a grown adult with access to the whole world, and this is where he chose to go with it.

Addicts usually have an underlying reason for their addictions. For that I sympathize with Lamar Odom - he's a very sad individual looking for escape.

But the ones I really feel for are his kids; I can't imagine what this is doing to them. So I agree, this is nothing to joke about in any case.

People laugh and made tons of jokes about the Simpson case. Nicole's head became everyone's favorite joke in the 90's. 2 kids lost their mother to decapitation and a segment of the population loved the acquittal because he was black. This is the sickest thing I've seen in my lifetime and no one cares.

Lots of posters use serial killers as a joke for their avatar. Do you know how many families still cry over their loved ones being raped, murdered, and cut into pieces? But we all LOVE THE BUNDY AVATARS!!!

As STwildcat said, Charlie Sheen has been THE joke of the country or 5 years now. Not an issue with most even though he's got the worst drug and alcohol addiction issues in the country it seems.

Odom tried to kill himself by hooker orgy and Viagra, and all of a sudden these topics are off limits.

I work with drug addicts and suicide victims in Memphis and actually have dedicated a huge part of my life to helping these issues. I've also been a drug addict and it took my 4th rehab stint to get my life in order, go back to school, and right the ship. I know all too well how this works, and no one really cared except family.

I'm not going to express the faux outrage that some will over these topics because it's just words. Words mean shit when it comes to these things. Some people feel good about themselves just expressing how "sorry" they feel for someone. It's nothing but sympathy and it helps none. You want to empathize and actually matter? Go help, because seriously your words are crap and aren't helping at all.

Odom has great opportunities that most never have to beat this thing. It's up to him, but the way he did this is going to bring ridicule. It's just how it is. If you don't like that, prepare, because you got a long road to battle in this life.

Hey I hear that. I didn't mean to make it sound like concerned people are not helping at all. Sure they do.

But we have way too many ideologues and way too many people having "discussions" in this country and not enough people actually doing. Everything is a GD debate today.

It takes very little effort to give 1 hour a week to a homeless shelter, a rehab facility, or a juvenile home. But very very few would dare do it, however they will say an awful lot.

This isn't directed anywhere near you Aike it's just an observation about this sort of thing.
